Alexander H.

The backup cam just for you

Designed specifically for select 2011-up Chrysler and Dodge vehicles, this Crux RVCCH-75EC rear-view camera system allows you to integrate backup video into your Uconnect radio with an 8.4" screen. And no one will even notice, because the tiny rear-view camera is made to fit in the center brake light in your rear gate. The package includes the CH-75E rear-view camera, an interface and harness that connect to the factory radio, and a power/signal cable that you'll route from the camera to the front of your car.

Once installed, you'll see a generous, well-lit picture of what's behind you, with a 170-degree wide view and video capture down to 0.2 Lux for night driving. Crux also gives you the option to enable on-screen parking assist lines so you can gauge distance more easily.

NOTE: The Crux RVCCH-75EC backup camera system is only compatible with the Uconnect radio with 8.4” screen. Installation of the system will require you to drill a small hole in your center brake light in order to fit the camera into place (instructions are included).

Installing this camera yourself? Here's what you should know.

What does it do? Unless otherwise noted, a backup camera is only intended for use backing up your vehicle. (If you require a front-view or constant rear-view camera, check for that capability.)

What tools and supplies will I need? A panel tool, a wire cutter/stripper, a soldering iron, and a rosin-core solder with heat shrink tubing are recommended, along with whatever tools are needed to remove the radio from the dash.

How much wiring is required? Wiring instructions vary from camera to camera. Some cameras have power wiring that can only be connected near the radio. Others let you power the camera at compatible reverse lights. In all cases, the camera must be wired for power and ground, the camera's video output must be connected to the radio/monitor, and the radio/monitor must be connected to a reverse trigger in your vehicle. Some radio replacement interfaces supply a reverse trigger wire for the radio -- using that wire to power your camera will damage the interface.

Will the included video cable be long enough? You'll need to route the camera's video cable from its mounting location outside your vehicle into your vehicle's cabin and all the way to the screen in the dash. This often requires drilling a small hole in your vehicle or filing some metal and or plastic. You'll also need to estimate the length of cable needed to run from the camera to the dash, which will not be a straight shot. Each camera's cable length is listed.

Note: A rear-view camera provides an additional view when reversing your vehicle. It is intended to be used in conjuction with your rear- and side-view mirrors to give a fuller picture of what's behind you. It is not intended as a replacement for your mirrors.

Product Research

Features

Sightline Series Rear-View Camera System: The Sightline series RVCCH-75E rear-view camera system by Crux has been specifically designed for select 2011-2016 Dodge & Chrysler vehicles that are equipped with a U-Connect factory radio. Now you can use your vehicle's factory radio to see what's behind you when backing up. The RVCCH-75E comes with an interface module and the necessary harnesses and cables to connect the rear-view camera to your vehicle's factory system.

Note: The RVCCH75-E rear-view camera is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rear-view camera when backing-up. In addition to using the rear-view camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.

Vehicle Compatibility: The Sightline series RVCCH-75E rear-view camera system is compatible with the following 2011-2016 Dodge & Chrysler vehicles that feature a U-Connect factory radio with a 8.4" screen (as of 3/27/15).

Make Model Year
Chrysler 300 2011-2014
Dodge Charger 2011-2014
Journey 2011-2016

Notes:

  • Will not work with vehicles that have heated seats or heated steering wheel.
  • Will not work with Unconnect radio's that come with factory Carplay or Android Auto.
  • Will not work with 2015 Chrysler 300 without a separate CD slot.

Automatic Rear-View Switching: The RVCCH-75E features automatic rear-view switching. This means that when you place your vehicle in reverse gear, your factory radio's monitor will automatically switch over to the rear-view camera so you can see what's behind you immediately.

Park Assist Lines: The rear-view camera provides parking assist lines on the screen of your vehicle's in-dash factory radio. These parking lines are there to assist you when backing up into a parking space. There are two vertical lines which help you judge the left and right edges of the parking space and your vehicle. There are also 3 color-coded horizontal lines that are used to distinguish how close you are getting to the end of the parking spot - Yellow (Clear), Purple (Getting Close), Red (Very Close).

Flush Mount Design: You will need to drill a 18.5mm (5/8") hole in your vehicle's third brake light located on the trunk lid using the supplied hole saw drill-bit (drill not included). The rear-view camera mounts flush in this opening and features four spring clips to hold it in place.

Power/Ground & Signal Connections: The rear-view camera features an attached 19" power/signal cable which plugs into the included 20' composite video cable and 46" power/ground cable. The 20' composite video cable then connects to the included 13" vehicle/video harness, while the 46" power/ground cable must be hardwired to your vehicle's electrical system. There is a red lead on the 20' composite video cable that also needs to be hardwired to the the white lead on the included 9" vehicle/interface harness. The vehicle/video harness and vehicle/interface harness plug into the factory 22-pin connectors behind the factory radio, as well as plug into the rear-view interface module mounted behind the factory radio.

Q
On a 2014 Challenger stx, if I buy and install the rear camera kit, what will happen with the current parking system (works with 4 sensors). Will this continue working or does it deactivate automatically, what will happen?

A
The Crux RVCCH-75EC Backup camera system is not compatible with your 2014 Challenger, Raul. The system is compatible with select Dodge & Chrysler vehicles that feature a U-Connect factory radio with an 8.4" screen. The system is compatible with Chrysler 300 2011-2014, Dodge Charger 2011-2014, and Dodge Journey 2011-2016.

Q
This is plug and play on a 2016 dodge journey? Other then drilling into hatch.
keith  Apr 14, 2021

A
On a 2015 it was pretty straight forward. You have to run power from the harness back to the camera. The reverse lights have a lower voltage which won't turn the camera on. The image is great. I ran the wiring along the molding at the head liner, down the "A" pillar and behind the glove box.

Q
Will this work with a factory camera, instead of using the one that comes with the kit? I wanted to buy an oem third brake light with built in backup camera for my 300.
luis  Dec 28, 2019

A
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

Q
Do I have to splice any wires to connect this to a 2013 Dodge Charger with a 8.4" Uconnect screen?
punishment718  Jan 28, 2018

A
You will need to tap a factory wire for the ground connection. You can view the manual that comes with the camera by clicking the link for it under the "What's in the Box" heading on the camera's main webpage.

Q
Where does this mount on a 2015+ Dodge Charger? 3rd brake light is in the rear window so that won't work as a mount location like older Chargers.
clovelace  Dec 13, 2017

A
The Crux RVCCH-75EC camera is recommended for installation in select Dodge Charger models from 2011-2015; and the installation may not be applicable to newer Charger models. For more details on installation in your specific Charger, please contact an Advisor directly by phone (888.955.6000) or online chat. Thanks!
