Features

Phono (MM/MC) Preamp: The Pro-Ject Phono Box allows you to connect a turntable with either a MM (moving magnet) or MC (moving coil) cartridge to today's home receiver's and amplifier which do not offer a dedicated phono input. There is a button on the back of the unit which allows you to switch between MM or MC mode.

Metal Case: The Phono Box's metal case shields the electronics from vibration and electromagnetic interference.

Dual-Mono Circuitry: The Phono Box provides optimal channel separation through dual-mono circuitry and low-noise ICs.

RIAA Equalization: The Pro-Ject Phono Box provides amplification and RIAA equalization for both MM and MC cartridges.

RCA Connections: The Phono Box features gold-plated stereo RCA connections. A stereo RCA input connects your turntable, and a stereo RCA output connects your home receiver or amplifier. RCA cables sold separately.

Ground Terminal: The Phono Box also has a turntable ground, in case your turntable has a separate ground lead. This provides shielding to the tone-arm and the sensitive circuitry in the turntable.

Outboard Power Supply: The Pro-Ject Phono Box operates off of standard household AC current, using the supplied AC power adapter. The external power adapter is separate from the phono preamp to further improve sound quality.

  • Input: 100-240V~50/60Hz, 0.6A
  • Output: 15V - 500mA (18V)

Q
Will the project debut carbonevo work with the songs one wireless speakers?
roberto  Jan 15, 2023

A
The Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO would not be directly compatible with a Sonos One speaker.

Q
will this be better than the pre amp in my yamaha as 301 intigrated amp ?
arnold  Jan 02, 2021

A
Typically, the receiver's built in pre-amp is better overall as the signal only has to go through 1 device as opposed to 2. But not all receivers (and their preamps) are the same. with that said, you have a yamaha so it should be decent quality

I cannot say one or the other is better. I have no data to relate to that will determine that kind of outcome. What I will say is the pre-amp in your current amp and the Pro-Ject Phono Box may produce a different sound, if you understand what I am saying.
jason  Jan 02, 2021
A
Not sure but I would think that the integrated amp would be a better option.

Q
How does unit power on and off?

A
It just stays on - no need to turn on and off
alex  Nov 26, 2020
A
there is no switch to turn it on or off. once you plug in the power cord, it's considered on.

Q
Can this Pre Amp be used to connect a Music Hall USB 1 turntable directly to a powered sound bar? Thinking of hooking up to Kiplisch 48" sound bar. Would like to do away with current receiver.

It is technically possible. You should reach out to one of our advisors for more personalized help in exploring the required cables and such for this application. https://www.crutchfield.com/support/ContactUs.aspx

I would be happy to help, but I just don't know the answer to the customer's question. I the sound bar can accept line out from a receiver, I don't know of a reason that it would not accept line out from a preamp. But then maybe my unserstanding of sound bars is not current. best, Richard

Sounds possible. My turntable is connected to this amp, and then the amp connected to powered speakers. So similar, but not the same

I have a shelf system and would like to add a turntable. M/m, m/c I don't know which to get. Or even DC. Can you help?

wish i could help, steve. but i am not that much of an audio techie. i think i just followed the advice of the crutchfield tech advisory team.

I would suggest the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon (dc). This is an excellent turntable and is a newer model of mine. The dc aspect removes the need of a speed box to stabilize wow and flutter (variances in speed during playback). M/c and m/m refer to your cartridge having either a moving coil or moving magnet. This turntable comes with a pre mounted Ortofon 2m Red moving magnet cartridge. If your system does not have a phono input you'll also need a preamp. Pro-Ject's Phono Box DC is what I use and it's able to be switched from m/c or m/m. Hope this helps.

A
The Pro-Ject Phono Box DC is a powered pre-amp that works excellently via an amplifier's "Aux" input. Should be no problem for a bookshelf stereo.
