About the MTX RTX2BT

John Pollard
Concert level highs
Are you looking to play your music loud? If so, you'll want to check out MTX's Road Thunder Extreme speakers, which use PA system technology to bring concert sound levels to your car. If it's time to take your highs to the next level, MTX designed the RTX2BT 2" tweeter with the same compression-horn design found in most concert PA systems, so it'll play at high volumes for extended periods without breaking a sweat. And thanks to its aluminum cone and titanium diaphragm, this incredibly rugged tweeter can handle up to 100 watts RMS. Its 8-ohm impedance means you can wire up two to a single amplifier channel for maximum high-frequency intensity.

Note: This package contains one tweeter. You'll need an external amplifier to drive this tweeter properly — an in-dash stereo won't have enough power.

Features

Crossover: A capacitor is soldered to the positive terminal of the tweeter as a first order high-pass crossover. The crossover point using the capacitor is approximately 9 kHz. Optimally, the capacitor should be removed and an electronic crossover used.

Installation: The determining factor of how large the mounting hole needs to be to mount this tweeter is the magnet diameter, which is 2-3/4 inches. However, the wire terminals protrude approximately 3/8 of an inch beyond the magnet, so additional notches in the opening may be necessary.

Will these fit in my 2014 traverse?

Measure the cone height to make sure it fits below your grill. I have a 2010 Maxima Bose system and it was a little smaller than the original speaker. The grill is raised a little, but nobody can tell except for me. I love cone speakers ever since I purchased my Klipsch LaScalla speakers back in the 80's. I still have those. The MTX tweeter sounds amazing. It's very crisp.

Q
Would these sufficiently fit to replace the factory units in the overhead roll bar panel on my 2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with the Alpine Premium system?

A
I do own 2 Jeeps but they are CJ-7's and do have a sound bar in one.....but there are a few styles and yours is a newer model so.....my suggestion is to measure the depth,(because you will need 1.5"to 2" behind the speaker for optimal fidelity), and measure the opening and compare it to the diagonal measurements of the speaker You may need to fabricate something to make it work in the given opening, but the back spacing is a must. the speaker is truly a "component speaker" but I believe it will work well in your desired application. I use mine in conjunction with 6x9 speakers and a 10" sub-woofer and it is in my Dodge Pick-up cab with the tweeters facing the occupants with the sub and 6x9's behind them. I designed and fabricated hardwood boxes for the tweeters.

Q
Will this fit in a Hyundai Accent 2012?
jesus  Jul 06, 2020

A
This is really a"component" speaker.......It is meant to be a piece of larger speaker unit.....I guess if you are ok at installation.....it could fit in any hole of the right size and depth.....but what kinda sound is it gonna produce? My recommendation would be if you insist upon using a"bullet tweeter" as a separate speaker, would be to locate the spot where you want the speaker to be. Then make a hardwood enclosure to fit that spot.
