About the MTX Thunder65
Speakers for the real world
Speakers for the real world
MTX doesn't make speakers that only deliver the goods in a sound lab. These affordable 2-way speakers feature a 6-1/2” durable polypropylene cone with a rubber surround that'll shrug off the weather and wear that come with living in your car full-time. Depending how low you need to mount the coaxials, you can swivel the soft dome tweeters up to 15 degrees in your direction to really dial in the stereo imaging.
While no car speaker can produce bass like a large subwoofer, these speakers truly shine in the lower frequencies. With up to 60 watts RMS of power handling, you can add to their impressive depth and richness when you power them with an outboard amplifier. MTX includes black metal mesh grilles in plastic frames for custom installations, and the 2-year warranty really makes these Thunder65 speakers a smart buy.

Features
Woofer Cones: The MTX Thunder Series speakers feature durable and rigid polypropylene woofer cones. Polypropylene is also resistant to the moisture and temperature extremes found in automotive applications.
Tweeters: Each speaker features a 1" treated silk dome tweeter. Silk is lightweight and great for high frequency extension and efficiency. The tweeters pivot slightly within their housings (approximately 15° in any direction), so they can be angled toward the listeners to improve imaging.
Mounting: MTX calls the Thunder65 a 6-1/2, and without using the included woofer mounting bracket, it fits into most 6-3/4 and 6-1/2 openings, but the bolt pattern matches a standard 6-3/4 speaker. To fit the standard 3-hole and 4-hole 6-1/2 applications, the included bracket must be used, resulting in the measurements used to sort what vehicles it will fit. If mounted without the bracket the depth is 2.056" and the mounting height is 0.636". In most 6-1/2 applications, when mounted without the bracket, new screw holes must be drilled.

Very surprised with the sound quality I get from these. Great upgrade from my Kickers that I purchased from Crutchfield previously. Installed in an 05 Chevy crew cab.
