Installing an aftermarket receiver in many late model GM vehicles means losing the chime that warns the door is open, along with audible safety warnings. The Crux SOCGM-17 GM Class II Data Bus interface lets you replace the factory receiver in these vehicles and keep the door chime and all audible safety warnings.

Connect the SOCGM-17 to the wiring harness on your new car stereo, mount the module in a convenient location, and plug it into the existing factory plug. Get the great sound you want, and keep all important safety features intact. This interface does not work with GM's Premium Bose® systems or Onstar®, and it won't allow you to keep your factory steering wheel audio controls. It will work with the standard Bose system. Warranty: 1 year.

Important Note: If you do not use an interface like this when you replace your factory radio, you will disable the audible warning system in your vehicle. Crutchfield cannot provide a free wiring harness for your vehicle, and we strongly recommend that you use the recommended interface when replacing this vehicle's factory radio. Failure to do so may result in serious injury or death.

Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts — please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so, then check here for a list of parts. You can also call an Advisor for more information.

Highlights:

  • lets you install an aftermarket receiver in late model GM vehicles without losing the door chime and audible safety warnings
  • will not work with factory steering wheel controls, Bose® or OnStar® systems
  • dimensions: 3-7/16"W x 1-1/16"H x 2-7/8"D
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Features

Overview: The CRUX SOCGM-17 radio replacement interface retains factory featured safety & warning chimes in General Motors Class II vehicles when replacing your factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. The CRUX SOCGM-17 retains the following factory feature set.

  • Illumination Output (2A. max)
  • Telephone Negative Mute Trigger (Input)
  • Low Voltage (Battery Run-Down Protection)
  • Retains safety & warning chimes
Note: This interface does not support GM's Premium Bose System (Y-91 system), steering wheel control, or OnStar.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

easy install, just plug and go. attached to back of cavity. No problems. The version that I tossed out with the old Sony unit that was in my SUV when I bought it was just an open circuit board wrapped in electrical tape! It had also shorted out, which gave me the opportunity to replace it with a Bluetooth enabled unit with iPod controls.

Pros: works as promised.

Cons: none.

Good Stuff

Written By Ryan, Southern Oregon on Saturday, June 21, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this product on a 2007 Chevy 2500hd Classic. Works well, the chime is loud enough for my taste. Maybe a little quieter than factory. Easy to install and easy to find a place to put it. On my truck I put it right behind the instrument cluster to the right side. Straight forward installation and I would highly recommend this product for any Chevy aftermarket stereo installation. Retained accessory power works great too.

Pros: Easy to install, enough harness length to put it in a good spot and loud enough for me. Works just as advertised.

Cons: Amp remote on wire is included in harness. No factory amp in my truck so I had to cut that wire and splice it to my head unit. No big deal though.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The first unit didn't work. Crutchfield sent a replacement. Didn't work either. Crutchfield then sent me an Axxess GMRC-01 for the same price. Come to find out, there was a hinky little problem with my factory harness with one of the pins being in the wrong location.

Pros: Crutchfield customer service and tech advisors.

Cons: Didn't work. However, it may very well be my trucks fault. Never heard it ding or anything. At least the GMRC-01 dinged.

Low sound levels

Written By Mike, Boise on Saturday, April 05, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Had to install this module so the vehicles alert system would still work. No mater where I put the speaker it is so quite I cannot hear it over the vehicle running. It is very quite... If there is another option that could be swapped in to make the sounds go through the speakers like the factory stereo did that would be more desirable.

Pros: Easy to install

Cons: Cant hear it!

Crutchfield response on Wednesday, April 09, 2014 Our tech support team contacted the customer to troubleshoot the situation and offer a different adapter.

Works but it's not very loud

Written By buckeyesuave, Somerset,ky on Wednesday, April 02, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It does work and that matters a lot but When I installed this in my trailblazer, The wires were not long enough to allow good placement so it is inside the dash and it is hard to hear sometimes. I wish I would have bought a better one.

Pros: It allowed me to install my new Alpine!

Cons: Short wires and its not very loud.

Does exactly what it says it does

Written By Brian B, Durham, NC on Friday, March 28, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is pretty easy to install; not really any more difficult to connect than a plain wiring harness. You basically connect it the same way. There's only two things I would change about this. I would make it a little smaller so it's easier to fit behind the receiver, and I would make it louder. The latter issue being more of an issue the the former, but it's still better than no sound at all.

Pros: Easy to install; no different than connecting any other wiring harness

Cons: A little difficult to get to fit behind the receiver; not all that loud

Pros: Simple install.

Exactly replaces the key warning system in my Chevy Silverado

Written By Travers, Newport News, VA on Monday, March 17, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The integration adaptor exactly replaces the key warning system of the 2004 Chevy truck. There is no difficulty with wiring or placement. Just snap a 6 wire harness into the small adaptor box and strap it to the new radio with 2 plastic slip ties. Takes 2 minutes.

Pros: Easy to install and an exact replacement for the OEM key warning system. Crutchfield sells it for 1/2 price. Check the price at other retailers and you will agree.

Cons: None!

this item just makes it so much easier to replace General Motors radios you are able to wire everything pretty much and your house or shop you don't have to wire it under the dash it's all taken care of before hand and you just plug in play definitely recommended this item if you have A General Motors or Chevy vehicle.

Pros: Everything about it makes the job easier!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This product made the install very easy and fast. I tucked it up behind the stereo so the chimes weren't as loud after reading other reviews about how loud it was. Perfect volume level, just enough to hear it. Having not to run the red power wire back to the fuse box or splice it in somewhere else makes it easy to install the radio.

Pros: Easy install, keeps warning chimes, red power wire for radio

Cons: that you need to have this, bad design of wiring harness from auto maker

It's unfortunate that Chevy made this adapter necessary. Nothing Crutchfield can do about that though. The install was stupid easy and it's working like a charm. The alarm sounds are slightly softer than factory, but I prefer it. The Crutchfield adviser was very helpful and knowledgeable.

Pros: Works Alarm tones are easily audible but soft and not shrieking

Cons: Only that it's a requirement

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought my wife a car stereo two years ago for Christmas. I had a heck of a time finding the right connectors needed because GM likes to run everything through the stereo. Her birthday was earlier this month and I needed to install that stereo. Crutchfield got me set up right! The adapter was easy to wire up to the stereo harness and it works like a charm! My wife is very happy and so am I. The quality is good, and the chime sounds just like the factory one.

Overpriced

Written By Dave P, Greencastle, IN on Monday, October 14, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a necessary item to retain warning chimes, and the manufacturer knows it, therefore keeps the price high and makes big profits.

Pros: Easy enough to install

Cons: Doesn't play though speakers so it's much quieter than the stock unit. Can barely hear if stereo is playing. Door chimes quit after a few seconds, factory unit kept on until you shut the door. You can't really call this a direct replacement for stock unit.

Unfortunately with a lot of GM cars this is a needed part. First I think this is crazy to pay this much for an adapter to be able to upgrade a stereo but a big thank you to Crutchfield for having it half off if bought with a stereo. That said, this item installs easily and without issue.

Cons: Price and it being a must have.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Easy enough to wire up. good instructions , Makes adding an aftermarket unit to a new vehicle just as easy as it was in the 80's while keeping all the functions working as they should .

Pros: Keeps the door chime chiming when it should, keeps the stereo on after key is removed until the, door is opened just like with stock unit did

Cons: Chime seems quieter than stock , may be the location where i placed the unit

CRUX SOCGM-17 Adaptor Works Great

Written By mbratch, Webster NY on Tuesday, September 10, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I own a 2004 Chevy Classic (Malibu). The CRUX SOCGM-17 integration adaptor installed very easily. I just attached the wires as I would on a normal adapter. All of the wires are properly color coded for the connection. The chimes on the adapter all work and at a volume perhaps slightly software than the factory chimes, but quite audible. The chime box has mounting holes for screws but there were a couple of "pockets" of space behind the stereo where I was able to just set it without having to mount it. Installation was very smooth and quick.

Pros: Very easy to adapt and install. Chimes work as desired and expected.

Cons: (None come to mind)

Works great. I have all my chimes and was very surprised at the sound considering the factory chime comes through the speakers. Very simple to install.

Pros: Easy to install. Doesn't sound cheap.

Cons: None so far.

2006 GMC Sierra Install

Written By FC, Columbia, SC on Monday, July 08, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced my factory GMC (without Onstar) double din with a IVE-W535HD. Wanted to keep my chimes for safety reasons. I have used many wiring harnesses over the years and was a bit skeptical looking at it online. Out the box, it looked like it was constructed well. Everything was soldered and shrink wrapped. The wires going to the speaker box seemed a bit short and I was afraid that the chime would be too faint installed behind the stereo and dash. I figured I could extend the wires and place the speaker box elsewhere if I had to. I installed the harness as normal and was able to point the speaker box toward the dash where light was coming through. NO PROBLEMS AT ALL! I can barely tell the difference and I have owned the truck for 7 years. I highly recommend this product. Having the chimes after an after market install is a huge safety feature!

Pros: Easy to install.

Cons: None

CRUX SOCGM-17 Factory Integration Adapter

Written By Gregory H., Crimora, Va on Friday, June 28, 2013

I used this item to install my new Sony Stereo in my Chevrolet Colorado. All was wired as directed and when I plugged it in to my harness and tried the chimes, FOOF and a bunch of smoke came out of the box. Crutchfield replaced it except I paid about more and got the metra gmrc 01. I am just glad it did not take out my trucks computer. Just F.Y. I, The Metra worked Great.

Pros: If it had not blown up, I would have most likely had no problem with it.

Cons: It blew up.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got this when I ordered my stereo from Crutchfield. I put this in an 09 Trailblazer. The instructions that came with it were easy to follow, and I had no problem hooking it up. When everything was installed, my chimes were still working though they will be coming through his box. Sitting in the vehicle, when I turn off the ignition and take out the key, the radio still runs til I open the door, just like the old one did.

Pros:

This adapter does exactly as advertised: provides the harness for plugging into an aftermarket receiver while retaining the warming chimes.

Pros: - Wiring harness makes receiver installation easy - Small enough to tuck inside the dashboard near the receiver

Easy Install

Written By MES, Montana on Saturday, May 04, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A good way to preserve the factory chime in your non-onstar GM vehicle. The install was straight forward & it worked just as it was supposed to.

Pros: Not too bulky to tuck in the dash cavity. The cost was less than that of other options.

Cons: The chime actually comes out of a speaker in the interface itself; not through the factory speakers. When tucked in the dash it is audible, but a little muffled.

Factory Interface

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The price was great, the installation into the wiring system was a snap but two things that kept this from being a 5. One was trying to find a place to mount this in the 2005 Chevy Colorado. I finally was able to place heavy duty velcro and mount it inside the lower part of the dash. The second was the chime is quiet which is not a big deal but some people may not like it or might not hear it.

Pros: Price and installing it into the factory wiring system.

Cons: A place to mount it and the chime was quiet
