Features
Radar/Laser Detection: The Whistler XTR-555 detects the
following bands of radar and laser:
- X Band (10.500-10.550 GHz)
- K Band (24.050-24.250 GHz)
- Ka Superwideband (33.400-36.000 GHz)
- Laser (905 nanometers ±50 nm)
- Safety Warning System (SWS)
Front/Rear Laser Detection: The unit is equipped with a
high-gain optical lens on the front panel for increased sensitivity and field of
view for leading-edge laser detection. On the rear is an integrated optical
waveguide for superior detection of laser signals transmitted from behind.
POP Mode: POP Mode is featured on some newer radar guns
operating on K and Ka bands. When the gun is in POP mode and activated, a brief
burst of energy (less than 1/15th of a second) is transmitted, and the vehicle's
speed is quickly acquired. This unit has a patented POP Mode protection, and
will display an alert as it would a regular radar alert.
Pulse Alerts:
Pulse (or Instant-On radar) is more difficult to detect than conventional radar
because if remains off until activated to measure the speed of a targeted
vehicle. When Pulse transmissions are detected, the unit will sound an urgent
3-second audio warning and display "PULSE".
Safety Warning System Alert:
The Whistler XTR-555 will give you advanced alert of the presence and/or approach
of emergency vehicles, trains, and road hazards from systems equipped with
Safety Alert Traffic Warning System transmitters.
Stay Alert Feature: The Stay Alert Feature is designed to test a
driver's alertness. When engaged, the unit will sound two beeps every 30-60
seconds, and the driver must press specific buttons within 3-5 seconds to show
alertness. If the driver fails to respond properly, an alarm sounds and the
display shows "Get Rest".
Display: The XTR-555 has an 8-character, red dot-matrix text
display which provides distinct visual confirmation of signals detected, signal
strength, and indicates engaged modes of operation. Using the Dark button, you
can reduce the brightness of the display to the Dim Mode or Dark Mode levels.
Visual Alerts: In addition to the digital display, the
unit's Low Profile Alert Periscopes provide an added attention-getting visual
alert. The two extra LEDs flash on and off when the unit alarms to provide a
unique visual alert. You can set the unit to flash for all alarms, remain on or
remain off.
Integrated Real Voice: The built-in Real Voice is used to announce
band identification, safety warning system messages, and feature selections. The
Real Voice can be turned off, if desired.
Audio Alerts:
The unit will also sound alerts and confirm user settings with an audible tone alert. A distinctly different tone is used for
each type of signal detected, and with radar bands, the tones will repeat faster
as you approach the signal source.
Quiet/Auto Quiet Modes: Quiet Mode cancels audio during an alert and
any new alert within 20 seconds. After 20 seconds of no radar signal detected,
the audio alerts are restored. The Auto Quiet mode reduces the selected audio
level to Level 1 approximately 5 seconds after a radar or safety radar signal is
detected.
Self Test: When the unit is first powered on,
the detector goes through a series of self tests to confirm that the speaker and
visual displays are functional.
City/Highway Modes: Whistler's Three Stage City mode is designed to
reduce the annoyance of automatic door openers, intrusion alarms, and other
devices that share frequencies with police radar (generally X-band). You can set
the unit to any of two City modes and a Highway mode. In City Mode 1 only the X band
is reported at high levels, City Mode 2 operates with no X-band detection,
and the Highway mode is the normal mode with full radar and laser detection.
VG-2 Mode: VG-2 and Spectre are two types of radar detector detection
(RDD) devices. The XTR-555 has protection against VG-2, but not against Spectre.
When a VG-2 signal is detected, a VG-2 alert is sounded and the display flashes
"VG-2". After 3 seconds, the audio is canceled and the display no longer
flashes. During the period a VG-2 signal is detected, a radar signal cannot be
detected--the detector "hides" its own radiated signal and becomes undetectable
by the the VG-2. Every 30 seconds, the detector checks for a VG-2 signal, and
continues to hide until no signal is detected. During a VG-2 alert, X K, and Ka
band signals cannot be received, but laser detection is not affected.
Vehicle Battery Saver Mode: The Vehicle Battery Saver mode
automatically shuts off the detector after 3 hours. The timer is reset if the
detector is turned off, unplugged, or any button is pressed before the timer has
expired. If the unit has automatically turned off, it can be turned back on
immediately with the press of any button.
Mounting: You
will get optimum performance from the detector if you mount it at a point
approximately in the center of the vehicle, as low as possible on the front
windshield without obstructing the view of the road to the front or rear. The
detector can be mounted using the supplied windshield suction cup mount.
