MTX Thunder Elite Amps

Thunder Elite heatsink and fans

Prizm EFX color display The MTX Thunder Elite amplifier packs a lot of features and technologies under its handsome black case and distinctive chrome air intake cover. A self-adjusting fan cools the special output stage transistors to ensure consistent power and durable performance. The Prizm EFX™ feature allows you to match the color of the amp's display to your car and to adjust its light to pulse with the music.

Easy-access connections and controls

MTX mounted all the StreetWires-designed input and output terminals on one side to help make wiring neat, and you'll find the amp's controls on top for easy access. Smart Engage™ speaker-level inputs power up the amp automatically when you turn on your stereo, eliminating the need for a turn-on lead from the receiver.

My system has plenty of power. Who needs an amp?

You might think you don't need an amp because you have a 400-watt system in your car, or because your new stereo puts out 50 watts a channel. But those are peak wattage ratings, which may boil down to 15 or 20 watts per channel, using the more realistic RMS rating. An amp sends your speakers the power they need to deliver your music with clarity and impact, whether you're using factory speakers or high-performance components. And low-frequency reproduction requires lots of power, so an amp is an absolute must if you're adding a sub to your system.

Features

Performance Certificate: MTX tests each amplifier and the measured specifications (power output, S/N ratio, THD+N, and frequency response), along with the amp's serial number, are recorded on the included Performance Certificate. The amp must meet or exceed the rated specifications in order to leave the factory.

Xtant Technologies Cooling (XTC): The Xtant Technologies Cooling (XTC) thermal-regulated, turbo-charged intercooler supplies fan forced cool air evenly and constantly through tightly packed, bonded fins. Fan speed is continuously variable and controlled by amplifier's output load and the temperature of the heatsink and transformers. Exhaust of internal heatsink is strategically positioned to cool transformers and maintain maximum performance at all volumes.

Prizm EFX: With the MTX Prizm EFX, you can adjust the color of the backlighting to match your vehicle interior. The color can be adjusted from red to purple to blue to green to white, or any color in between. If desired, you can have the Prizm EFX lighting to pulsate with the beat of music or turn the lighting off altogether.

Dual Mono: The Dual Mono (1-channel) configuration is typically used with subwoofers. All channels can be combined for max power (both the front and rear outputs can be bridged together) and can drive a minimum of a 2 ohm load. In this case the power output is 400 watts into one channel.

Controls

Top Mounted Controls: All the adjustable controls are top mounted for easy access.

Input Switch: A 2-channel/4-channel input switch allows you to feed all four amp channels even if you have only one pair of preamp outputs on your head unit.

Input Sensitivity: The input sensitivity switch can be set to x1 or x10. When set to x1, the input sensitivity is adjustable from 100mV - 1V. When set to x10, the input sensitivity is adjustable from 1V - 10V.

Crossover: The front and rear sections of the amp have individual crossovers, each with a fixed 85 Hz crossover point. The front crossover is high-pass and 12 dB/octave, or can be bypassed for full range operation. The rear crossover is high-pass at 12 dB/octave, low-pass at 24 dB/octave, or it can be bypassed.

External Bass Control (EBC): The External Bass Control lets you adjust the output level of the amplifier from anywhere in the vehicle. When attached to the mounting bracket, the External Bass Control is 1.6" wide, 1.042" tall, and 2.402" deep (including the knob). If flush mounted, the knob protrudes approximately 0.86 inches. The 20' cable attached the the EBC plugs into a 3.5mm mini-jack on the front of the amp.

Connections

StreetWires Connectors: This amp features StreetWires wire terminals for efficient current and maximum voltage transfer. All the connections are across the front of the amp and sized for heavy gauge wire:

  • Power: 4 gauge
  • Ground: 4 gauge
  • Remote: 8 gauge
  • Capacitor: 8 gauge
  • Speakers: 8 gauge

Smart-Engage: When using the speaker-level input, the amp automatically turns on when it senses signal from the head unit, eliminating the need for a remote turn-on connection. In many cases, this feature will allow you to install the amplifier without removing your radio.

Bi-level Inputs: The RCA inputs will accept both speaker-level and line-level signals. To take advantage of the speaker-level input, use the included high-level adapter cables.

Line Output: The front and rear inputs are summed together to create a non-fading line output for an additional amp.
