Features

Phono (MM/MC) Preamp: The Pro-Ject Phono Box USB allows you to connect a turntable with either a MM (moving magnet) or MC (moving coil) cartridge to today's home receiver's and amplifier which do not offer a dedicated phono input. There is a button on the back of the unit which allows you to switch between MM or MC mode.

Metal Case: The Phono Box USB's metal case shields the electronics from vibration and electromagnetic interference.

Dual-Mono Circuitry: The Phono Box USB provides optimal channel separation through dual-mono circuitry and low-noise ICs.

RIAA Equalization: The Pro-Ject Phono Box USB provides amplification and RIAA equalization for both MM and MC cartridges.

RCA Connections: The Phono Box USB features gold-plated stereo RCA connections. A stereo RCA input connects your turntable, and a stereo RCA output connects your home receiver or amplifier. RCA cables sold separately.

Ground Terminal: The Phono Box USB also has a turntable ground, in case your turntable has a separate ground lead. This provides shielding to the tone-arm and the sensitive circuitry in the turntable.

A/D Converter with USB Output: The Phono Box USB features a built-in A/D converter (Burr Brown PCM2904 16-Bit Delta Sigma) with a mini-USB (type-B) output to record your vinyl music to a Windows PC or Mac computer (USB cable not included). The unit supports sampling frequencies of 32, 44.1, and 48kHz. Your computer must have a suitable recording program installed (the Phono Box USB does not provide built-in recording software).

Note: Runs on Windows (XP/Vista/7) and Mac OS (operating systems). Automatic recognition, without additional driver, by standard PC.

Outboard Power Supply: The Pro-Ject Phono Box USB operates off of standard household AC current, using the supplied AC power adapter. The external power adapter is separate from the phono preamp to further improve sound quality.

  • Input: 100-240V~50/60Hz, 0.6A
  • Output: 15V - 500mA (18V)

Q
Turntable users. Do you have to turn volume knob up more for same volume amount as other devices? Ex: TT on -6bd. TV on -28db.

I do not have to adust the volume. You probably need to press the cartridge selection button in the back of your preamp. I noticed the the factory setting was wrong for my cartridge and the output was low. Good luck.

I haven't noticed that. I think the volume is the same for all the components on my audio/video setup and it isn't anything fancy.

Not that I have noticed we run ours through a Rotel system and seems to be at the same volume as blutooth, TV or other inputs.

Q
Is This compatible with Windows 8? I have Windows 7 now but will be buying a new laptop in the near future and most come pre-installed with 8. Thanks:)

As long as your favorite software (or app) you want to use runs on Windows 8, Pro-Ject will be be happy with your new laptop and W8.

It is compatible with any computer. All you need to do is download a program like Audacity.

It depends on whose recording software you're using. I'm using VinylStudio (nice program) on Windows 7, though they claim compatibility also with Win 8. alpinesoft DOT co DOT uk

We use our unit with an Apple Laptop and it works just fine. Have not used it with Windows 8. Seems like a quality unit though.

Q
can I use the usb port connecting my pc to a stereo amplifier in order to upgrade the sound quality of my pc as a sound source? Thanos, Thanks.

If I understand your question correctly, you want to connect the USB out on your PC and send the signal to an amplifier for driving speakers. No that won't work because the USB is a digital signal. Amplifiers and speakers require an analog signal. Also, the USB port on the Pro-Ject Phono box is an output. The PhonoBox takes the unamplified analog signal from the phonograph and digitizes it and sends it to the USB port as digital signal your PC can read. You can't do this process in reverse by sending a digitized signal to the PhonoBox through it's USB port. Hope that answers your question.

Not sure if i understand your question. Pro-Ject Phono Box USB is a pre-amp for connection between turntable and amplifier, or output to computer's USB port should you wish to digitize analog LPs (works very well with Vinyl Studio's software). Re: computer connection to stereo: I have a Pro-Ject Receiver Box S, and simply run a 3.5mm mini plug from computer's audio output into input 2 on back of receiver. An option is to get a 3.5mm Mini Plug to RCA cable, and run to the typical 2 RCA inputs on rear of receiver.

It seems your question is confusing and is not about this product and its intended use. Please resubmit your question in a clear and concise format and I will do my best to give you an honest response.
