About the CRUX SOCGM-17 Wiring Interface

John Pollard
Installing an aftermarket receiver in many late model GM vehicles means losing the chime that warns the door is open, along with audible safety warnings. The Crux SOCGM-17 GM Class II Data Bus interface lets you replace the factory receiver in these vehicles and keep the door chime and all audible safety warnings.

Connect the SOCGM-17 to the wiring harness on your new car stereo, mount the module in a convenient location, and plug it into the existing factory plug. Get the great sound you want, and keep all important safety features intact. This interface does not work with GM's Premium Bose® systems or Onstar®, and it won't allow you to keep your factory steering wheel audio controls. It will work with the standard Bose system. Warranty: 1 year.

Important Note: If you do not use an interface like this when you replace your factory radio, you will disable the audible warning system in your vehicle. Crutchfield cannot provide a free wiring harness for your vehicle, and we strongly recommend that you use the recommended interface when replacing this vehicle's factory radio. Failure to do so may result in serious injury or death.

  • Low Voltage (Battery Run-Down Protection)
  • Retains safety & warning chimes
Note: This interface does not support GM's Premium Bose System (Y-91 system), steering wheel control, or OnStar.

Q
does this box only affect the door chime? If i don't care about the chime will I even need this?
joseph  Oct 07, 2016
2 answers
A
Some vehicle security systems utilize the same box for sounds and alerts to the driver. Buy the box if it is called for by Crutchfied. They KNOW what they are doing.
tommy  Oct 10, 2016
A
It is only for the door chime and is needed to keep the sound since the chime plays through the speakers. If losing the chime isn't an issue you should be good without it.
dennis  Oct 07, 2016
Q
Is this the correct harness to hook and after market stereo up with out cutting into the factory harness?

When I used this wiring interface as part of the audio system that I installed in my daughter's car, the door chimes and audible warning system worked the same as with the factory installation.
leonard  Jun 02, 2015
A
My system does cut off when you cut off the engine and open the door. As long as the door is not open the system will continue to play when you cut the vehicle off.

Q
It is not 100% clear to me so I want to skip will this device allow you to retain the factory speakers? I plan on upgrading the speakers later, but in order to stagger my payments I just want to upgrade my head unit now. Thanks.

A
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

Q
The manual says this item has 3a max acc output. More than 3a will require a Bosch relay. How do I know if I need the relay? I am using this with a Kenwood double din DVD receiver.
jamey  Jul 14, 2014

A
I personally did not have to use a relay. I was able to follow the directions in the manual. I also was installing a basic alpine headunit rather than a DVD unit. Sorry I was not much help but I hope everything works out with little complications!
andrew  Jul 15, 2014
A
I have a pioneer DVD receiver and I don't need the extra relay. You should be just fine

Q
Does that mean ?? I turn on the ignition and the radio starts running..Or do I have to make a by-pass ignition wiring ?? I am kind of confused..,since I do not really care of bells and whistles what have you.. Thanks
metin  Mar 23, 2014

A
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The CRUX SOCGM-17 is going to tie the radio into the current factory configuration. This means that it will cover turning the radio on for when the car is turned on. You shouldn't have to bypass anything. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
kristina  Mar 25, 2014 (Staff)
Q
In the description it says it won't retain factory steering wheel controls, does that mean audio controls to the radio or any controls on the steering wheel period, including the cruise buttons?
eddie  Feb 19, 2014
1 answer
A
The ability to retain steering wheel controls with aftermarket receivers will be determined by the receiver you are using and the vehicle you have. For full information on this type of integration (including the parts you will need) please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
kristina  Feb 20, 2014 (Staff)
Q
Do you have to cut any factory wiring or does it all clip together?
ray  Jan 13, 2014
1 answer
A
This should connect directly to your factory harness. The bare wires will connect to the harness coming out of your new receiver. For full details on fit or installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details how this will fit and what you will need for an installation in your vehicle.
