About the MTX Amplified ThunderForms

John Pollard
Crinkled french fries, discarded receipts, old gum wrappers — you probably have everything in the hidden corners of your vehicle except great bass. But with custom ThunderForm enclosures, you can fill the nooks and crannies of your car, truck, or SUV with low tones that stand out.

Crinkled french fries, discarded receipts, old gum wrappers — you probably have everything in the hidden corners of your vehicle except great bass. But with custom ThunderForm enclosures, you can fill the nooks and crannies of your car, truck, or SUV with low tones that stand out.

MTX engineers evaluate the "sonic signatures" of top-selling vehicles so they can design ThunderForms as custom acoustic matches. With "rotational molding," MTX ensures that each ThunderForm fits and blends inconspicuously into your vehicle. They're made of high-density polyethylene resin to curb resonances and deliver bass that's tight, hard-hitting, and way down low.

This molded MTX ThunderForm comes loaded with two premium-quality 10" Terminator subwoofers modified especially for amplified Thunderforms, with a specially-designed amp that puts out 200 watts of power. It installs in your 2002-up Dodge Ram Quad Cab pickup under the rear seat. The enclosure is seamless and airtight, with the correct internal volume to yield optimum bass response from the subwoofers. Hardware is included.

Features

Vehicle-Specific Custom Enclosure: This MTX ThunderForm enclosure is specifically designed to fit select Dodge Ram Quad Cab and Crew Cab pickups. Please enter your vehicle information to confirm fit.

Enclosure: The enclosure is made of molded high-density polyethylene resin, which damps resonance and is rigid enough to resist flexing. It is an acoustic suspension (sealed) chamber.

Mounting Location: This enclosure is designed to mount under the rear seat.

Note: The provided dimensions are taken at the widest points of the enclosure. Keep in mind that this enclosure is custom made to fit in this particular vehicle, so the enclosure will fit properly in only one specific location.

10" Terminator Subwoofers: This enclosure comes loaded with two 10" MTX Terminator subwoofers. The woofers have an unusual impedance, specifically designed for the built-in amp, and cannot be replaced with a standard MTX model.

Class D Amplifier: The enclosure contains a built-in 200-watt Class D (digital) amplifier that allows RCA or speaker-level input. The amplifier is highly efficient and designed specifically for use with the subwoofers in the enclosure.

Electronic Bass Control (EBC): The EBC is a wired remote and allows you to adjust the bass level from anywhere in the vehicle. Installing the EBC is optional.

Gain Control: The rotary control is used to set the gain of the amplifier to match the input.

Tools Required: The manual provides this list of required tools:

  • Powered Screwdriver
  • #2 Phillips Head Bit
  • Wire Cutters
  • 15mm Socket
  • 13mm Socket

Q
How do I run the wires from the stock radio to the amp for the subs under my back seat in my 2018 ram 2500 gas?
joshua  Feb 27, 2024
1 answer
A
You will need to run some wires from a signal source to the speaker-level input harness on the MTX Amplified Thunderform, Joshua. Depending on your specific trim and radio in your 2018 RAM, we may have some vehicle specific adapters that can help. Use our online Vehicle Guide to enter your truck's exact specifics to see adapters that fit your vehicle. If you have any issues or need help placing your order, give us a call at 1-800-324-9695 and an Advisor would be happy to help!

Q
I have the factory radio unit in my 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 quad. I was wondering if I still needed an amp as its already amplified?
savanna  Jul 24, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings S.P., and thank you for your question. If you have a factory subwoofer, the factory amplifier is sending ballpark 40-50 watts of power to the factory sub. Thats not enough to run these two subwoofers, so, yes you would need another amp to run these.
hogan  Jul 25, 2023 (Staff)
Q
will this fit my 2017 Crew Cab which has the one single factory sub? can i remove the storage boxes on the driver side and make it fit?
lee  Apr 27, 2023
3 answers
A
Yes, this will fit your 2017 Crew Cab. You don't have to remove the storage boxes as this unit fits directly underneath the back seats perfectly. The only item you will have to remove is the fold out floor of equipped with that.
paul  Apr 28, 2023
A
I bought it for a 2011 1500 crew cab and i just put it in my 2017 2500 crew cab and it fit like a glove so i would think it would fit in yours.
william j  Apr 27, 2023
A
It should fit all crew cab models, I'd imagine you can remove the factory sub and go from there and yes, you have to remove the 'lids' of the factory storage boxes to make it fit. If you don't have those built in underseat storage boxes then it will not fit.

Q
I have this same box set up for a few years now an Iâ??ve recently had to take the old subs out and amp and now I keep blowing subs I have the whole in the middle where the pre amp is covered with thick plastic to make sealed box. Iâ??ve used shallow mount subs Dvc and Iâ??ve just had bad luck. Iâ??d like to say. ngnotenough air flow and with this being a pre made box. Odd question but Im looking for a lil bit more professional help now?
kchodges54  Aug 23, 2022

A
Your spot on, Kendel! It's always really hard to drop different subs and more powerful amps into the pre made slim truck enclosures. This particular setup is matched well for the subs, airspace, and power. The super small airspace enclosures are tricky to send more power to, and the fact that the box is so small internally could be a reason you have been having subwoofer issues. Not a lot of speakers will work well in this enclosure. We have options! Check out these Q customs Factory-fit enclosures below, you can use one on the drivers and one on the passengers side for a dual sub setup. This is super similar to what you have with the MTX with two differences, the Q customs is MDF with a plastic coating, and it has a slightly larger internal space. This could potentially work better with a custom sub/amp setup. If you are going for massive bass a custom box is the cure, but most folks won't want to remove their rear seats. This third link below is the JL Stealthbox, also a great sounding dual sub box for your truck! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_044CDQ110D/Q-Customs-Factory-fit-Subwoofer-Enclosures-Black-Drivers-Side.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_044CDQC110/Q-Customs-Factory-fit-Subwoofer-Enclosures-Black-Passengers-Side.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_13694610/JL-Audio-Stealthbox.html

Q
With the built in amp, are these subs essentially plug and play?
ty  Feb 09, 2022
4 answers
A
Yes there plug and play
chris  Feb 12, 2022
A
Yes. The downside of it being built in is if you have issues they require you to send the entire box back to them. I had a power supply go bad on my first one. They covered costs under warranty but shipping the whole box back was a pain. The 2nd one has been in a year with no issues. Sounds great.
jeremy  Feb 09, 2022
A
If you're using a factory head unit you will tap into the rear speaker wire on the drivers side. If using an aftermarket head unit with rca's it's plug and play. I am happy with it. Not a hard hitting set but good sound quality
david  Feb 09, 2022
A
Yes to an extent

Q
Are the MTX subs in this amplified set up dual voice coil?

A
We do not have that specification on this powered subwoofer. I recommend contacting MTX's support to check if they can supply those details on the subs

Q
Can you put in a different set of 10 inch subs in this enclosure. Referring to 2 10" Rockford fosgate's?
cruzzer  Mar 21, 2021
1 answer
A
We have not researched the box in this package to know if other brand/model subwoofers will fit and work with the internal airspace. Sometimes, we have unloaded subwoofer boxes for the same pickup and we will have the specifications for those to help with finding matching subs. I recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to check your pickup.

You can connect it to either the factory wiring or an aftermarket head unit. It can take a speaker level input (for factory radio) or preamp input (for aftermarket).

rocky  Jul 09, 2015
A
No. The sub enclosure has it's own built in amplifier.
ryan  Jul 09, 2015
A
Yes. Your head unit should come with a subwoofer output on the back. I bought an Alpine 500 watt Mono amp and added it to my system in my Dodge. Best thing I ever did.
randall  Jul 09, 2015
A
No the amp is already installed in the center of the box. Its molded into the box itself. All you would need to do is still run a power cable, ground wire and a remote wire along with RCA cable from the head unit to the amp in the box. Fairly easy setup and they sound great, especially after you break them in.
angela marie  Jul 09, 2015

If it's the same one I have No. It has a built-in 200 watt amp. There's two listed on the web site. I paid $799, this one has the built-in amp. I believe it tells you under the Details tab. Hope this helps.
