About the JVC GY-HM170U 4KCAM
A compact 4K camera for your inner pro
A compact 4K camera for your inner pro
I like shooting off-the-cuff home videos for family events, but sometimes the filmmaker in me wants to branch out into the lush, cinematic world of 4K. The JVC GY-HM170U is a high-performance 4K Ultra HD camcorder that is also compact — great for a little guerilla moviemaking. The camera features a built-in 12X zoom lens and a large CMOS sensor, so you can get razor-sharp footage, even from a distance.
Full-color screen and viewfinder
When you put the camera up to your eye, you want to know that you're getting an accurate image of the scene you're shooting. The GY-HM170U features a 1.56-million pixel color viewfinder with smart focus assist function, so you can frame each shot with confidence. Then, when you want to review the footage you've shot before moving on to the next location, pull it up on the camera's 3.5-inch color LCD display.
High-quality connections and controls
The GY-HM170U lets you connect a 4K Ultra HD display using an HDMI cable and monitor the camera's live 4K signal or watch your recorded scenes. It also downconverts Ultra HD signals to standard HD for output through the HDMI connector, for times when you want to show a rough cut on a non-4K TV. A 3.5mm input is available for adding an external microphone, so dialogue comes through loud and clear. The camera records to dual SDHC/SDXC card slots, allowing simultaneous recording of HD master tracks alongside smaller, web-ready H.264 files. Or you can record 4K video until you fill up one card, then automatically switch over to the other. Function buttons can be user-assigned, so you can further customize the camera according to the way you like to work.
