Terminator 65 tweeter

An inline crossover eliminates the need to install an outboard crossover in your door.

It's time to upgrade

MTX is looking out for you. They designed the Terminator Series speakers to put out serious sound without you having to empty your bank account. If you've been dying to replace your burned-out factory speakers with a component system, but haven't been able to justify the expense, MTX takes guilt out of the equation. And with protection under MTX's unique 5-year warranty, this buy is as practical as it is fun.

What a speaker

These Terminator65 6-1/2" component speakers will take your in-car audio experience to the next level. The durable polypropylene woofer and Mylar tweeter are vast improvements over the standard paper cones used by factory speakers. With the sensitivity of these new materials, you'll gain more focus in the midrange and clearer highs, even from the power of a factory stereo. But if you have an aftermarket stereo or amp, you can listen with confidence since these puppies can handle up to 45 watts RMS. Grilles are included for a custom installation.

Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.

  • component car speaker system includes two woofers and two tweeters
  • 6-1/2" polypropylene woofer cone
  • 1" Mylar tweeter with inline crossover
  • frequency response: 54-20,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 89 dB
  • RMS power: 2-45 watts (90 watts peak)
  • top-mount depth: 2"
  • grilles included
  • warranty: 5 years (free repair or replacement for 2 years; prorated replacement for years 3 through 5)
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Why install component speakers?

A component speaker system gives you the best possible performance from your car audio system. A system consists of separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers, each designed to cover one specific range of frequencies. As separate components, the woofer can move freely to deliver more powerful performance, while the tweeter can be custom-mounted in a better spot up closer to your ears, revealing a whole new world of detail. Separate crossovers are far superior to the simple filters wired into full-range speakers, so the components work together for smoother, more focused sound.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these in my rear doors of my 2004 Nissan Pathfinder. I bought these for the the price & the fact that they didn't have external crossovers, since I have installed components in all of my vehicles, I wanted to give these a try. I was replacing a pair of blown Sony's that I bought from Crutchfield over 20 years ago. I must say they sound really good considering the price, they really compliment the system that I have in the truck. The whole system is Sony, 2-10" subs, Sony components in the front, Sony DVD deck, & a Sony mono amp to run the subs. The bass that comes out of these is really nice. I flush mounted the trweeters in the door panels, the only thing that I didn't like was that the flush mounts are 2 pieces which tend to come apart when you try to tighten them, which was very frustrating. I hope they don't pop out when I'm driving, just have to wait and see. Other than that, they are a very nice set of speakers which you can't beat for the price.

Pros: Price Sound No crossovers Easy installarion

Cons: Flush mount tweeter brackets

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wasn't expecting the bass response we got with these speakers. It's not deep bass because face it, it's only a 6.5 inch cone, but it's very punchy in the mid bass range. We used kickers in the last car we did and these have a better sound in every category. These are being powered off the head unit only.

Pros: Great mid bass and clear crisp highs. Crossover is set just right.

Cons: The brackets weren't in the box so we had to fab them. Not MTX's fault. Crutchfield remedied the issue quickly and sent the brackets right away.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We needed new car speakers, but I was uncertain what to buy. These speakers met our needs perfectly for a low price. Much better than the "High End" speakers from the local big discount retail store for much less money. Sound quality is excellent and installation was easy.

Pros: Easy install, great sound.

Cons: I have hearing loss from military service so I can't fully appreciate the sound quality of these speakers.

These things sound great. They handle plenty of power for the price range they are in. Beautifully designed. But as we all know well, form follows function. They are a good choice. I will definitely buy another set for my other car.

Pros: Perfect fit. Great sound. Excellent customer service

Cons: None that I can think of.

Product Research

Woofer Cones: The MTX Terminator series speakers feature durable and rigid polypropylene woofer cones. Polypropylene is also resistant to the moisture and temperature extremes found in automotive applications.

Woofer Mounting: MTX calls the Terminator65 woofers 6-1/2. They fit into standard 6-3/4 and 6-1/2 openings, but the bolt pattern is 6-3/4. In most 6-1/2 applications, new screw holes must be drilled.

Tweeter Mounting Options: The tweeters can be flush mounted, angled mounted (semi-flush), or surface mounted using the included hardware. Once flush mounted or surface mounted, the tweeter will pivot approximately 10° in any direction.

Tweeter Dimensions:

Frame Diameter Cutout Diameter Mounting Height Mounting Depth
Flush Mount 1.843" 1.643" 0.220" 0.841"
Angled Mount 2.125" x 1.752" 1" x 1.355" 1.01" 0.35"
Surface Mount 1.888" N/A 0.984" Screw Depth

Crossovers: The high pass crossovers are built into the tweeter frames.

Specification Note: MTX seems to list contradicting power specifications on the box; with the other specifications they list 90 watts peak, but on the front of the box they list 135 watts max power. We've adopted the 90 watt rating simply because it's the more conservative figure.

Warranty: MTX offers a 5-Year Prorated Warranty with the following terms:

  • Years 1-2: Products found to be defective in materials or workmanship during the first two years will be, at Mitek's option, repaired or replaced by Mitek at no charge. The warranty period does not renew, but continues on from the original date of purchase.
  • Years 3-5: The purchase price of an item which becomes defective after the first two years and prior to the end of the warranty period will be prorated and credited toward the purchase of a new MTX product. The prorated amount is determined by dividing the original purchase price by the number of months in the warranty period (60), then multiplying the result by the number of months remaining in the warranty period.
