Impressive sound for such a little speaker

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was completely impressed with these speakers. I needed some speakers that would go with my new head unit and didn't require a lot of power. The sound quality is excellent. and for the price they were great. I was a tiny bit sad when they didn't come with speaker grills, I would have been willing to pay more to get the grills, however when I heard the sound, I was over them not having the grills.

Pros: Budget friendly with a high end sound. Low wattage requirements. fast and quick service.

Cons: no speaker grills.

Much better sound than originals. Easy install. Done in about 15 minutes.

Pros: Easy installation.

Cons: Just small speakers but the dash space dictates that.

Nice and easy plug and play install.

Pros: Nice and easy, better than stock.

Cons: They are better than the stock, but if I was to buy, I would spend a little more on a better speaker. Bass isn't that good on these, and they have iffy mids.

Great Little Speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I read several reviews about these speakers not sounding better than the factory speakers that came with the car, but I disagree. These units are not expensive and are not designed for much more than factory replacements, but they are much brighter than the factory units and have more bass. And for 4x6's they sound very good. Don't expect a lot of bass from dash speakers, there just isn't a lot of room for them to resonate in.

Pros: Sound VERY good for what they are. Cost.

Cons: None from my experience.

so put this in a 93 Kodiak c 70 truck were a little deep for the truck and had to heat up the heater (defroster vent for them to fit in the dash.

Pros: sound ok

Cons: fit is a little deep so don't fit flush in the back location and had to heat up defroster toob on the pashinger side (crutchfield did not list the Kodiakk truck) but I figured it was the same as a pickup and the speaker's were all the same when I took them out.

These speakers deliver very clear high quality audio especially at higher frequencies. I just install these and some alpines in my car and I'm more than satisfied. Fast shipping as always thanks to Crutchfield I never go anywhere else to get equipment. One complaint I do have is that I never received any instructions on how to install them as promised. So I just had to figure it out It wasn't too hard. But overall a great buy.

These have the best sound to them. Of course you have to drill new mounting screws but that took an extra 30 seconds to the install. So much better then what I thought I would get out of them.

Pros: Great sound

Cons: Have to drill new mounting holes

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

good enough for the money. I just gotta buy everything from crutchfield from now on. but I sure wish they had 4x6 and 6.5 components that could really handle serious power. I have these hooked up to a Pioneer DEH-X8500BH not an amp and the sound quality at high volume suffers. I am guessing it's probably the deck more than the speakers. I like em enough to not gripe about them, but I wouldn't buy them again.

Pros: inexpensive

Cons: no power handling

Good replacement for factory speakers

2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these to replace the again rear factory speakers on my 2000 Chevy Silverado extended cap. While these are not going to turn any heads, the sound quality is good, and it is nice to hear bass again. Installation was easy enough; I only had to drill four holes to mount the speakers. One of the mounting clips was broken, so I had to improvise a little, but in the end I have sound at least as good if not better than when the truck was new for a good price.

Pros: Price, fit factory cutouts, good sound quality compared to factory speakers.

Cons: One of the attachment clips was broken, instructions were a bit sparse.

Large magnets that produce nothing special

Pros: easy install

Cons: The bass is so muffled by the treble that it is hardly noticeable. Even changing settings on radio barely makes them beat. Had 1 good and 1 blown factory speaker that sounded far superior than these 2 new.

This speaker blew me away when I installed it in my brothers single cab silverado. The jump from stock to this mtx speaker was wonderful. The mids and highs are equally as good as the polk dxi651 speakers we also installed. Can't beat the price either.

Pros: Good mids and highs

Cons: Lacking big time on bass

1993 Nissan Sentra
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall, it is hard to go wrong with a set of speakers at this price point. Still, I am just a little disappointed in these. They do their job,and seem to be of decent quality. But they certainly aren't anything worth getting too excited about.

I put these in because we may be selling the car soon and I wanted to take out my polk 6 and 1/2s. The polks are considerably louder than these and definitely have better sound, which is to be expected considering the large price and speaker size difference in them. I wasn't expecting good sound quality out of these, but I at least expected them to be somewhat loud in order to fill out the sound, which they weren't. I still have polks in the rear deck until i replace them with something cheap like this before I sell it, and the polks just completely overpower the mtx speakers. So if you are getting these, be sure to pair them with a speaker in the same price range.

Also, I believe that the size of these is an inherent problem of the speaker not being loud. It is hard to make such a small speaker sound very good, especially at this price.

If you need a set of speakers to put into a car you are going to get rid of, then buy these. But if you are looking for good speakers to go into a car you are driving everyday, then I would spend a little bit more money. It would be worth it. I have had good luck with JBL's and Alpine's lower end speakers, and would definitely recommend them.

Pros: PRICE! - Build Quality is pretty good considering the price

Cons: Loudness

They sounded good but didn't fit my 1993 Chevy S-10 truck. They are much deeper than the stock speakers and they have a much bigger magnet. There wasn't enough room in the cavity for these speakers. Bummer! However, Crutchfield gave me a full refund for the speakers and the shipping.

Woofer Cones: The MTX Terminator series speakers feature durable and rigid polypropylene woofer cones. Polypropylene is also resistant to the moisture and temperature extremes found in automotive applications.

Tweeters: Each speaker features a 1/2" Mylar dome tweeter.

Mounting: The TN462 fits many standard 4x6 applications, but does not fit metric 4x6 applications. (Metric 4x6 typically found in European ars.)

Warranty: Although the speaker reviewed and measured (taken from our first shipment) included information indicating a 1 year warranty, MTX recently changed to a 5-Year Prorated Warranty with the following terms:

  • Years 1-2: Products found to be defective in materials or workmanship during the first two years will be, at Mitek's option, repaired or replaced by Mitek at no charge. The warranty period does not renew, but continues on from the original date of purchase.
  • Years 3-5: The purchase price of an item which becomes defective after the first two years and prior to the end of the warranty period will be prorated and credited toward the purchase of a new MTX product. The amount of proration is determined by dividing the original purchase price by the number of months in the warranty period (60), then multiplying the result by the number of months remaining in the warranty period.
