MTX Amplified ThunderForms

Overview

Our take on the MTX Amplified ThunderForms

Crinkled french fries, discarded receipts, old gum wrappers — you probably have everything in the hidden corners of your vehicle except great bass. ThunderForm enclosures fill the nooks and crannies of your vehicle with low tones that stand out, but their factory look blends right in.

Crinkled french fries, discarded receipts, old gum wrappers — you probably have everything in the hidden corners of your vehicle except great bass. ThunderForm enclosures fill the nooks and crannies of your vehicle with low tones that stand out, but their factory look blends right in.

MTX engineers evaluate the "sonic signatures" of top-selling vehicles so they can design ThunderForms as custom acoustic matches. Each ThunderForm fits and blends inconspicuously into your vehicle, so you get great bass without losing any space. They're made of high-density polyethylene resin to curb resonances — they deliver bass that's tight, hard-hitting, and way down low. The airtight enclosure provides the correct internal volume to yield optimum bass response.

Built-in 200-watt amp and 10" sub
This amplified ThunderForm comes equipped with a cool-running 200-watt amp that's custom designed to provide optimal power to its 10" FPR subwoofer without straining your vehicle's electrical system. MTX's Electronic Bass Control (EBC) lets you adjust the bass level from the driver's seat. A variety of inputs allow easy integration into your vehicle's sound system, and the included 20' power harness simplifies supplying power to the amp.

Made for your vehicle
This enclosure installs behind the factory panel under the driver side rear window in the cargo area of your 2001-06 Chevrolet Tahoe or 2001-02 GMC Yukon. Stock look at a hefty premium

2002 Chevrolet Tahoe
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This powered MTX Thunderform sub sounds great and is without a doubt a significant sonic upgrade from the stock sub. But better bass can be achieved for the same or less cost if you're willing to give up some cargo space for a non-stock fit. I actually use my Tahoe for moving large cargo and didn't want to deal with the pitfalls of standard enclosures and didn't want to lose the ability to lay my rear seats flat by installing amps under the rear seats. Stock fit/placement was my highest priority in significantly improving my sound system, which I achieved with this powered enclosure, but it came at a premium cost. For me, it was absolutely worth the expense! And I don't want to downplay the sound/performance...this sub sounds great! Final note: If you want the best performance possible with stock sub placement, get the enclosure with upgraded sub and external amp. It'll cost more $$, but it'll sound even better!

Pros: Great performance/sound for a stock fit replacement. Worth the expense if stock placement is your priority.

Cons: Expensive! Not the best performance/sound for the money, but please read my entire review for my caveats.

Cannot believe how great this sub sounds!

2002 GMC Yukon
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking for a relatively simple way to get some bass in my 02 Yukon and this fits the bill perfectly! All of my speakers were completely shot so I replaced the deck, speakers and sub and couldn't be happier with my purchase. I wasn't expecting too much from this as I wanted to install it quickly (i.e. not running RCA's and turn on lead to the deck in addition to having to run a power wire up to the battery) and wasn't sure how it would sound with just the stock speaker wires plugged into high level RCA inputs on the sub. It sounds unbelievable! There's plenty of bass response from very low freqs to a nice punchy mid-bass and, even though I didn't install the extra bass control knob (another thing to run to the deck!), I can control the bass just fine from the deck and dial it in just right. For the convenience and great bass it can't be beat!

Pros: Great bass, pretty easy to install (I'm a musician not a stereo installer!), construction looks very good

Cons: Nothing that I dislike
