The backup cam just for you

Designed specifically for select 2012-13 Toyota Tacoma vehicles, this Crux RVCTY-71C rear-view camera system allows you to integrate backup video into your factory radio. The package includes the rear-view camera and a harness that connects to your factory radio.

Once installed, you'll see a generous, well-lit picture of what's behind you, with a 170-degree wide view and video capture down to 0.2 Lux for night driving. Crux also gives you the option to enable on-screen parking assist lines so you can gauge distance more easily.

Note: This camera is designed to hang upside down for proper picture orientation. If you haven't cut a hole for mounting the camera yet, we recommend plugging the camera into the radio first to confirm how it should be installed.

Installing this camera yourself? Here's what you should know.

What does it do? Unless otherwise noted, a backup camera is only intended for use backing up your vehicle. (If you require a front-view or constant rear-view camera, check for that capability.)

What tools and supplies will I need? A panel tool, a wire cutter/stripper, a soldering iron, and a rosin-core solder with heat shrink tubing are recommended, along with whatever tools are needed to remove the radio from the dash.

How much wiring is required? Wiring instructions vary from camera to camera. Some cameras have power wiring that can only be connected near the radio. Others let you power the camera at compatible reverse lights. In all cases, the camera must be wired for power and ground, the camera's video output must be connected to the radio/monitor, and the radio/monitor must be connected to a reverse trigger in your vehicle. Some radio replacement interfaces supply a reverse trigger wire for the radio -- using that wire to power your camera will damage the interface.

Will the included video cable be long enough? You'll need to route the camera's video cable from its mounting location outside your vehicle into your vehicle's cabin and all the way to the screen in the dash. This often requires drilling a small hole in your vehicle or filing some metal and or plastic. You'll also need to estimate the length of cable needed to run from the camera to the dash, which will not be a straight shot. Each camera's cable length is listed.

Product Research

Features

Sightline Series Rear-View Camera: The Sightline series RVCTY-71c rear-view camera by Crux has been specifically designed for the 2012-2013 Toyota Tacoma that features a factory in-dash radio with integrated video monitor. Now you can use your vehicle's factory radio to see what's behind you when backing up. The RVCTY-71c comes with the necessary harnesses and cables to connect the rear-view camera to your Toyota vehicle's factory system.

Notes:
  • The RVCTY-71c rear-view camera is NOT compatible with aftermarket radios. It will only work with a compatible factory radio.
  • The RVCTY-71c rear-view camera is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rear-view camera when backing-up. In addition to using the rear-view camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.

Vehicle Compatibility: The Sightline series RVCTY-71c rear-view camera is compatible with the following 2013 Toyota vehicles that feature a factory radio with integrated video monitor (as of 8/14/14).

Make Model Year
Toyota Tacoma 2012-2013

Automatic Rear-View Switching: The RVCTY-71c features automatic rear-view switching. This means that when you place your vehicle in reverse gear, your factory radio's monitor will automatically switch over to the rear-view camera so you can see what's behind you immediately. There are no hardwire connections to make for this feature, the reverse wire is integrated in to the included plug-in vehicle harness.

Park Assist Lines: The rear-view camera provides parking assist lines on the screen of your vehicle's in-dash factory radio. These parking lines are there to assist you when backing up into a parking space. There are two vertical lines which help you judge the left and right edges of the parking space and your vehicle. There are also 3 color-coded horizontal lines that are used to distinguish how close you are getting to the end of the parking spot - Yellow (Clear), Purple (Getting Close), Red (Very Close).

Integrated Mounting Collar: You will need to drill a 18.5mm (5/8") hole in your vehicle's tailgate (next to the handle) using the supplied hole saw drill-bit (drill not included). The rear-view camera mounts in this opening and features a threaded mounting collar which holds the camera in place. There is also a self-adhesive double-side weather strip which mounts between the vehicle and the camera to protect against any water leaks.

Power/Ground & Signal Connections: The rear-view camera features an attached 6' power/signal cable and includes a 22" extension harness which plug into each other. The extension harness then plugs into the pre-ran factory camera cable with a 4-pin connector in the tailgate of the vehicle. There is also a 5.5' T-harness which connects between the factory radio harness and the factory radio; this harness includes a 16-pin, 28-pin, 4-pin, and 15-pin connector.

Customer Q&A

2 questions already asked

Q
2013 Toyota Tacoma owner. I'm looking at replacing the factory head unit with a digital multimedia receiver. Two questions: 1. Can this camera replace the factory backup camera in the tailgate handle? 2. Can this camera input video into the new DMR, or does it have to feed the dedicated display in the rear view mirror?

A
The Crux RVCTY-71C Bacup Camera System is compatible with select 2012-2013 Toyota Tacoma's, Benjamin. This RVCTY-71C is only compatible with factory radios and would use the compatible factory radio with integrated video monitor to display the backup camera image. To achieve your goals with an aftermarket radio, the Crux CTY-02T Tailgate handle camera is a better choice. The CTY-02T works with any aftermarket radio with a composite rear camera input feature and is compatible with 2006-15 Toyota Tacoma's. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_249CTY02T/Crux-CTY-02T.html
