MTX ThunderForm Unloaded Enclosure

Overview

Our take on the MTX ThunderForm Unloaded Enclosure

Crinkled french fries, discarded receipts, old gum wrappers — you probably have everything in the hidden corners of your vehicle except great bass. ThunderForm enclosures fill the nooks and crannies of your vehicle with low tones that stand out, but their factory look blends right in.

Crinkled french fries, discarded receipts, old gum wrappers — you probably have everything in the hidden corners of your vehicle except great bass. ThunderForm enclosures fill the nooks and crannies of your vehicle with low tones that stand out, but their factory look blends right in.

MTX engineers evaluate the "sonic signatures" of top-selling vehicles so they can design ThunderForms as custom acoustic matches. Each ThunderForm fits and blends inconspicuously into your vehicle, so you get great bass without losing any space. They're made of high-density polyethylene resin to curb resonances — they deliver bass that's tight, hard-hitting, and way down low. The airtight enclosure provides the correct internal volume to yield optimum bass response.

This black enclosure comes without a speaker — you install your favorite 10" subwoofer. For best results, MTX strongly recommends using a speaker designed for an enclosure with a volume of 0.8 cubic feet. The enclosure mounts under the driver's side rear window in the cargo area of select 2001-06 Chevy Tahoe vehicles.

This worked great in my 2002 Yukon Denali even though it wasn't advertised for my truck. I just had to relocate the factory amplifier to the storage compartment in the side panel. I used my own amp and subwoofer and it sounds great. Very nice product.

2004 GMC Yukon
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Enclosure fit 2004 Yukon perfectly. For some reason Crutchfield catalog says this fits 2001 - 2006 Tahoe but only 2001 and 2002 Yukon. I called manufacturer and they said it would fit 2004 Yukon and it did. It is roughly 6 times as large as the factory square box for the factory 8 inch sub. This enclosure takes a 10 inch low depth subwoofwer. I mounted it with a Rockford Fosgate P3SD2-10 Punch P3S 10-Inch 2-Ohm DVC Shallow Subwoofer and powered it with a Alpine MRV-M500 Mono V-Power Digital Amplifier and it was a perfect fit

Pros: allows great bass in a vehicle with absolutely no room. worked great with a single Sub which is all you can mount practically in this vehicle. perfect fit but you do have to relocate you jack( i put mine in the other storage pocket just inches away from the original location that gets filled by this enclosure. Manufacture had told me that I might have to cut jack mounting stud from Yukon, but the enclosure had a little pocket built in that cleared the stud so no cutting involved

Cons: No cons... but I ran out of space under "Pros " so here are some more pros... this is much easier and much better use of every square inch of "available space" VS making a custom cabinet

2002 GMC Yukon Denali

This worked great in my 2002 Yukon Denali even though it wasn't advertised for my truck. I just had to relocate the factory amplifier to the storage compartment in the side panel. I used my own amp and subwoofer and it sounds great. Very nice product.

Pros: Great fit, factory look.

Cons: Had to relocate factory amp.

Also fits Denali (with modification)

2005 GMC Yukon Denali
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this item for a 2005 GMC Yukon Denali. According to the description this item doesn't fit that model. With a minor modification I was able to install without issue. All that was needed was to remove the threaded bolt that held the tire jack in place. The jack had to be installed in another location (above the Thunderform). All in all it worked out great and the only minor complaint is the high price. If you're looking for a way to mount a shallow sub and save space then this is a very good option.

Pros: Securely fits in confined area to save space Relatively easy to install

Cons: Very expensive (would have rated 5 stars if price was more reasonable)

No, bought sub separately. [ Arthur  Sep 11, 2014 ]
It doesn't. A loaded enclosure means that it come pre equipped with subwoofer and/or amplifier and unloaded means that the enclosure is the only thing you get. [ B  Sep 09, 2014 ]
No. Sub is NOT included. [ KEVIN  Sep 08, 2014 ]
No, Hence the Unloaded. But pick a Speaker that fits or you will be doing some modifications. [ WAYNE E  Sep 08, 2014 ]
No. Mine came only as an empty enclosure that you put your own sub in. They have a "Loaded" enclosure that you can order that includes a sub, just cost more. [ DAVID  Sep 08, 2014 ]
