MTX FPR12-02

Shallow-mount 12" 2-ohm subwoofer

Overview

Our take on the MTX FPR12-02

Shallow sub, intense bass
MTX built the FPR12-02 subwoofer to give you big bass in a vehicle that that doesn't have room for traditional large subwoofers. This sub comes in at only 3-3/8" deep, so it mounts in low-profile enclosures that'll fit almost anywhere. This sub handles up to 400 watts RMS, and delivers the kind of powerful performance that you'd usually only experience with a traditional sub. Its 2-ohm impedance makes it a great match for your mono amp.

Durable design
You can push the FPR12-02 hard, and it's built to survive in the tough car environment. A lightweight aluminum dustcap protects the polypropylene cone, while the rugged rubber surround offers long-lasting durability. MTX's unique Spider Plateau Venting keeps your subwoofer running cool during intense jam sessions. This sub requires a sealed box.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 300 and 600 watts RMS at 2 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

Just installed this sub because i had a 10 inch and needed more bass and it delivered. The sub sounds clear with a lot of bass i love it.

Bought two of these to replace my kicker comps vr under the back seat of a 14 f150. Installed in a sealed .8 cub box per sub, added some polyfil to try and make up the difference, ran monster's XLN 12 ga speaker cable and i am powering them with 1000 watt RMS mono class D. I have been in car audio for years and in my younger days used to compete. After retuning my amp finally connected them and honestly was a lot more than i was expecting. Than i looked back there and realized only one was actually working, did some trouble shooting and found one to be DOA. Not a big deal called Crutchfield and they sent a new one out right away, gotta love costumer service like that. Received the new one and threw that puppy in and wow..... Honestly one would have been plenty.. So unless you need stupid amounts of bass save yourself some money, one will be plenty...

Pros: Hits deep, and clean for a shallow.

Excellent shallow-mount sub - In 2015 Jeep JK (Wrangler)

I have a 2015 Jeep JK (Wrangler) Unlimited, so space is definitely a luxury that I don't have. I didn't want a traditional sub-box taking up valuable space in the back of the vehicle, and although I do use my Jeep as a daily driver, I do take it off-road in the mountains on occasion. I built a custom sub box that mounted to the tailgate of my Jeep. It is only 4 inches deep, and has an internal volume of about 0.7 cubic feet. This sub really requires a space of about 0.84 cubic feet, but it sounds awesome. Plenty of thump when the music calls for it, and fills in the sound wonderfully. I paired this sub with the Alpine MRV-M500 500W Amplifier, running off my Insane Audio JK1001 Android Powered head unit. I am extremely pleased with the sound I get out of this sub, especially considering the small volume I had to work with.

Pros: Great sound out of a very small, sealed box. Doesn't take an overwhelming amount of power to push the sub. If you are constrained on space, I would definitely suggest this.

Cons: Couple of cons, but they are minor. First, the speaker doesn't come with a paper template to draw your sizes if you are making your own box. Not a deal killer, but for a sub at this price, I expect to get one. Also, the sub doesn't come with mounting screws. Again, not a big deal, but just be aware of it. Finally, I wish the sub came with a grill. I will probably purchase one just to protect the investment.

I ordered this for my son's pickup & we installed it together. I had never done amp's & subwoofers as it was all volume & treble in my day. All in all, it went pretty well and my only complaint was getting the heavy gauge wire into the side of the amp. Once we got it all setup, it was worth it. It really adds to the aftermarket stereo we put in a couple of years ago. I'd definitely recommend this product, especially some with a truck/SUV with limited space for a sub. Don't let the size fool you - this sub really packs a punch!

Great subwoofer. Sound quality is excellent. Perfect for small enclosures.

Pros: Price

Cons: The top of the woofer is a bit higher than my box, thus causing a vibration if it touches anything.
