Terminator 522

It's time to upgrade

MTX is looking out for you. They designed the Terminator Series speakers to put out serious sound without you having to empty your bank account. If you've been dying to replace your burned-out factory speakers, but haven't been able to justify the expense, MTX takes guilt out of the equation. And with protection under MTX's unique 5-year warranty, this buy is as practical as it is fun.

What a speaker

These Terminator522 5-1/4" full-range speakers will take your in-car audio experience to the next level. The durable polypropylene woofer and Mylar dome tweeter are vast improvements over the standard paper cones used by factory speakers. With the sensitivity of these new materials, you'll gain more focus in the midrange and clearer highs, even from the power of a factory stereo. But if you have an aftermarket stereo or amp, you can listen with confidence since these puppies can handle up to 35 watts RMS. Grilles are included for a custom installation.

Highlights:

  • 5-1/4" 2-way car speakers (pair)
  • polypropylene woofer cone with rubber surround
  • Mylar dome tweeter
  • frequency response: 58-20,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 87.9 dB
  • RMS power: 2-35 watts (70 watts peak)
  • top-mount depth: 2-1/8"
  • grilles included
  • warranty: 5 years (free repair or replacement for 2 years; prorated replacement for years 3 through 5)
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Why replace your car's original speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

2000 GMC Yukon
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought the speakers to replace the blown speakers in my 2001 GMC Yukon. They look great in sound good.

Pros: Affordable, fit well(shallow mounting depth) and sound great .

Cons: They are listed as a full range speaker. But the stock paper cone speakers had more low-end bass. If you have a sub woofer it would fill in for the frequencies You are missing with these speakers.

2000 Daewoo Nubira
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced stock rear speakers in a 2000 Daewoo Nubria Wagon. Holes lined up perfectly. Love these speakers.

Pros: Great speakers for the size. Nice range of sound. MTX is always a good quality brand

Cons: A bit flatter than I had hopped. I've used MTX in the past, with a bit more punch. Only reason I took off one star. I wish I could review 4.5 out of 5 since really that flat is only worth about a half star.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are a great addition to my car for the price. They are used to add additional sound to the other speakers in the rear deck and do it nicely. I was surprised by the full range they produced.

Pros: Great fit, easy install, great sound for the money. Impressed by the construction.

Cons:

Great Speakers, Great Value

2010 Mazda 3
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers work really well in our Mazda 3. They were easy to install and really make the stock sound system sound great. Not quite enough bass pushing through them as I would like. But then again, it was a gift for my college-aged daughter and she loves them!

Pros: Super fast delivery and full disclosure by Crutchfield on shortages

Cons: Deep bass sounds

Features

Woofer Cones: The MTX Terminator series speakers feature durable and rigid polypropylene woofer cones. Polypropylene is also resistant to the moisture and temperature extremes found in automotive applications.

Tweeters: Each speaker has a Mylar dome tweeter for clean, accurate highs.

Specification Note: MTX seems to list contradicting power specifications on the box; with the other specifications they list 70 watts peak, but on the front of the box they list 105 watts max power. We've adopted the 70 watt rating simply because it's the more conservative figure.

Warranty: MTX offers a 5-Year Prorated Warranty with the following terms:

  • Years 1-2: Products found to be defective in materials or workmanship during the first two years will be, at Mitek's option, repaired or replaced by Mitek at no charge. The warranty period does not renew, but continues on from the original date of purchase.
  • Years 3-5: The purchase price of an item which becomes defective after the first two years and prior to the end of the warranty period will be prorated and credited toward the purchase of a new MTX product. The amount of proration is determined by dividing the original purchase price by the number of months in the warranty period (60), then multiplying the result by the number of months remaining in the warranty period.
