Step up your sound

If you're looking for a big upgrade in sound without a huge outlay of cash, take a look at the MTX Terminator line of car speakers. You'll be amazed at how much better your music sounds once you've replaced your burned-out factory speakers with a set of these Terminators. And they're protected by MTX's unique 5-year warranty.

Impressive performance and value

MTX's TN573 5"x7" full-range speakers will take your in-car audio experience to the next level, whether they're powered by a factory radio, an aftermarket car stereo, or a small amp. Each speaker sports a durable polypropylene woofer, a 1/2" Mylar tweeter, and a 3/8" Mylar tweeter, and they'll handle up to 55 watts RMS power. Grilles are not included — factory grilles are appropriate for most installations.

Product Highlights:

  • 5"x7" 3-way car speakers (pair)
  • polypropylene woofer cone
  • 1/2" Mylar tweeter and 3/8" Mylar tweeter
  • frequency response: 46-20,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 87.8 dB
  • RMS power: 2-55 watts (110 watts peak)
  • top-mount depth: 2-3/8"
  • cut-out diameter: 4.96" x 7.2"
  • warranty: 5 years (free repair or replacement for 2 years; prorated replacement for years 3 through 5)
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Why replace your car's original speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

Not the best fitting, but pretty close. They lack a big bass response, but then again, they should lack in that area- a sub would be recommended for even a wannabe enthusiast. Bought a second pair...may do another vehicle in these as an effective and economical upgrade from factory.

Pros: Good all around performance.

Cons: You'll need subs if you want to thump.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall good sound separations, hands above the stock speakers...the bass isn't all that strong or distinct, but i blame that on the stock bare bones radio. the instalation is pretty easy, but on my vehicle 06 F150, i had to remove the side mounting tabs, easy with diagonal cutters.

Pros: Good sound, good separation of treble, mid range and bass, mostly easy mount.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I ordered these to replace the OEM speakers in our 2001 Ford F150. Online ordering was easy and fast. Product was delivered within 3 days to my door and packaged well. I really like the detailed install instructions that Crutchfield provides as well as the correct adpater plugs that were added to the order at no additional cost.

Following the installation guide, I was able to install all four speakers in under an hour! The improved sound was noticeable and was exactly what I was hoping for.

The only negative was the fit wasn't exact for my vehicle and I could only mount two of the four screws due to bad alignment. I'm sure this is more a problem with the vehicle than the speakers themselves but should be noted.

All in all, a good value for the price and the service was great!

Pros: Easy online ordering Fast shipping Instruction sheet Value

Cons: Fitment not precise

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For the price (good), these speakers sound very good. I have an old (2003) truck and did not know if they would fit or not. A few minutes chatting with Crutchfield & they had a solution. The speakers fit perfectly. I might have gotten them cheaper (maybe) somewhere else, but I would not have gotten the service and that is important to me.

Pros: Sound good. Fit exactly.

Average sound, poor fit.

Written by: Alex from Chelmsford, MA on July 22, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Biggest problem is that these speakers were listed as fitting my 1993 RX7, however that is partially true. While the speaker itself fits, I could only align (barely!) 2 of the 4 mounting points with the locations on the car. I did not get a chance to test the setup too much but the speakers did sound a little weak...perhaps they were just too new however I will be left wondering whether the "precarious" attachment may be contributing to poor sound.

Pros: Inexpensive, OK sound for now.

Cons: Does not fit the car appropriately.

Purchased the MTX speakers for front doors, as my OEM 13 year old speakers were shot. Sound was OK with these speakers, however after about 4 hours of listening, they sounded blown. Strictly listening to FM radio, with people and pets in vehicle, so they were not cranked!!!!!

Pros: Price. And good experience with MTX home speakers in years past.

Cons: One of the speakers failed in 2 Days.

I replaced the stock system in my Mazda 626 with a new head, rear speakers and THESE MTX speakers in the front. WOW! What a difference! If you are expecting the sound of a 12" subwoofer, you will not get it. BUT... These little speakers really rock! The price had me skeptical, but I am sold on the sound. Tight bass to pretty high volumes, smooth midrange and crisp highs. HUGE improvement over the factory system!

Pros: Low price, clean sound, came with wires.

Cons: The holes did not exactly line up with the manufactures.

Picked these nice speakers up for my old Mazda pickup. No more rattling from blown speakers! Easy installation instructions and great sound for an economy speaker - both bass and treble.

Cons: As noted by another, speaker holes were off by a little, but nothing that a few self tapping screws won't fix!

Great sounding speaker. 100% upgrade from the factory door speakers. Very clear sounding and plenty of bass. Awesome value also. I have never owned MTX equipment before but strongly recommend these for anyone. Pro-Sound Installer or inexperienced novice will enjoy. Installed in 2012 Ford E-Series 1 ton van.

Pros: Actually quite tight on the bass and not thin sounding. Highs sound great and not overpowering or squeaky.

Cons: 5×7 holes don't exactly match up. Off by about a 1/16". But not really a con to me.

Woofer Cones: The MTX Terminator series speakers feature durable and rigid polypropylene woofer cones. Polypropylene is also resistant to the moisture and temperature extremes found in automotive applications.

Tweeters: Each speaker features 1/2" and 3/8" Mylar dome tweeters.

Mounting Applications: MTX describes this speaker as a 5x7, but it also fits many 6x8 applications. Please check the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector to confirm fit.

Warranty: Although the speaker reviewed and measured (taken from our first shipment) included information indicating a 1 year warranty, MTX recently changed to a 5-Year Prorated Warranty with the following terms:

  • Years 1-2: Products found to be defective in materials or workmanship during the first two years will be, at Mitek's option, repaired or replaced by Mitek at no charge. The warranty period does not renew, but continues on from the original date of purchase.
  • Years 3-5: The purchase price of an item which becomes defective after the first two years and prior to the end of the warranty period will be prorated and credited toward the purchase of a new MTX product. The amount of proration is determined by dividing the original purchase price by the number of months in the warranty period (60), then multiplying the result by the number of months remaining in the warranty period.
