MTX engineering

MTX subs are built with years of know-how to make them sound large and in charge. The included Road Thunder subs feature polypropylene cones supported by a big rubber surround that resists cracking or separating. The sub's cooling system features forced-air venting in the stamped solid-steel frame that keeps the voice coils cool. The uniquely shaped spider assembly and extended pole piece ensure linear cone movement, so your bass sounds full, deep, and clean. And MTX protects this enclosure with their unique 5-year warranty.

Features

Woofers: The MTX RTL12X2D enclosure uses two 12" Road Thunder subwoofers.

Spider Plateau Venting: Heat from the voice coil is vented through vents that surround the back of the spider. As the woofer travels back and forth, cool air is pulled in and heated air is pushed out.

Asymmetrical Linear Drive System (ALDS): The Asymmetrical Linear Drive System consists of a flat, progressive spider that improves suspension and an extended pole piece that smoothes out the cone's linear motion. The result is high output and low distortion.

Speaker Terminals: The single pair of spring post terminals is mounted on the back of the enclosure and will accept pin connectors, single or dual banana plugs, or bare wire up to 10 gauge.

2Ω Load: The two subwoofers are internally wired to present a 2Ω load.

Break-in Period: The subwoofers' suspensions are stiff out-of-the-box and require a break-in period in order to produce optimum low-bass response. Approximately two weeks of daily playing will allow the suspension to break-in and reach its optimum equilibrium. A broken-in subwoofer will exhibit stronger bass performance, smoother response, and better low-bass extension.

Warranty

5 Year Warranty Terms: This product carries a 5-Year Prorated Warranty with the following terms:

  • Years 1-2: Products found to be defective in materials or workmanship during the first two years will be, at Mitek's option, repaired or replaced by Mitek at no charge. The warranty period does not renew, but continues on from the original date of purchase.
  • Years 3-5: The purchase price of an item which becomes defective after the first two years and prior to the end of the warranty period will be prorated and credited toward the purchase of a new MTX product. The amount of proration is determined by dividing the original purchase price by the number of months in the warranty period (60), then multiplying the result by the number of months remaining in the warranty period.

Sorry to hear that John. I would do some basic troubleshooting. Check all wires, ground cable is getting proper metal contact. Also check the levels on AMP. I had these since the summer last year with no issues. Hope this helps! Tony R

Some amps restart themselves when shut off while still connected. I had a cheap BOSS amp and it did this at first and in the summer heat. No problems later on and with newer amp tho

It sounds like your amp is clipping.

Q
I'm looking at either buying MTX Terminator Subwoofers or MTX Road Thunder Subwoofer Enclosure. If I get the Road Thunder I would need to get an amp that does the job and hits hard. I also don't want it to overheat though. I also can't spend over $130. Any advice?

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.
