About the Crux SOCGM-17B Wiring Interface

Bob Bihlmayer

Add a new radio

Installing a new car stereo can often mean losing your GM vehicle's factory warning chimes and bypassing your Bose system. Crux's SOCGM-17B wiring interface solves this problem, allowing you to install a new receiver while retaining the safety chimes and the standard Bose amplifier. The interface does not support the Y-91 digital Bose systems found in the Escalade and Hummer, and does not retain OnStar or steering wheel audio controls.

Product highlights:

  • connect a new car stereo in select 2000-up GM Class II vehicles
  • retain safety warning chimes
  • retains factory Bose system
  • warranty: 1 year
  • MFR # SOCGM-17B

What's in the box:

  • Radio replacement interface
  • Wiring harness
  • Bose adapter (pre-installed to wiring harness)
  • Installation Instructions

Features

Radio Replacement Interface: The CRUX SOCGM-17B radio replacement interface retains select factory features in General Motors Class II vehicles when replacing your factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. The CRUX SOCGM-17B retains the following factory feature set.

  • Bose Amplifier (not compatible with GM's Premium Digital Bose Y-91 amplifier system)
  • 12 Volt Accessory output (3A max)
  • RAP (Retained Accessory Power) - keeps the radio powered after the key is off, until the driver door is opened or the OEM timer ends; whichever happens first
  • Illumination Output (250mA max)
  • Retains safety & warning chimes (non-adjustable)
Note: This interface does not support steering wheel control or OnStar.

I purchased a standard one piece harness for my 05 silverado 1500 w/Bose and when I turn my truck on there is no power to the radio. Will this piece fix this problem? Or do I need to bypass another wire afterword?

Q
Does this work with steering wheel controls as well as the Bose system?

A
The ability to retain steering wheel controls with aftermarket receivers will be determined by the receiver you are using and the vehicle you have. For full information on this type of integration (including the parts you will need) please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Q
How is this installed? There seems to be a lot of extra wires. How does this harness fit-up to the Pioneer radio connector in the back of the radio? I got instructions for installing a radio into the dash but nothing for this wiring interface.

Q
is this the same thing as a harness?

A
That's it, there is a wire that calls to be soldered in, I used an inline splitter and it seems to be working so far.
stuart  Jul 20, 2015
A
Yes it is a harness. It is a harness designed specifically to work with your car/truck to not only connect your new stereo to your factory wiring but to keep the factory door chimes etc. The black box you see provides the source for the new chime.
