About the CRUX SWRVW-52 Wiring Interface

Dave Delamere

Wire in a new radio

Crux's SWRVW-52 interface ensures that you can keep the steering wheel audio controls and the factory amplifier (if present) in your Volkswagen when you replace the factory radio. Once you connect this interface to the wires on your new stereo's wiring harness, you've covered the power, ground, and factory speaker connections for your new stereo.

You'll only be able to retain your steering wheel audio controls with a compatible car stereo made by Alpine, Boss, Blaupunkt, Clarion, Dual, Jensen, JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer, Sony or Soundstream. No other brands are currently compatible.

The SWRVW-52 interface also offers the reverse, illumination, and Vehicle Speed Sensor (V.S.S.) outputs that you'll need if you're installing a navigation receiver. The Crux interface is designed to work with the factory Volkswagen CAN-bus systems.

Note: This interface will retain steering wheel audio controls when used with compatible Alpine, Boss, Blaupunkt, Clarion, Dual, Jensen, JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer, Sony or Soundstream receivers.

Product Research

Features

Volkswagen Radio Replacement Interface: The CRUX SWRVW-52 is a radio replacement interface for select 2002-up Volkswagen vehicles (w/ CAN bus systems). It facilitates the integration of an aftermarket radio to enable retention of factory features when replacing a factory installed radio in select Volkswagen cars (with or without factory-installed amps). This interface is also pre-programmed for retention of steering wheel controls.

Compatibility: The CRUX SWRVW-52 is supported by the following 2002-up Volkswagen vehicles with CAN bus systems and non-amplified or amplified factory audio systems.

Make Model  Year
Volkswagen Beetle 2012-2013
CC 2009-2013
EOS 2006-2012
Golf 2002-2013
GTI 2006-2013
Jetta 2002-2013
Passat 2002-2013
Rabbit 2006-2011
Tiguan 2009-2013
Touareg 2004-2010

Steering Wheel Control Retention: The CRUX SWRVW-52 also features a steering wheel control output for Pioneer, Sony, Alpine, Clarion, Kenwood, JVC, Jensen, Dual/Axxera, Boss and other aftermarket head units. The steering wheel control output consists of a right-angle 3.5mm connector and a light blue/yellow wire (use the connection that your aftermarket head unit is fitted with). The SWRVW-52 interface module will work with any of the listed aftermarket head units, by setting its three dip-switches (see owner's manual for appropriate setting).

Note: The steering wheel control harness features two 4-pin connectors, two 3.5mm connectors (labeled Pioneer/Sony and Alpine/Clarion/Jensen/Dual/Boss), and one blue/yellow wire (labeled Kenwood/JVC). You will only plug in one of the 4-pin connectors to the interface module and one of the 3.5mm connectors or blue/yellow wire into your aftermarket head unit you are installing.

Navigation Outputs: The CRUX SWRVW-52 radio replacement interface module provides a VSS (vehicle speed sense) and a Reverse Gear output to make installing an aftermarket Navigation radio simpler and less time consuming.

Amp Turn-On: The CRUX SWRVW-52 provides an amplifier turn-on lead for your vehicle's factory amplifiers (if equipped).

RAP: In most vehicles your aftermarket head unit will continue to operate with the vehicle's RAP (Retained Accessory Power) system; the aftermarket radio will stay on until the key is fully removed from the ignition switch. However, in 2010-up vehicles with premium sound the RAP feature will not be retained; the radio will shut off when the key is turned off

Q
Good day. As I change the head only, will this CRUX SWRVW-52 Wiring Interface, support 1 2015 VW Passat?
de-wayne o.  Mar 01, 2023
1 answer
A
This CRUX SWRVW-52 is compatible with 2015 Volkswagen Passat De-Wayne, but only the 6 and 8-speaker standard audio setups. If you have the Fender Audio premium sound package originally this harness will not work. Check out this mock up package below for 6 and 8-speaker Passats, this would have everything you would need to change the radio to a Double-Din sized touchscreen unit. I hope this helps! https://www.crutchfield.com/I-rXYEc222/cart/EmailCart.aspx?emKey=3088797

Q
Will this retain my MDI display functions?
logan  Jan 08, 2021
1 answer
A
I suspect that your MDI display will still work but will no longer show radio data if it does now and recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to check your specific vehicle

Q
Will this work on a 2000 Jetta? The website says it will work (suggested accessory and "fits your car"), but the description indicates that it is for 2002 and up. I have a non-monsoon system but i do have steering wheel controls.
laurence  Jun 16, 2019

A
Hi Larry, thanks for your question. I have pulled up the info for your Jetta without the Monsoon System, and unfortunately the Crux SWRVW-52 is showing as a non-compatible option for your vehicle. Please chat with an Advisor online, or give us a call at 1-800-324-9695 for further information, and to go over the options we have for your vehicle.

Q
Will I need an additional adapter to connect to my car's factory Sirius radio antenna?
andrew  May 17, 2017
1 answer
A
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

Q
Has anyone used this with a 2004 Touareg with Navigation?
john  Jul 27, 2016
1 answer
A
I cannot see our records to know if anyone has actually bought it for that vehicle, but I know it is the only harness we offer for a 2004 VW Touareg that came with factory installed navigation. I hope that helps! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101
