About the Crux SWRTY-61J Wiring Interface

Bob Bihlmayer

Keep those factory options

Crux's SWRTY-61J interface ensures that you can keep the factory steering wheel controls and the factory JBL amplifier in your Toyota or Lexus when you install an aftermarket radio. Another plus — your Toyota's auxiliary input will still work with your new car stereo. Connect this interface to the wires on your new stereo's wiring harness, and you've covered the power, ground, and factory speaker connections for your new stereo.

You'll only be able to retain your steering wheel audio controls with a compatible car stereo made by Alpine, Clarion, Jensen, JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer, or Sony. No other brands are currently compatible. Check the Details tab to see if steering wheel audio controls are retained in your vehicle.

Note: The CRUX SWRTY-61J comes with two wiring harnesses; only one will be used based on your make, model, year of vehicle.

Factory JBL Amplifier: The CRUX SWRTY-61J retains your vehicle's factory JBL amplifier system (fading capability will be lost). There is a variable audio gain adjustment to match the levels of the aftermarket radio and factory amplifier.

Steering Wheel Control Compatible: The CRUX SWRTY-61J features a steering wheel control output for compatible aftermarket head units - including Pioneer, Sony, Jensen, Alpine, Clarion, Kenwood, JVC, and Blaupunkt. The steering wheel control output consists of a right-angle 3.5mm connector and a light blue/yellow wire (use the connection that your aftermarket head unit is fitted with). The SWRTY-61J interface module will work with any of the listed aftermarket head units, by setting its three dip-switches (see owner's manual for appropriate setting).

Note: The steering wheel control interface features two 4-pin connectors (labeled - "Pioneer/Sony" and "Alpine/Clarion/Kenwood/JVC"). You will only plug in one of these connectors to the interface module, based on the type aftermarket head unit you are installing.

Auxiliary Input Retention: For select vehicles, you get to keep the factory auxiliary (3.5mm) input. The included harness contains male stereo RCA connectors which plug into your aftermarket head unit's rear-panel Aux input. If your aftermarket head unit contains a 3.5mm Aux input, then you will need a female stereo RCA to male stereo minijack adapter cable (sold separately).

Backup Camera Retained: The CRUX SWRTY-61J will retain your vehicle's factory backup camera through your new aftermarket head unit's composite video backup camera input.

Wiring Harness: The included harness features the following wires which will need to be hardwired (solder or crimped) to your aftermarket head unit's wiring harness.

Q
Is this compatible with a Sienna 2006 XLE with the JBL sound system? I would like to keep the factory amplifier included in the JBL sound system.

A
Yes. This will work with the factory JBL sound system. However, I would recommend contacting an Advisor before placing your order to be sure you get all the install pieces you will need.

Enter an answer to thI had the same surging in my '04 Sienna, the second time I bugged the tech advisers about it, I was told I needed: Scosche SLC4 Line Output Converter, to alter the speaker signal to the factory pre-amp. (It was expressed shipped at no charge.) I think the pre-amp may need to be bypassed completely because I still don't like the mix, the balance and the surging, from the Sony head unit.is question.

I installed this on a 2005 4Runner. I haven't had any issues with a reduction in volume. I made sure to discconnect the mute wire before installation, because the OEM JVC system had an auto mute on it that deviated the volume based on speed.

I have a 2004 Tundra and after I installed a new head unit with all the interface controls the audio sound fades in and out, it is sort of like the power is surging. Crutchfield said I may have a speaker going bad but I have not been able to confirm if that is the case. The stock system never had that problem. It is more prominent with CD and iPod input, radio seems normal.

Let me know if it resolves your issue. Thanks

A
Yes, I purchased this unit for a 2004 Sienna in addition to a new radio. I noticed that audio would fade in/out randomly. If I squeezed the Crux SWRTY unit slightly, the audio would normalize. I called Crutchfield Support and told them about the issue. They shipped me a replacement immediately and I returned the defective one. The replacement worked and continues to work fine, over 3+ months. Hope this helps.
anastasio  Jan 30, 2015
A
Yes. Ever since I installed this unit. Audio sounds like it breaths in and out. Thanks
