MTX

Our take on the MTX TR5512-04

A bass feast for the ears and eyes

Let your subs do the talking. MTX's TR55 Series subwoofers kick it up a notch, bringing you louder, more impressive bass without sacrificing looks or durability. These subs feature a stamped steel basket, gloss black polypropylene dust cap, and a stitched rubber surround for high performance, along with a rubber magnet boot and gothic MTX Audio logo for great looks. But make no mistake, these subs were designed with one goal — to deliver great bass.

Enclosure Compatibility

Features

Cone Design: The woofer uses a polypropylene cone that features a gloss black metallic paint on the polypropylene dust cap with a raised MTX Audio gothic logo. The Thunder 55 series woofer offers better thermal management and increased reliability at high Sound Pressure Levels (SPL).

High Roll NBR Surrounds: The surrounds are made of NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber). The surrounds are stitched to the cones, providing added strength and durability under high SPL. NBR has the added benefit of being resistant to ozone and UV rays for extreme durability. The surround geometry maximizes excursion without sacrificing cone surface area.

Voice Coil: Designed for high power handling and large linear excursion, the woofer's 2" voice coil is wound onto a high-temperature former with 428° F aluminum.

Asymmetrical Linear Drive System (ALDS): The Asymmetrical Linear Drive System consists of a flat, progressive spider that improves suspension and an extended vented pole piece that smoothes out the cone's linear motion. The result is high output and low distortion.

Spider Plateau Venting: Heat from the voice coil is vented through metal-mesh covered vents that surround the back of the spider. As the woofer travels back and forth, cool air is pulled in and heated air is pushed out.

Stamped Steel Basket: This woofer has a stamped steel basket designed to support the magnet structure and prevent buckling. There is a rubber magnet boot to enhance the look of the subs when reversed mounted.

Terminals: The woofer features a pair of heavy-duty chrome push terminals which can accept single banana plugs, pin connectors or up to 8-gauge speaker wire.

Enclosure Compatibility

Enclosure Recommendations: For the best possible sound quality where space is a premium, MTX recommends using a sealed enclosure. For excellent sound quality with increased output compared to sealed enclosures (3dB or more), MTX recommends using a vented enclosure.

Recommended Sealed Box Volume: The sealed box size recommended by MTX has an internal volume of 1.25 cu/ft.

Recommended Vented Box Volume: The vented box size recommended by MTX has a net internal volume of 2.00 cu/ft with a slotted port. The port slot dimensions are 14" high, 2" wide, and 16.75" long.

Running 2 of these in a sealed box with 380 watts Rms going to each, they hit hard and sound good, hooked them up to my friends amp in his car and had 510 watts rms going to each and they kept pounding for a 2 hr car drive with no problem, These subs live up to MTX's reputation being tough.

Amazing sub, have a pair of these hooked up to a JH-1200 amp pushing about 3-400 watts per sub. Nice clean bass with the extra boom when you need it. Very pleased with how fast it shipped, wont be going any where else for car audio any more.

I bought 2 of the tr55's and have them running off of 2 clarion 400 watt amps bridged and they sound GREAT! They could still handle more power than what they are getting but I turn heads a few blocks away and they are priced good also. I will be buying a second set for my other vehicle!

It's surely a powerful sub!! But its very different. The delivery is surprising and not what I expected. It's hard to explain what it sounds like, almost like its its own system. Unlike the Rockford Fosgate I traded it for with the same power it goes with all types of music at any volume. Don't get me wrong its an awesome sub just not my style. I would ONLY recommend this to a person who listens to a lot of rap, hip hop, or R&B. Good luck!! :)

The type of bass you get from your component subwoofer doesn't depend on the woofer alone. You'll need a strong, tightly constructed enclosure for optimum subwoofer performance.
