About the MTX Amplified ThunderForm

John Pollard
Crinkled french fries, discarded receipts, old gum wrappers — you probably have everything in the hidden corners of your vehicle except great bass. ThunderForm enclosures fill the nooks and crannies of your vehicle with low tones that stand out, but their factory look blends right in.

Crinkled french fries, discarded receipts, old gum wrappers — you probably have everything in the hidden corners of your vehicle except great bass. ThunderForm enclosures fill the nooks and crannies of your vehicle with low tones that stand out, but their factory look blends right in.

MTX engineers evaluate the "sonic signatures" of top-selling vehicles so they can design ThunderForms as custom acoustic matches. Each ThunderForm fits and blends inconspicuously into your vehicle, so you get great bass without losing any space. The high-density polyethylene resin enclosure curbs unwanted resonances from your sub, so you'll hear bass that's tight, hard-hitting, and way down low.

This molded MTX ThunderForm comes loaded with a premium-quality 12" Terminator subwoofer and a specially-designed amp that puts out 200 watts RMS. It installs in the trunk on the passenger side of your 2005-up Ford Mustang coupe. MTX's Electronic Bass Control (EBC) lets you adjust the bass level from the driver's seat. Hardware and harness are included.

Features

Vehicle-Specific Custom Enclosure: This MTX ThunderForm enclosure is specifically designed to fit select 2005-2012 Ford Mustang coupes (it's not compatible with the convertibles). Please refer to the Crutchfield Car Selector to confirm fit for your vehicle.

Enclosure: The ThunderForm enclosure is molded from high-density polyethylene resin, which dampens resonance and is rigid enough to resist flexing. It is an acoustic suspension (sealed) chamber.

Mounting Location: This enclosure mounts in the trunk, on the passenger's side. Note: The provided dimensions are taken at the widest points of the enclosure. Keep in mind that these enclosures are custom made to fit in this particular vehicle, so the enclosure will fit properly in only one specific location.

Terminator Woofer: This enclosure comes loaded with one 12" Terminator woofer.

Note: The woofer has an unusual impedance, specifically designed with the amp, and cannot be replaced with a standard MTX model.

Class D Amplifier: The enclosure contains a built-in 200-watt Class D (digital) amplifier that allows RCA or speaker-level input. The amplifier is highly efficient and designed specifically for use with the subwoofers in the enclosure.

Electronic Bass Control (EBC): The EBC is a wired remote and allows you to adjust the bass level from anywhere in the vehicle. Installing the EBC is optional.

Low-pass Crossover: The low-pass crossover point is adjustable from 50 to 150 Hz for a seamless transition between the output of this unit and that of the other speakers in the vehicle.

High/Low-Level Input: The unit offers one pair of RCA inputs that can be used with a High Level (speaker-level) or Low Level (preamp-level) input signal. A pair of High Level input wires (tinned bare wire-to-RCA plug) is included.

Auto Turn-On Feature: When the Thunderform is connected using a speaker-level input signal, the amplifier will automatically detect the signal and turn on and off with the radio. The auto turn-on feature does not operate when a preamp level input signal is used, therefore the remote turn-on lead should be connected.

Controls:

  • Gain Control: rotary control; set the gain of the amplifier to match the input
  • Crossover Control: rotary control; adjust the crossover point from 50 to 150 Hz

Inputs:

  • Input: left and right RCA jacks; these jacks allow speaker-level input when the supplied RCA high-level input wires are connected
  • EBC: mini-jack for use with supplied external bass control
  • Harness: 3-pin jack for use with supplied wiring harness
  • Fuse: installed 20A ATC fuse

Customer Q&A

Q
Will this sub work with a Steeda Chassis X-Brace (part# 555-5093) and/or does itt cover/block the right rear shock mount? Also, my GT500 came with the Shaker1000 system (the sub was removed because it blocked access to the rear passengers upper shock mount); is there a plug and play wiring harness to go from the Shaker1000 to the MTX?

A
The MTX is molded to fit the passenger's side of the trunk. It is not made to fit with any aftermarket bracing installed. It is not "plug and play" but does come with a 20' power lead, a 3' ground lead, and a 3' remote turn-on lead. It also comes with the speaker level to RCA adapters for the audio signal. You can view the manual for the custom enclosure by clicking the link for it under the "What's in the Box?" heading on the Thunderform's main webpage.

Q
Does this have a matching driver side setup?
stang  Jun 14, 2016

A
Thanks for your question. Unfortunately no. These are molded for specific vehicle locations so for the Mustang it's only available for the passenger side.

Q
Is this subwoofer & amp a simple plug and play or do i have to run my own power wires and speaker wire ???

A
The sub and amp is a simple plug and play system, no need to buy any additional wires.
raul  Apr 24, 2014

There is still some running of wires that needs to be done with this type of install: Wiring harness (20' power lead/3' ground lead and 3' remote turn-on lead) Speaker-level to RCA harness Electronic Bass Control (wired remote) with attached cable
