Our take on the MTX Thunder6000 T6.6

Whether you use the versatile Thunder6000 T6.6 6-3/4" component system as separate components or coaxials, it offers superior musicality. The "convertible" system arrives as a coaxial, with the tweeter mounted inside the woofer cone. For a component system set-up, simply remove the PEF (Poly-emide foam) dome tweeter, put an included phase plug in its place, and mount it as a separate component. Then, swivel the tweeter (flush- or surface-mountable) for enhanced imaging.

The titanium-plated polypropylene woofer cone stays strong and rigid for kickin' bass. The 3/4" tweeter is ferrofluid-cooled, so it can run long and hard without overheating. Machined front and back plates complete a truly classic appearance. 1-year warranty.

Woofers

Woofer Cone Material: The woofer cones are constructed of titanium-coated injection-molded polypropylene. The titanium coating adds strength and heat resistance to the polypropylene, resulting in reduced distortion and improved reliability.

Surrounds: The butyl rubber surrounds have greater internal loss than standard urethane surrounds, preventing harmonic distortion at higher frequencies. Butyl rubber more efficiently absorbs edge reflections that can cause audible distortion, resulting in clearer bass performance. In addition, the surrounds can withstand the extremes of the automotive environment.

Tweeters

Tweeter Dome Material: Each 3/4" dome tweeter is made with a Poly-emide foam dome that offers smooth, clear highs.

Neodymium Magnets: This type of magnet produces a strong magnetic field. Since neodymium magnets are so strong, a small neodymium magnet can be used to make a compact tweeter, without sacrificing  performance.

Ferro-Fluid Cooled Voice Coils: Each tweeter voice coil is fluid cooled for greater durability.

Standard Tweeter Mounting Options: The tweeters may be flush or surface mounted. The tweeters swivel in the flush and surface housings, so you can control the direction of your high frequencies.

Flush Mount (swivel) Surface Mount (swivel)
Mounting Depth 0.852" 0.661" (screw depth)
Mounting Height 0.439" 1.071"
Cutout Diameter 1.649" NA
Frame Diameter 1.886" 1.613"

Tweeter Pole Mounts: In addition to standard tweeter mounting options, the tweeter mounting poles let you mount the tweeters directly to the center of the midranges. When the tweeters are mounted separately, you can mount the supplied phase plugs to the center of the midranges. Note: When the tweeter is attached to the midrange, the speaker mounting height increases to 0.495" and the tweeter protrusion increases to 0.279".

Crossovers

Crossover Dimensions: L=4.763", W=3.015", H=1.251"

2-Way Crossovers: The crossovers feature a 4.0kHz high-pass network for the tweeters and a 4.0kHz low-pass network for the woofers.

Input/Output Connections: The crossover inputs and outputs are gold-plated screw terminals.

Mounting: There are two mounting holes in the base of each crossover.
