The backup cam just for you

Designed specifically for select 2012-up Toyota vehicles, this Crux RVCTY-71 rear-view camera system allows you to integrate backup video into your factory radio. The package includes the rear-view camera, a harness that connect to the factory radio, and a cable that you'll route from the camera to the front of your car.

Once installed, you'll see a generous, well-lit picture of what's behind you, with a 170-degree wide view and video capture down to 0.2 Lux for night driving. Crux also gives you the option to enable on-screen parking assist lines so you can gauge distance more easily.

Note: This camera is designed to hang upside down for proper picture orientation. If you haven't cut a hole for mounting the camera yet, we recommend plugging the camera into the radio first to confirm how it should be installed.

Installing this camera yourself? Here's what you should know.

What does it do? Unless otherwise noted, a backup camera is only intended for use backing up your vehicle. (If you require a front-view or constant rear-view camera, check for that capability.)

What tools and supplies will I need? A panel tool, a wire cutter/stripper, a soldering iron, and a rosin-core solder with heat shrink tubing are recommended, along with whatever tools are needed to remove the radio from the dash.

How much wiring is required? Wiring instructions vary from camera to camera. Some cameras have power wiring that can only be connected near the radio. Others let you power the camera at compatible reverse lights. In all cases, the camera must be wired for power and ground, the camera's video output must be connected to the radio/monitor, and the radio/monitor must be connected to a reverse trigger in your vehicle. Some radio replacement interfaces supply a reverse trigger wire for the radio -- using that wire to power your camera will damage the interface.

Will the included video cable be long enough? You'll need to route the camera's video cable from its mounting location outside your vehicle into your vehicle's cabin and all the way to the screen in the dash. This often requires drilling a small hole in your vehicle or filing some metal and or plastic. You'll also need to estimate the length of cable needed to run from the camera to the dash, which will not be a straight shot. Each camera's cable length is listed.

Product Research

Features

Sightline Series Rear-View Camera: The Sightline series RVCTY-71 rear-view camera by Crux has been specifically designed for select 2012-2014 Toyota vehicles that feature a factory in-dash radio with integrated video monitor. Now you can use your vehicle's factory radio to see what's behind you when backing up. The RVCTY-71 comes with the necessary harnesses and cables to connect the rear-view camera to your Toyota vehicle's factory system.

  • The RVCTY-71 can also be used with an aftermarket radio that features a composite video camera input. In this case, you would not use the included T-harness.
  • Rear-view cameras are meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rear-view camera when backing-up. In addition to using the rear-view camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.

Vehicle Compatibility: The Sightline series RVCTY-71 rear-view camera is compatible with the following 2012-2014 Toyota vehicles that feature a factory radio with integrated video monitor. Please enter you vehicle information here to confirm compatibility.

Make Model Year
Toyota Camry 2012-2014
Prius 2012-2014
Venza 2012-2014

Automatic Rear-View Switching: The RVCTY-71 features automatic rear-view switching. This means that when you place your vehicle in reverse gear, your factory radio's monitor will automatically switch over to the rear-view camera so you can see what's behind you immediately. There are no hardwire connections to make for this feature, the reverse wire is integrated in to the included plug-in vehicle harness.

Park Assist Lines: The rear-view camera provides parking assist lines on the screen of your vehicle's in-dash factory radio. These parking lines are there to assist you when backing up into a parking space. There are two vertical lines which help you judge the left and right edges of the parking space and your vehicle. There are also 3 color-coded horizontal lines that are used to distinguish how close you are getting to the end of the parking spot - Yellow (Clear), Purple (Getting Close), Red (Very Close). The park assist lines can be removed (see instructions).

Integrated Mounting Collar: You will need to drill a 18.5mm (5/8") hole in your vehicle's rear exterior panel using the supplied hole saw drill-bit (drill not included). The rear-view camera mounts in this opening and features a threaded mounting collar which holds the camera in place. There is also a self-adhesive double-side weather strip which mounts between the vehicle and the camera to protect against any water leaks.

Power/Ground & Signal Connections: The rear-view camera features an attached 27.5' power/video cable which plugs into the included 20" power/signal cable via a proprietary connector. The 20' power/video cable then plugs and hardwires into the included 12" T-harness via composite video and power/ground wire leads. The T-harness then plugs into the 16-pin port on the back of your factory radio; you will need to remove the existing 16-pin factory harness from the radio and plug in the RVCTY-71's T-harness in between the factory radio harness and the radio's 16-pin plug.

Is it compatible with 2015 Prius C with NAV Toyota Head unit?
joseph  Oct 07, 2022

A
Greetings Joseph, and thank you for your question. The model in question RVCTY-71 is not compatible with your 2015 Prius, you would be needing the RVCT-71L for your vehicle.

Q
Will the Crux RVCTY-71 Backup Camera System work in my 2014 Camry LE hybrid?
jim  Jun 04, 2022
1 answer
A
Our info shows that this Crux RVCTY-71 is compatible with the 14 Camry Hybrid, all radio trim levels. Keep in mind you will need to drill a 18.5mm (5/8") hole in your vehicle's rear exterior panel using the supplied hole saw drill-bit (drill not included). This is only rated for use with the factory Toyota radio, but could be used with an aftermarket radio too if you upgraded in the future. No worries!

I believe you are asking if some of these cameras come as a package with a replacement rear view mirror. If you are, then this link will take to you that list: https://www.crutchfield.com/g_436850/Rear-view-Mirrors.html?tp=66448#&nvpair=AG_Type|FFWith_Backup_Cam If this is not what you are shopping for, then I recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 for help getting a personal recommendation on gear

I'm not sure about a mirror option. The great thing about this system was it was plug and play. I plugged it into my 2014 Toyota Camry's touch audio system, ran the wiring to the rear of the car, installed the camera and it works like factory. It's Awesome!

I am not sure , I use it on factory unit.
anil  Jul 31, 2020
A
Yes. As long as the unit has a video port. You will be good to go. The only thing else you need is to tap into the reverse switch light so it goes on and off when in reverse. They have wiring harness that make it easy. I would definitely recommend going with the harness kits they have.

Q
Did anyone have to splice and wires to get the camera to work? Because i followed the instructions to the "T". But after everything i still have 1 red wire and black wire coming off the camera. A yellow and black wire coming off the radio portion. WIth no instructions on what to do other than connecting the 16pin adpater.

Q
Does the camera get power from the headunit or do I need to run 12v for it?
marc  Mar 29, 2019

A
Powered from the unit.
michael  Mar 29, 2019
A
It gets power by connecting to the reverse lights, I believe. A wire is run to the head unit to transmit the camera signal. Thus, that is a factor.
wes  Mar 29, 2019
A
Power comes from the radio circuit when it placed into reverse
maurice  Mar 29, 2019

It was very simple plug and play. 2013 Camry.

My Corolla has a "57056" written on the stereo. Does this work with that particular stereo/screen?
luke robert  Nov 08, 2018
1 answer
A
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

Q
will this work on a 2017 nissan titan sv?
jarrod  May 13, 2018
1 answer
A
It does not. Right now, we don't have a backup camera to add on to the stock radio in that pickup. But that might change with time. You might check back in a bit with an advisor on 1-800-324-9695 to see if we have gotten a camera for it. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101

brittney  May 07, 2018

I don't know what kind of auto you installed the kit into, but on the 2012 Toyota that I have installed it had the lines when I powered up the camera.
maurice  May 06, 2018
A
I had my camera installed by a professional and I do have parking assistance lines. I was told that there is a wire that must be connected during installation to make the lines display. As far as I know all of the necessary wiring came with the camera.
dennis g  May 05, 2018
A
i don't think so. There are lines built in to the view and it don't think they can be altered. I mounted my camera in the center of the trunk lid instead of off to the side like the directions say and that way you can kinda use the lines to center up in your parking spot.
markus  May 05, 2018
Q
can i install this in a Toyota corolla 2013? maybe with an adapter?
chris  Sep 15, 2017

A
For additional details on fit or installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on if this will fit and what you will need for an installation in your vehicle.

Q
do you have to drill a hole?
devin  Jul 27, 2017
7 answers
A
This is a hard question to answer, but it is a yes and a no, depending on your level of DIY experience and patience. I took the plastic bezel off the trunk, drilled a hole in the direct center to mount the camera in a more centralized location, found an existing hole that a plastic plug was in directly behind the Toyota symbol, drilled a hole through that to route the wire through and routed the cable to the front following the rest of the directions and YouTube videos. I find that anytime you drill through factory sheet metal you'll anger the rust gods. I hope that this answer helps.
thomas  Aug 04, 2017
A
Yes!!! you do they send you the tool to do it very easy.
jose  Jul 29, 2017
A
Yes, drill a hole on the plastic trim piece the camera mounts on. Honestly there's good videos on YouTube that will show you how to mount the camera and how to take your dash apart to connect the camera to your stereo. That's how I did it.
markus  Jul 29, 2017
A
Yes, you have to drill a hole at the center of the lip panel using the hole saw that is provided with the kit to mount the camera. If I remember correctly, I also had to drill a small hole for the wires thru the the trunk behind the lip panel.
jane  Jul 28, 2017
A
Yes but it was very easy.
ryan  Jul 28, 2017
A
Yes
gregory  Jul 28, 2017

I did have to drill a hole, for the camera, in my 2012 Prius C. I drilled the hole in the plastic trim that goes above the license plate. This was the same location of the OEM camera on my 2016 model.
maurice  Jul 28, 2017
Q
Is there wire cutting involved?
kelvin  Mar 23, 2017
1 answer
A
This will depend largely on your vehicle. For details on installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on what you will need for an installation.
