Features

Overview: The XM Snap (XSN1V1) is a plug & play, in-vehicle, XM Satellite Radio tuner. The XM Snap offers simple controls and easy installation. The XM Snap features an integrated 12-volt cigarette lighter adapter and PowerConnect FM transmitter on a flexible stalk for plug & play connection and quick mounting of the device in your vehicle. A magnetic XM Satellite Radio antenna and stereo mini-jack cable are also included.

Note: XM subscription required. (The Snap is built on the XM platform, which offers different channels than Sirius; it cannot be added to an existing Sirius subscription.)

XM Satellite Radio: XM Satellite Radio offers a great variety of programming such as commercial free music of almost any genre (Pop, Rock, Dance, Hip-Hop, R&B, Country, Christian, Jazz, Blues, Classical, Latin), sports (MLB, NHL, college games, PGA tour), talk radio (NPR), comedy (Laugh Attack, The Foxxhole), news (CNN, CSPAN, CNBC, BBC), and entertainment (Oprah, Cosmo). XM Radio provides superior digital sound quality coast-to-coast. XM also offers instant traffic and weather alerts for 21 major US cities.

12-Volt Adapter: The XM Snap features an integrated 12-volt cigarette lighter adapter to supply power to the device. The 12-volt cigarette lighter adapter simply plugs into the cigarette lighter or 12-volt accessory port of your vehicle. The 12-volt cigarette lighter adapter also includes all the unit's audio connections, including a built-in FM transmitter, Auxiliary output, and FM output. These three connection options allow you to listen to XM Satellite Radio through your vehicle's audio system.

  • FM Transmitter: The XM Snap's integrated 12-volt cigarette lighter adapter features a built-in PowerConnect FM transmitter which allows the XM Snap to wirelessly transmit audio to your vehicle's in-dash headunit over an FM frequency. You can choose from any FM frequency between: 88.1 and 107.9 MHz. You can store up to 5 FM stations so you can quickly access the stations which give you the best audio reception when using the PowerConnect.
  • Auxiliary: The integrated 12-volt cigarette lighter adapter also has a minijack audio output (3.5mm) to connect the unit directly to your in-dash headunit's auxiliary input (if applicable), using the supplied 50" stereo minijack cable. When using the line output jack, you can adjust the level to match your headunit's other sources.
  • FM Direct (optional): The FM Direct Adaptor ( 607FMDA25, sold separately) connects directly in-line with your vehicle's existing AM/FM antenna input (motorola) and the 12-volt cigarette lighter adapter's FM output (2.5mm). This optimizes the XM receiver's built-in FM modulator to your vehicle's radio, especially in regions with a high density of FM radio stations and few open FM channels.

Flexible Stalk: The integrated 12-volt cigarette lighter adapter is attached to the XM Snap via a flexible stalk. This flexible stalk (with swivel) allows for convenient placement of the XM Snap in your vehicle so you can access the unit's controls and view its display. The flexible stalk offers the following adjustments.

  • Swivel the XM Snap left or right 90-degress in either direction.
  • Twist the flexible stalk left or right, 90-degress, in either direction to rotate the XM Snap.
  • Bend the flexible stalk in any direction.

Magnetic Antenna: The unit comes supplied with a magnetic antenna that is designed to be run outside of the vehicle and placed on the roof of your vehicle. The magnetic antenna will adhere to your vehicle's sheet metal. The antenna cable measures 11.5'.

2-Line Display: The XM Snap features a high-contrast 2-line LCD screen with a black background and white text. The LCD screen lets you view artist name, song or program title, and channel information. When listening to a channel, information about that channel and what is currently playing is displayed. The screen will alternate between displaying the artist name and song/program title; and displaying the category, channel name and channel number.

Simple Controls: The XM Snap offers simple to use controls:

  • Power Button: Press to turn the unit On or Off.
  • Menu Button: Press to access Radio ID and adjust audio level.
  • FM Button: Press to change to FM mode for configuring FM channels.
  • 1-5 Buttons: Press to tune to a stored favorite channel or press and hold to store a favorite channels. In FM mode, press to select a stored FM transmitter preset or press and hold to store and FM transmitter preset.
  • 3-Way Rotary Knob: The 3-way rotary knob lets you tune to the previous or next channel with the current category or tune the FM transmitter channel in FM mode. By pressing the 3-way rotary knob you can stop or start scanning through channels within the current category.
  • Arrow Buttons: Press to access the previous or next category; or press and hold to cycle through the XM's categories.

Channel Scan: You can scan a category and listen to each channel in the category for 10 seconds before the next channel is automatically tuned.

Favorite Presets: You can save and enjoy fast access to up to 5 of your favorite XM Satellite Radio channels.

Auto Shut Off: The XM Snap will automatically shut off after 6 hours of inactivity, when no buttons have been pressed or the rotary knob has not been turned. This features prevents the vehicle battery from being discharged if you forget to turn the XM Snap off.

My second

Written By XM Fan, Washington DC on Saturday, February 09, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Have had a Snap for years and this is another one for my other car. (Got tired of wife taking it) Excellent reception, great sound thru AUX. Adding service to my existing XM account was a "Snap." Small and easy to install. Easy to use. Stores 4 stations more than I usually need. Thinking of getting a AC/DC converter (from Crutchfield, of course) to use it in the house.

Pros: Great price, easy to use. Small and out of the way when in the car.

Cons: None

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Simple and very easy to install. However I had a very deficult time signing uo my subscription with Sirius. I already had a Sirius account with another car, when I tried to add this radio to my account I had to open a new accunt with XM, this is not a Sirus radio you can attach to your account. I talked to 3 agents representing Sirius before I could be connected. It seemed like I was the first person ever to have a XM Snap and a factory installed Sirius subscription.

Pros: Easy to install and very cool accesorie for my car.

Cons: Sirius needs better guidlines for connecting your subscription.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Pretty neat little radio. I needed a radio that would be completely portable since I drive a slip seat truck (changes everyday) in the Texas oilfield. Often I do not even have cellular service. After not renewing my XM for over a year due to their horrible customer service I deiced to replace my old Pioneer XMP3 that broke. I like that this radio is portable and changing the channels is very easy compared to my XMP3. I get to try it out today in the truck via the FM transmitter it worked decent in my car( I use to aux jack in my car) So yes I signed the deal with the devil again but it will definitely keep my sanity at work and I really like product and the price I got with Crutchfield. I think its a better buy than that one unit that offers wi-fi and bluetooth but no antenna (separate purchase).

Pros: Ease of use, portability, display (I dont get the complaints)

Cons: Wish it had a way to store more presets

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nice and small, but display stays on the XM radio's site way too long instead of switching to the artist and song titel. Also, my dogs accidentally changed the station about 5 times when in the car the other day. Other than that, it is a great little radio and I really like it. Well worth the money.

Pros: great price and size

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It's inexpensive in a world of $150 plus devices. It is easy to set up, has a bit of background hiss, but works well enough to enjoy the music. I lazily put my antennae inside on the dash pushed up against the base of the windshield. This works fine and I use 92.9 as my Sirius/XM station. I would buy another.

Works well

Works great, I put the antenna inside the car And it seems to work well. My wife loves the service. Simple aftermarket xm solution. So far am very Satisfied. I use the auxiliary jack it works fine , have not tried radio option. Crutchfield is wonderful for quick service.

Pros: Xm on the cheap

Cons: Satellite radio requires monthly service fees. No Dimmer on the blue light for nighttime use.

XM Snap review

Written By Homey, Central Pa. on Tuesday, September 25, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a good choice for an inexpensive portable solution for mobile XM service. I purchased this to use in our motorhome. Unfortunately, our 05' RV does not have an aux. input jack on the dash radio, so I used the FM frequency set up with the XM Snap. The sound quality using the FM frequency set up resulted in mediocre sound quality. Since the dash radio has a cassette player, I purchased a Crutchfield cassette adapter for the XM Snap and the resulting sound quality was greatly improved. I was considering swapping out the dash radio for a new XM ready unit, however the existing RV radio has nice features (weather band, CD, remote control, etc) that I'm happy with. The XM Snap with the cassette adapter produces decent sound and is a viable, inexpensive solution for this application. Overall - thumbs up!

Pros: cost; portability; sound quality with an aux.input cable or cassette adapter

Cons: sound utilizing the FM frequency arrangment; the XM Snap is a little bulky looking hanging from a 12v. dash outlet making it not as "clean" as an in dash radio.

Good value

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got this XM radio for my 98 Lexus. Since I did not want to replace the radio I found this to be a good alternative. While the reception is sometimes poor due to FM radio reception, when the station has no interference it sounds good and is definetly an improvement over listening to commercial radio.

Pros: Easy set up and portability between vehicles.

Cons: Poor FM reception, ocassionally, can make listening impossible.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am extremely happy with the XM Snap that I purchased from Crutchfield. As always service was excellent as was customer support when I called to changed my order. I was going to go with the XM Kenwood plug in but decided to go with the Snap due to it's portability and I am glad I did. It is nice to have satellite radio that I can use in multiple vehicles. I would definitely recommend the Snap to friends and family.

Pros: Portable. Easy to use. Well lit screen.

Cons: None so far.

A nice little unit, with some issues

Written By Mazda3Driver, Delaware on Thursday, July 12, 2012

As a former 'terrestrial' Stern listener, I was one of the fans who'd had enough of his moneygrabbing tactics and swore I wouldn't switch to satellite & pay for radio. My wife got a trial subscription with her new car, got hooked, and secretly picked up a Snap player for me. I love the choices, so now I'm hooked too. This player could be better though. Overall, I'd say if you want satellite without paying alot or having a difficult install, go ahead and get this unit.

Pros: Plug it in the 12v socket, plug in an antenna, press a couple buttons, & you're listening to satellite radio. For an inexpensive unit, the interface is pretty good and the controls are as well. I didn't have the problem with the presets changing, and if you set them 20 or so channels apart it makes it easier to scroll to many stations quickly by hitting a preset then scrolling a short distance. Even though I haven't used it, the FM station feature could be a good option.

Cons: I have a significant alternator whine. It was reduced by turning the Snap output all the way up and turning the car radio down a bit. I have a noise filter I'm going to try, hopefully that will eliminate the noise. Also, the sound quality isn't what I expected. It seems like the high end is getting clipped regularly, and not due to signal drop. Kinda like an old cassette that's starting to go bad, or a cd that's trying to skip. That may just be satellite in general though, I don't know.

Just a Snap?

Written By S, Wyoming on Saturday, June 23, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The "snap" was just that to install and activate. The longest part of this process, was waiting for the XM operator to collect the information. After programing and trying to listen to music with the exterior antenna intalled, I found an excessive amount of static and interference. No matter what "un assigned" FM frequency I used I could not get a clean signal. Tried with the 3.5 mini plug and tried with FM modulator same results. Crutchfield was great to work with again.

Pros: Ease of installation, low cost, moveable to other vehicles without any effort, clean appearance, minimal buttons.

Cons: as stated in review.

Very useful

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I use the Snap at work, where I am always driving different trucks. It`s perfect because it`s so easy to just plug in and throw the antenna up on the roof, that`s it. No extra power cord, and I like the option of running it through the auxiliary input, or the FM if the receiver I`m using has no Aux input. It`s not fancy, but that`s okay since it`s easy to scroll to each category, and with 5 presets I can quickly and easily get to any channel. The fact that the display doesn`t show the whole song title doesn`t bother me. No big deal. I think my only minor complaint is when driving at night, the blue color in the display is kind of bright, but you can easily make a little cover or just put a hat over it.

Pros: Very convenient for switching vehicles, easy to use, good value,

Cons: Blue display a little bright at night.

XM Snap awesome for small sports car

Written By Donald, Alabama on Saturday, February 04, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Mercedes 320SLK don't leave to much room for gadgets since it is a small sports car with not much interior room. Same as a corvette and similar sports cars. Thus this proved to be th best investment for installing an xm radio. Plugs right into cigarette lighter, find empty FM channel and set radio and xm snap to same frequency and your done. Small magnet antenna easily attaches to car in any place you desire. My slk a hardtop convertible so installing antenna took all of 3 minutes. Get 5 days free trial service with radio and if you've never had xm/sirius service you will be hooked within hours. Excellent buy for the money for all vehicles but exceptional for sports cars.

Pros: Easy Install, easy to set up, small yet gets every channel available on xm/sirius

Cons: can only save 5 channels in favorite. But one press of menu button makes it easy to find any kind of music/talk/sports you desire

Simple to install, quick setup, less than 15 minutes to get going 100%. Crutchfield made it simple

Pros: Sleek, easy to use, Small

Cons: siriux-xm took longer to get on the 800 number than to setup in vehcile

Easy to use!

Written By Dennis, Jacksonville, FL on Tuesday, December 27, 2011

I love this XM radio for the simple reason you eliminate the power cord so there is one less wire to deal with. I plugged mine into my Pioneer's aux input and it sounds great with plenty of volume, so I don't know what problems the other person had with that. For someone who wants a satelite radio with no frills, this is it.

Pros: Easy to install, easy to use and the price was right!

Cons: Titles don't scroll!

Simple, inexpensive, but not without shortcomings

Written By Jim, Nashua, NH on Thursday, September 29, 2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've been using this receiver for a few months now, and I think I've gotten a good feel for its strengths and weaknesses.

What I love about it: It's very inexpensive. It's very portable - I bought an extra antenna for our second car and move it between our two cars regularly. It has a very simple, elegant interface. You don't need to find a place to mount it in your car

What drives me nuts about it:

It only has five presets.

The titles don't scroll. If you're listening to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, you see "Wolfgang Ama", truncated down to 12 characters. (Really, XM?) It's time to play, "Can you guess this song?"

It's not at eye level. One of its greatest strengths is that it plugs into a 12V socket. One of its greatest weaknesses is that it plugs into a 12V socket.

It's slightly "floppy." If you're scrolling through channels and you hit a bump, you'll inadvertently skip through a few stations because the floppy stalk causes the unit to move a little. A remote would remedy this.

There's no easily discernible logic that determines which station gets remembered in each category. If you power off and back on, the categories seem to randomly "remember" odd channels. The firmware does not seem well thought out.

Minor complaint: You can't turn off the FM transmitter. If other cars have their radios on, they might pick up what you're listening to. Most people wouldn't care, but it's worth mentioning.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

So many XM receiver options were available, but I was buying one for my 65- year old parents' RV. I needed something SIMPLE - the fewer buttons, the better. This was a snap to install, and worked perfectly immediately. No bells or whistles like pausing, rewinding, or recording, but these are features that my folks would never use and never understand how to control. I'm a big fan of the XM Snap, and would recommend it to anyone. Plus, with such an incredible low price ($50 - $30 rebate = $20), I won't fret too much if it breaks. Not that I expect it to break. Oh, and I love the support stem from the DC outlet. No need for my parents to clutter their dashboard with mounting trays. KISS - Keep It Simple, Stu*id!

Written By TonyG, RDU, NC on Thursday, February 24, 2011

The snap is a simple and elegant solution for those who need or desire a
non-integrated XM solution. It reduced the number of wires we had running around
the car and has an easy to understand interface. The sound volume is a bit low
even on it's highest setting. Although this is an ultra low-price unit, we would
love if it had the pause and rewind functions of our previous player. I
recommend this unit to anyone who wants to get into XM with a low priced, high
quality unit.
