Add some boom

MTX's RTL12X2D enclosed subwoofer will add intense bass to your ride, thanks to its two 12" Road Thunder subwoofers — just add an amp and wiring and you're good to go. These subs sound loud and deep in their rugged, ported enclosure that's built from medium-density fiberboard and covered with carpet — it'll be right at home in your trunk. The enclosure's 2-ohm impedance will draw out maximum power from your mono amp.

MTX engineering

MTX subs are built with years of know-how to make them sound large and in charge. The included Road Thunder subs feature polypropylene cones supported by a big rubber surround that resists cracking or separating. The sub's cooling system features forced-air venting in the stamped solid-steel frame that keeps the voice coils cool. The uniquely shaped spider assembly and extended pole piece ensure linear cone movement, so your bass sounds full, deep, and clean. And MTX protects this enclosure with their unique 5-year warranty.

Enclosed Subwoofers 101

An enclosed subwoofer is a box with a subwoofer already installed. The advantage to buying an enclosed sub is that the manufacturer made the sub, then designed and built the box as a perfect match, so you'll get the best possible performance. Every enclosed sub has a maximum RMS power handling rating, so pair it with an amp with a similar RMS power rating to get the best performance.

In this price range, these are fantastic. I have a Sound Ordnance M-1500 pushing this setup and it's awesome in my SUV.

Pros: Sound quality

Cons: Vibrating my interior apart.

I installed these in a 1996 Dodge ram 1500. I have been using these for about two months now. you turn the radio down and these are just as mild as can be, but when you turn it up, they will blow your mind. I absolutely love these.

Pros: Great sound, great value, good looks, easy to install, completely userfriendly

Cons: For the price, I don't really see any cons for this unit.

Like others have said, a great deal at this price. They arrived in about a week give or take, and with the right amp they sound pretty darn good! They can't handle much power but a good 500w mono class d is your best bet. Mine are in an enclosed trunk, wonder what they would sound like in an suv or hatch...

Pros:

Cons: not really any negatives at this price

Great Sub with great bass without any distortion to music but still making the car shake. This system also looks great in the trunk of your car and does not mess around with boom. Great Sub with a great price. Put in a good amp and you will have your car shaking in no time. Great product.

These subs hit pretty hard. I originally started with an swr-823d, 8" alpine type r. The alpine was just not enough. I purchased these in its place and wow! at 2ohms they hit pretty hard and this is with an mrp-m500 alpine amp. Be warned that this enclosure is huge. The construction is great and I would tell others to buy this if you are looking for a budget system.

Pros: Well built, sounds good when paired with a decent amp.

Cons: This thing is huge.

Features

Woofers: The MTX RTL12X2D enclosure uses two 12" Road Thunder subwoofers.

Spider Plateau Venting: Heat from the voice coil is vented through vents that surround the back of the spider. As the woofer travels back and forth, cool air is pulled in and heated air is pushed out.

Asymmetrical Linear Drive System (ALDS): The Asymmetrical Linear Drive System consists of a flat, progressive spider that improves suspension and an extended pole piece that smoothes out the cone's linear motion. The result is high output and low distortion.

Speaker Terminals: The single pair of spring post terminals is mounted on the back of the enclosure and will accept pin connectors, single or dual banana plugs, or bare wire up to 10 gauge.

2Ω Load: The two subwoofers are internally wired to present a 2Ω load.

Break-in Period: The subwoofers' suspensions are stiff out-of-the-box and require a break-in period in order to produce optimum low-bass response. Approximately two weeks of daily playing will allow the suspension to break-in and reach its optimum equilibrium. A broken-in subwoofer will exhibit stronger bass performance, smoother response, and better low-bass extension.

Warranty

5 Year Warranty Terms: This product carries a 5-Year Prorated Warranty with the following terms:

  • Years 1-2: Products found to be defective in materials or workmanship during the first two years will be, at Mitek's option, repaired or replaced by Mitek at no charge. The warranty period does not renew, but continues on from the original date of purchase.
  • Years 3-5: The purchase price of an item which becomes defective after the first two years and prior to the end of the warranty period will be prorated and credited toward the purchase of a new MTX product. The amount of proration is determined by dividing the original purchase price by the number of months in the warranty period (60), then multiplying the result by the number of months remaining in the warranty period.

Customer Q&A

3 questions already asked

It was a poor ground thanks everyone [ jhon  Mar 01, 2015 ]
Sorry to hear that John. I would do some basic troubleshooting. Check all wires, ground cable is getting proper metal contact. Also check the levels on AMP. I had these since the summer last year with no issues. Hope this helps! Tony R [ Anthony  Feb 28, 2015 ]
Some amps restart themselves when shut off while still connected. I had a cheap BOSS amp and it did this at first and in the summer heat. No problems later on and with newer amp tho [ Chase  Feb 26, 2015 ]
It sounds like your amp is clipping. [ KELLI  Feb 26, 2015 ]
I had a similar issue, make sure your ground is okay, I had to sand the spot where I was was grounded to strip it of paint. [ Jacob  Feb 26, 2015 ]
Thank u [ jo blow  Dec 29, 2014 ]
It's is a large rectangle port on the right side of the box about 5 inches wide and bottom to top of the box [ Jacob  Dec 28, 2014 ]
Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system. [ Krissy  Aug 22, 2014 ]  Staff
