Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 5030UB

Epson's Home Cinema 5030UB. For the quickest, most hassle-free projector setup, consider the Epson Home Cinema 5030UBE with wireless HDMI.

Hey, movie fans, Epson's Home Cinema 5030UB takes picture quality as seriously as you do. This projector will produce exceptionally vibrant images in a wide range of rooms and setups, even on large screens 120" or bigger. Enjoy a theater-quality experience for both 2D and 3D video. Even if you don't care about 3D, the 5030UB's amazing contrast, accurate color, and versatile placement options make it an easy recommendation in this price range.

Performance certified by THX®

The 5030UB is THX-certified for both 2D and 3D video, which is no small accomplishment. The projector had to pass over 400 laboratory tests to ensure strict adherence to industry performance standards for black level, resolution, contrast, color gamut, and signal processing. When you select either the THX 2D or 3D Cinema Mode, you can count on seeing a top-notch 2D or 3D performance that will equal or surpass what you'd see in a commercial movie theater.

Enough light for bright rooms, enough control for dark rooms

Many high-performance projectors are designed for use in darkened or dimly-lit rooms, which is fine if you have a dedicated room, but if you don't it can be a limitation. The 5030UB has loads of light power, so it's ideal for real-world family rooms, home theaters with really big screens, and situations where others in the room need to keep some lights on. There's even a picture preset called "Living Room" designed for ambient light conditions. The 5030UB's high brightness also comes in handy for 3D viewing since 3D glasses tend to dim the picture a bit. Three of the projector's picture settings are dedicated to 3D, so you can enjoy a gorgeous 3D picture without changing the settings for watching in 2D. If you are able to make your room really dark, you'll want to use one of the projector's lower light settings, and turn on the "auto iris" feature, which optimizes black level and contrast for each scene.

Flexible placement and hookup options

For spontaneous or "event" viewing, the 5030UB sets up easily on a table or shelf. Or you can get a bracket and ceiling-mount it. Horizontal and vertical "lens shift" allow you to position the projector off-center and still get a perfectly true image. Two HDMI inputs and a component video input are available for your high-definition sources. Blu-ray movies viewed with the 5030UB will melt your mind — and you'll want to dig out your favorite DVD titles, too, because Epson's Super Resolution "smart sharpening" feature gives standard-definition video sources a cleaner, clearer look.

For the best picture quality from any projector, we recommend using a projection screen.

Awesome projector!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was a little concerned that the picture quality wouldn't be what I was expecting from a projector. Was I ever wrong. Great picture quality. Love the 3D. Still fine tuning the settings, which is not difficult at all. And I'm a rookie. I would absolutely recommend this projector. Crutchfield was great to work with and I will go straight to them again.

Pros: Everything.

Cons: Haven't found any.

Didn't Know What I Was Missing!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently bought a fixer-upper that needed a lot of work before I could get to the media room. So in year three I started to tackle the room which was left with a screen but no projector. I thought about tearing out the screen and just getting a giant led/lcd tv, but read the reviews about the current projectors and decided to install the Epson 5030ub. The projector quality blew me away!! It projects a 105" image in perfect HD. Installing a big led/lcd would have been a huge mistake. My room is pitch black, so I don't know how it would do with some ambient light, but with my set up, it is just as good or better than a movie theater. I wish I would have tackled the home theater first, instead of the other projects. It makes sporting events and movies completely awesome. Kudos also to Crutchfield for helping with some rebate issues with Epson. In the end, it worked out great, so thanks to Crutchfield and Epson for satisfying a customer. I don't think you will be sorry for spending the extra $$$ for this projector. Also - I read the other reviews about noise, and have no idea what they are referring to. I guess I have my 7.1 Definitive Tech speakers cranked up too much to hear anything from the projector!!

Pros: HD Quality, Brightness

Cons: None

Excellent Projector

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have been operating the projector for one week now and find it to be fantastic. The picture it produces is very bright and sharp. I mounted it to the ceiling, centered on the screen so did not need to use the horizontal offset. The menu settings were easy to make after I read the manual and everything works perfectly. It is connected to my home theater receiver with a 40 foot "active" (directional) HDMI cable and the picture quality is definitely 1080P when that signal is used. This is my first projector and it is a great one. The other positive reviews were right on the money.

Pros: Great picture, easy set up.

Cons: None.

Purchased this Epson 5030ub from Crutchfield. Easy web transaction, prompt shipping and unit arrived in great shape. The free lamp offer was a bonus. This is my first projection device. Can't wait for my screen to arrive to fire this projector up. Will add more information after I've set it up and had a chance to play with it...

Pros: Easy web transaction, fast shipping

Great upgrade to previous model (Pro 6010)

The edge detail enhancement and extra color calibration settings really make this projector pop! I have had a Pro 6010 for the past 3.5 years and just upgraded. I was quite happy before but even more so now. Picture is much closer to a LED now than ever before. Great buy

Bought this Epson as a replacement. Great picture....with amazing brightness. The preset color modes are very accurate and fit different viewing media. The auto iris is loud & annoying so I keep it off. My untrained eye can't notice any difference when it is on. Would recommend this projector highly.

Pros: Bright vibrant images with accurate color levels.

Cons: Loud auto iris.

Bankrupt your local cinema.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this projector a little over a year ago, discovered my fan was overly loud compared to other 5030's. Called epson for warranty replacement. Replacement was DOA. Epson sent another, it worked but the picture was just lifeless compared to my original purchase. No matter how meticulous I was at calibration with the Disney WOW Blu Ray. (you need it if you don't have it) called Crutchfield and pled my case. 2 days later a BRAND NEW epson was at my door. Epson was replacing with refurbs. Buy only from crutchfield if you want someone to care your completely happy with your purchase.

The picture from this thing is absolutely fabulous. Clear, sharp, deep color, bright as you need it, capable of great picture at medium light levels. In a dark room it puts my local, new, extreme screen stadium theater to absolute shame (so sad) . We watch all our evening TV on this projector on a 124" screen, throwing from 20'. The auto iris does make a little noise if you are in a very quiet part of a movie, so don't sit too close. We are 8' from it and its not distracting.

We recently had some non audiophile/videophile friends over and they were absolutely mind blown over how beautiful the picture was.

Pros: Gorgeous picture, very easy to use with automatic picture modes, even better picture when calibrated. Doesn't require thousands of dollars in calibration equipment to set up to videophile quality levels. Fan noise is barely noticeable. Crutchfield customer service

Cons: Takes a couple of minutes from startup to achieve full brightness, autoiris does make a little noise. Not 4k or laser but not $10-$50 thousand either.

Epson 5030UB Projector

Written by: firechief467 from Knoxville, Tennessee on October 19, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Outstanding projection image across the room. Extremely sharp and crisp details to the image. The projector has all the bells & whistles for adjustment and picture clarity. Very pleased with the selection, delivery, and technical support.

Pros: Extremely clear and crisp image details. Also, the image adjustment menu is easy to use and very intuitive.

Cons: The overall dimensions of the project has a very large profile, as compared to many of the portable presentation type projectors. This will not be a projector that can be easily moved to an outdoor or other location for movies or sports events.

This is the second time I purchased this projector. Bought it once and had to sell with the house and second because I love it just that much. This projector hits the target for hd viewing and 3d experience. There is little to no noise from the internal fans. The menu is clear for all users. You can convert from 2D to 3D easily. Just buy this projector and Crutchfield will never let you down!

Pros:

Cons: Start up is a little slow. To be expected tho from all projectors.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have been looking for months for a great projector. Did my research and decided to buy this unit. So glad I did. Have it throwing 15 feet to a 135 inch screen. Incredible picture. Blu-Ray discs look spectacular. Be sure to only put this in a light-controlled room. The sun hits my blinds in the morning, so I really can't watch much in the a.m. But I really don't watch TV until night time anyway, so it's no big deal.

Pros: Set up easy incredible picture Quiet (home theater sound easily drowns out whir) Instant shut down Pairs easily with Logitech Harmony remote

This is my 3rd projector. I upgraded from a Panasonic PT AR100U which was a big projector and pretty good. I also have an Optoma HD 141x which is a lot smaller and nice for a budget projector. The Epson blows them away. The picture out of the box is amazing. I have my epson shelf mounted from about 15 feet away projecting on a 106 inch screen. In Living room mode, the picture is bright enough to watch with lights on. In a dark room, THX mode looks great. Couldn't be happier!

Pros: Great picture, bright and easy to set up.

Cons: Cost but you get what you pay for.

Beautiful Picture Quality

Written by: JB from Pennsylvania on June 29, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This projector was easy to mount and set up, but it's the amazing picture quality that sells it. I found the "natural" mode looks the best to me. I made a few minor adjustments in terms of brightness/contrast and color, but it looks pretty darn good right out of the box. I always use it in eco-mode - the fan is extremely quiet and the picture is plenty bright. (The projector is mounted about 20 feet away from my screen.) Detail is amazing, especially in darker scenes. So far, I'm just enjoying re-watching my movie collection. :)

Pros: Easy to set up, beautiful picture quality.

Cons: None so far.

Great Projector!

Written by: JM from North Carolina on April 3, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this projector after reading MANY professional and user reviews. It's my first projector, so I can't compare it to other units, but it has a great picture, plenty bright when set up to project to a 120" screen from 20' away. This throw distance capability was one of the main reasons I considered this projector; many other brands / models can't project this size image from that far away. Haven't tried 3D yet, so can't speak to that. Crutchfield buying process was easy and accurate, and free shipping was fast, too!

Pros: Great picture quality. Quiet when in "normal" brightness mode. Easy initial setup. Plenty of adjust-ability.

Cons: No ability to use an anamorphic lens. Not an issue for me, as I just accept the black bars top and bottom on 2.35:1 or similar aspect ratio sources.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a very good projector. I tested it on just a plain white wall (theater still under construction) and it is the best picture I have ever seen. Can't wait to get my screen up and see what this thing can really do!

I don't have the knowledge to get into all the technical details, but I can say that this Epson projected on a painted white wall looks better than my friend's dedicated theater setup with non-Epson projector.

Pros: Quite, adjustable, bright

Cons: None so far

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my 3rd projection system for my Home Theater and I could not be happier.... This product is nothing short of WOW...Colors are great and the Blacks are Black. If 3D is your thing you will be so impressed. Although 3D is not my thing, I did watch several films just because it was so cool. Just so impressed with the overall projector. I mounted the system on the ceiling directly between row 1 and 2 and you cant hear the fan at all, this might be because our mouths were wide open in awe of the brilliant picture! Thanks Crutchfield!

Pros: Quit fan, Great Color and Great Blacks. Cant believe you can watch with the lights on....

Cons: Some have issues with its size. For me, I like to see my Money and have no issue with it. Perfectly square with a 2x2 drop ceiling panel.

Great Projector

Written by: Don from Arizona on March 10, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this projector to replace an Epson Home Cinema 6100. The higher lumens and contrast ratio were what attracted me, along with all the great reviews. Needless to say, I am very happy with the purchase. Spoke at length with a Crutchfield advisor who was very helpful. Like most everyone else, I was price shopping and even though I could've saved a couple dollars going with someone else, I purchased through Crutchfield and I am glad I did, because the Advisor also let me know I could get a free replacement lamp with my purchase, and no one else mentioned it. I am projecting on a Carada 100" screen with about a 14' throw, with moderate ambient daylight and the picture is still amazing. I haven't tried the 3-D yet but am looking forward to it.

Pros: Much cheaper than a flat screen of equal size with great color and picture quality.

Cons: None as of yet

AMAZING PROJECTOR!

Written by: Regal from Boyers, Pa on February 13, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

1st of all, this projector is nothing short of amazing right out of the box, I was blown away. I did some initial adjustments to get started, but to get the full potential out of this projector you will need to calibrate it. I installed the free filmware update and ordered a calibration disk and Wow, it's like a whole different projector! It actually rivals my Samsung LED Tv, the picture is that crisp and clear. I have viewed a couple 4k projectors and I can honestly say I cannot tell the difference! I have a dedicated theater room in my basement so I have total control of the lighting but this projector can project a clear, bright image even with the lights on. I have a 110" fixed screen with my seating about 12' away with the projector ceiling mounted about 14' from the screen, the results, Unbelievable! Paired with my Onkyo 7.2 receiver and Polk matched speakers, I may never leave the house!

Pros: Many options

Cons: None

What an upgrade!

Written by: jhawk27 from Brighton, IL on January 21, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Night and day from my Sony VPL VW60!! I literally left the darkness and entered the light!

So happy I decided to upgrade from my Sony VPL VW60 that I have had for 6 years or more. I feel like I left standard definition and am finally viewing HD for the first time even though this isn't literally the case. My Sony looked great in its time but this Epson is soooo much brighter and yet still displays beautifully deep, dark blacks as well as excellent shadow detail. I have it mounted from the ceiling in my dedicated theater in the basement with complete ambient light control projecting on a 100" Carada Criterion, classic white cinema screen. I have 18 lights in my theater all on remote controlled dimmers and you can enjoy a beautiful, colorful picture with a great deal of light if you wish. The room no longer needs to be in 95% darkness to have an excellent picture. It was simple to set up the projector from the ceiling where my Sony once hung. I feel like calibration was a snap as well. If you're like me with an aging projector and not sure if you want to spend the money, take the leap. It will be worth it. I had looked at the highly reviewed JVC projectors which costs thousands more but budget won out and I am not sorry. Sound and Vision magazine also rate this baby as one of the 2014 products of the year. It's a winner! Thanks Crutchfield.

Pros: Brightness, beautiful color, fantastic contrast, what a picture!!

Cons: Lack of motorized lens for setting up the projector although the manual controls work perfectly

Absolutely AMAZING!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I did the research. I scrimped and saved. I finally screwed up the courage to order this projector from Crutchfield and I do not regret it! What a fantastic upgrade to my Samsung 55". I got the Silver Ticket 106" screen (apx 4X the size of a 55" screen!)and a purchased a ceiling mount from a local big box store.(Note: I tried to build my own mount but it was a nightmare. Save some time and trouble and just by a mount.) In THX mode the 5030UB is playing gorgeous movies right out of the box. All my friends and neighbors can say when they first see it is WOW! I also bought Eclipse total zero black out curtains which make day time movie viewing awesome but even with one curtain open movies and games look terrific in Living Room mode. Plenty of color popping brightness even during the day. I just can't express enough how AMAZING movies and games are with this projector. I haven't even used the 3D mode yet because its not a big deal for me. If you're a movie enthusiast who has been on the fence for a while like I was then do yourself a solid and go for it! Its completely worth it and you WILL be impressed by the difference. Enjoy! Also, like always, Crutchfield was a pleasure to do business with. Phone call assistance with research, they had the item in stock when apparently the whole world was out (Christmas time!), shipping was fast and they provided a tracking number that I could check in real time on line. I absolutely love Crutchfield!!

Pros: Awesome color and brightness! Will transform your room into a real theater. Easy to use remote and features. Black levels and contrast are just terrific. Quiet fan, even in bright mode I don't notice it. Digital up-scaling can make some DVDs near BluRay quality. It does come with two pair of 3D glasses if that's your thing. Great, great, great!

Cons: The only thing I can see as a con for some is the size and weight of the 5030UB. It weighs about 19lbs. I mounted it by myself to the ceiling but if I wasn't in shape it would have been impossible without help. Professional installation might be needed for some folks. It will still be AWESOME though! It does look a bit like Wall-E's head hanging down but to me its a thing of beauty.

Exactly What I Wanted

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This projector is awesome! I did plenty of research before my purchase and all signs pointed to Epson as being the best value for my home theater project. That being said, there's still an element of luck and faith involved in a purchase like this. I just hoped that once it was mounted, hooked up, and the lights dimmed that it would live up to my expectations. I mounted the projector using a Peerless PRGUNV Precision Gear Universal Projector Mount and built my own screen using blackout cloth and 1x4's. I'm pretty handy but it was not difficult at all. My setup has the projector mounted 18 feet from the screen on a 9 foot ceiling. I'm able to get a very clear picture on a screen that is about 135 inches wide (roughly 6 1/2 feet by 10 feet). The zoom feature would really crisp up the image but I went for maximum size. Still very clear though. 3D feature is ridiculous.

Pros: Easy to operate. Quiet (fan). Infinitely adjustable- zoom, focus, keystone, lens shift. Solid construction. Bright. 3D ready with glasses included (requires 3D source i.e. 3d Bluray player, Playstation)

Cons: Hate to say anything negative... Just note the size- this thing is pretty big so you'll need to make sure it's mounted to a joist with a good mount.

Impressive!

This is my third projector. Started with a Benq, then the Mitsubishi HC4900. I thought the Mitsubishi at the time had a nice picture, wow was I wrong. I hooked up the Epson and once I got everything set and put in a movie I couldn't believe it. The bright vivid picture just pops out at you. The brightness and clarity is amazing. I then swithed to HD TV and again couldn't believe the difference in picture quality even the standard channels looked amazing. All I can say is you won't be disappointed in this projector if you take the leap and buy one. I would buy again and recommend to any of my friends or family. P.S. You know when your wife and then daughter see the picture and comment WOW that picture is so much better than the last projector that you made the right choice.

Pros: Great Picture Quality!

I did the installation. Was a little tricky to get everything lined up. Picture is amazing. Blu-ray looks fantastic. Football, well you feel like you are in the huddle. Projector replaced 65in Panasonic VT plasma TV. I gave some clarity for size! I love the 120 in of screen. Well worth it. You will not be disappointed.

Purchasing the 5030UB at the time that I did was win win for a number of reasons. If the projector was purchased between Oct. 1st 2014 through the end of Dec 2014, then we get a free bulb at no additional cost. Since there was no updated version of the 5030UB at the CEDIA Expo this past September, Epson had given us 5030UB owners a firmware update (V111), which you can download from their website and easily install with your laptop. What a remarkable improvement the firmware upgrade makes in terms of picture quality. I was upgrading from an Epson PowerLite Home Cinema, which is already a fantastic, the 5030UB takes it up another few notches in terms of brightness, clarity, contrast ratio, and detail. With the firmware upgrade, the different super resolution modes make a much more profound difference. I honestly cannot tell the difference between this projector and some of the 4K projectors I have also sampled, which are also roughly 3 times the cost. I'm extremely pleased with the projector and I thank Chad, the advisor who steered me in the right direction..

Pros: -A bargain compared to the other much pricier projectors, which in my opinion are no better -600,000:1 contrast ratio -Brightness, which allow for projection without ambient light being too intrusive -Clarity & detail -Free bulb -Epson offers extended warranties on their products.

Cons: None

Very happy. Would buy again and recommend to friends. Replaced 780P. Incredible upgrade. Great picture, contrast and brightness. Good picture with light. Incredible picture in dark room. Best overall projector I could find around $2500.

Pros: Picture, value for what you get for the money,

Cons: None.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great projector. After doing lots of research, I finally took the plunge. The THX mode is great for movie watching and in Dynamic and Living Room mode you can even watch with ambient light in the room. I don't regret a thing.

Pros: The price is reasonable Bulb life Picture quality

Cons: Fan noise, while not ridiculous, is noticeable when not in ECO mode.

We love this projector!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Like many of you I did an insane amount of research and review reading before finally, nervously, pulling the trigger and making this purchase. We have had this projector for a month now and really, really love it. It is in our basement, which is just a standard finished walk-out basement with three windows (no coverings yet as we just moved in) under a deck and a sliding glass door. Currently the projector is sitting on a sofa table, we wanted to make sure this would work for us before purchasing ceiling mount, and is projecting on a light contractor grade tannish flat painted wall, again we wanted to make sure we liked the projector before investing in a screen. We have more than our fair share of natural light during the day so yes the image is washed out, but you can still see everything that is happening and no one has complained about not being able to see the near life-size football players on the wall. In the evening movies look awesome, blacks look great, no motion delays on TV or BluRay! Keep in mind we are still operating with no screen and no formal mount, but we are completely sold on this projector. We wanted a projector to do family movie nights with the kiddos and to host football watch parties and this projector has exceeded our expectations and I would without hesitation recommend this projector to anyone considering it. Should things change or problems arise with further use I will try to amend my review as necessary.

Pros: Great picture even with loads of light (washed out, but still clear) Easy to set up Easy to make adjustments

Cons: It is much larger than I expected, but not a big deal.

Have had the Epson for only about 30 days now and I am very happy I purchased. Did a lot of research and it was between the Epson and the Sony VPL-HW55ES. Originally I was leaning more towards the Sony but after a side by side comparison I went for the Epson. Even though to me the Sony was just a little better, it wasn't over a 1,000 dollars better. Besides I prefer to buy when I can from Crutchfield. Still need more time to figure out all its capabilities, but I've been happy running it using the THX setting and have been quite happy with that setting. Very clear picture and even has a very good picture with the lights on. Setup is a in a dedicated media room with some ambient lighting, 12-13 feet from 102 inch screen. Also it is the very 1st projector I've owned that I watch TV on. The world cup games were awesome.

Pros: Works well in ambient light. For the cost a super picture. Not noisy at all.

Cons: Size. Have gotten use to. Being white. I call it Eve ... from Wall-e.

Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 5030UB Projector

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Transaction with Crutfield went extremely well. Got assistance from one of thier sales associates. Received my projector ahead of promised day. This is my 6th projector. Each successive purchase in the past, yielded significant improvement in picture quality. Prior to purchases, I did do significant research of a number of owner and professioal reviwers. The comments I read were very favorable and the product specification appeared to be extremely advanced compared to the other projectors I was considering for purchase. The ratings for the contrast (600K), brightness 2400 lummens, 1080P, and others led me to expect a significant improvement over my 8 year old Sony VLP-HS20. Rewiers, indicated they got an excellent picture right out of the box. In my case, I was disappointed with the quality of the picture, most likely because my expected improvements over my existing Sony projector were very high, especially when it came to the picture brightness, the contrast, the sharpness, and color quality. Don't get me wrong, there were improvements, but of a much smaller scale than I had experienced in my past projector upgrades. This projector contains much more sophisticating calibration options than my previous projectors. I haven't tried all of them before writing this review. As I get better in calibrating this projector, I expect to reach a point where I'll be satisfied with the picture quality.

Pros: 1. Reasonable price. 2. Cruchfieled sales transaction and fast delivery. 3. The 3D picture is much better than what I had expected. 4. In spite of my initial disappointment, I decided to keep the projector. I did not as yet experiment with all the calibration adjustments options available with this projector.

Cons: 1. After fiddling with the picture calibration adjustments over the past three weeks, I still had not reached a point where I'm totally satisfied with picture quality and sharpness when viewing DVDs. 2. After 2 weeks, it appears that the dynamic iris stopped functioning. 3. Thus far, I find myself needing to readjust many of the settings to optimize the picture quality every time I change to a different DVD disk.

Very nice projector. Nice Image Quality

Pros: Nice Image Quality. Easy to setup.

Epson 5030UB

Written by: R. Meserve from Charlottesville, VA on March 4, 2014

In a dim room, the picture quality from this projector is more than acceptable. In a fully dark room, it's phenomenal. Seen from 14 feet, on a 120 inch screen, it's indistinguishable from what we see at the local movie theater. I can't recommend this projector highly enough. And it was well worth the several week wait for availability. Let Eric (Crutchfield product advisor) recommend a suitable fixed screen.

Pros: Picture quality, picture quality, picture quality.

Cons: Several week wait for availability.

Just as advertised. Much improved picture on 106 inch 1.8 gain grey screen when compared to the more than satisfactory Mitsubishi HC5500 it replaced. Crushes the Mitsubishi when room is not completely dark.

Pros: Bright and sharp picture. Easy setup. Simple remote. Logical menus. 3D receives compliments.

Cons: Loud fan (compared to the Mitsubishi). Remotes signal (receiver ?) seems weak.

Some people complain that this is pricey. However, I have used cheaper projectors and you definitely can see the difference. The colors are vivid and bright. The resolution is great. I have a 120 inch screen and I love the projector. Even in 3D with the glasses, there is enough brightness to have a bright picture

Pros: Bright vibrant sharp picture with NOTICABLE contrast ratio

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This projector generates an incredible picture. I was apprehensive about ambient light levels but no more - short of sunshine this projector (on one of the two bright settings) will provide at least a respectable picture in most any light conditions. Of course, in darkened environments it is nothing short of spectacular.

Pros: Fantastic picture Easy to set up

Cons: Not really a con but the projector is huge - but it is white in color so it at least blends in to my white ceiling . Installation instructions are worthless - you're better off just winging it.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Really great projector. Very easy to set up. Great image. I am projecting from 12' away and getting a great 120" image. Picture does fade a bit with the lights on; I expected that it would be brighter given the high lumen count, but I can easily control light sources in my theater room.

Pros: Great image. Easy install.

Cons: Pricey. Poorer image if you can't minimize light in the room.

Features

C²Fine 3LCD, 3-chip Technology: The Home Cinema 5030UB features C²Fine 3LCD, 3-chip technology to give you rich, vibrant images for enjoying spectacular movies, games, and sporting events in your home, or to deliver sizzling business presentations at the office. This technology requires 25% less electricity per lumen of brightness when compared to 1-chip DLP projectors. The projector's 1080Perfect video processing gives you more film-like images, free of noise or artifacts.

Projection Lamp: The projector uses an energy-efficient E-TORL 230-watt Ultra High Efficiency (UHE) lamp with a life span of approximately 4000 hours in the Normal Mode. In the ECO mode, the life span is increased to approximately 5000 hours. The lamp (Part # V13H010L69) and air filter (Part # V13H134A39) are the only user-serviceable parts.

Fan Cooled: The projection lamp is kept cool by a fan. The fan noise level is 32dB in Normal mode and 22dB in ECO mode. If the projector is to be used at an altitude above 4921 feet (1500 meters), the High Altitude Mode should be turned on so the fan can properly cool the projector at the high altitude air pressure.

Fujinon Lens: The Home Cinema 5030UB features an F2.0-3.17 Fujinon lens with a focal length of 22.5mm to 42.7mm. It has a manual focus and a manual zoom ratio of 1.0 to 2.1. If the projected image is not centered in front of the screen, you can correct the position of the image using the vertical and horizontal lens shift dials on the top of the projector. The vertical position can be adjusted by up to 96% of the height of the screen, while the horizontal position can be adjusted by up to 47% of the width of the screen. The vertical keystone buttons, located on the side of the projector, can correct the shape of the image, if it is not rectangular. The unit does not have a horizontal keystone adjustment.

Light Output: In the normal mode, the PowerLite Home Cinema 5030UB outputs 2400 lumens of white light and 2400 lumens of color light for bright, balanced colorful images. The white light output is measured using ISO 21118, a more rigid standard than the ANSI lumens rating used by many competitors. The projector is capable of a dynamic contrast ratio up to 600,000:1.

1080P Native Resolution: The PowerLite Home Cinema 5030UB has a native resolution of 1080p (1920 x 1080; 16:9 aspect ratio). The total number of pixels is 2,073,600 dots (1920 x 1080) x 3. You can resize the picture by changing the aspect ratio to 4:3 or 16:10.

Compatible Video Formats: The projector supports analog video in NTSC, PAL, and SECAM formats, and it automatically adjusts to the incoming signal. It can receive these formats as composite or component video. The projector also supports digital video (SDTV, HDTV) and various monitor display formats. Digital video is accepted by the HDMI and Component video ports. The PC port accepts analog RGB computer monitor signals.

Multiple Sources: The PowerLite Home Cinema 5030UB has inputs for multiple sources to give you lots of choices. For connecting to your video equipment, the unit features two HDMI (Ver.1.4) inputs, a component video input, and a composite video input. You can also connect your computer to the projector via the VGA input (D-Sub 15-pin). The unit is compatible with both PCs and Macs. Two cable clips are included to help secure the HDMI cables to the projector.

THX 3D Display Certification (2D-to-3D Conversion): The PowerLite Home Cinema 5030UB is THX 3D certified to deliver exquisite, natural textures and film-like movie experiences. Epson's advanced Bright 3D Drive technology enhances the brightness giving you theater-quality 3D images in your home. To view 3D content, you must first connect a 3D-compatible video device to one of the HDMI ports. You will also need Epson RF Active Shutter 3D glasses for each viewer. Two pair of glasses are included; additional 3D glasses  (278RF3DG, sold separately) available. The projector's 2D-to-3D Conversion setting will transform 2D images to 3D content.

Picture Quality Settings: If the image looks fuzzy, or if it contains noise or flickering, you can use these settings to correct it.

  • Progressive: Converts interlaced to progressive signals. Leave the setting on Film/Auto for viewing movies on a player that produces interlaced output. Select Video for watching videos captured with a video camera. Set to Off when viewing images with a large amount of movement. This setting can be used only when viewing a composite video signal, or 480i or 576i, or 1080i signals input through the Component or HDMI.
  • Motion Detection: This setting specifies how signals are converted to progressive signals. Select a lowersetting for slow-moving or still images (S) or select a higher number for video images (M). This setting can be used only when viewing a composite video signal, or 480i or 576i, or 1080i signals input through the Component or HDMI.
  • Noise Reduction: This setting reduces flickering of analog images. You can select from 3 levels of noise reduction. This is not be available with a signal input through the PC port.
  • Frame Interpolation: This setting compares the current and previous frames, then creates a frame between them to reduce fuzziness and produce clearer moving images. You can select from 3 levels of frame interpolation.
  • Super Resolution: This setting sharpens blurred images, enhancing the apparent detail of the image. You can select from 3 levels of enhancement. Note that intentionally blurred parts of the image, such as out-of-focus backgrounds, may become sharper. This feature is not available when projecting 3D.

Color Modes: The PowerLite Home Cinema 5030UB offers six color modes to optimize viewing for different environments and image content. The Color Mode adjusts the brightness, contrast, and color for the best possible picture. A different color mode can be selected for each input source. You can select from the following choices:

  • Cinema: for viewing movies in a dimly lit room (2D or 3D)
  • Dynamic: for projecting the brightest picture available (2D or 3D)
  • THX: for projecting THX level image in a dark room (2D or 3D)
  • Living Room: for watching television programs during the day (2D only)
  • Natural: for projecting natural, accurate colors in a dimly lit room (2D only)
  • B&W Cinema: for black and white movies projected in a dark room (2D only)

Color Settings: If the image colors don't look correct, you can adjust them using these settings. Use the first three settings described below to make the most visible changes. If you only need to make slight adjustments, you can fine-tune the picture with the remaining settings. Most color settings are stored separately for each image source and color mode.

  • Sharpness: Use this function to make lines and edges appear more distinct in the image. This setting is stored separately for each image source and color mode setting.
  • Color Saturation: Adjusts the color intensity of the image. Cannot be used with PC input.
  • Tint: Shifts the color balance between magenta and green. Cannot be used with PC input.
  • Color Temperature: Shifts the color balance between red and blue, making the image appear warmer or cooler.
  • Skin Tone: Makes fine adjustments to the tint and controls the amount of red or green in the image. Also useful for correcting black-and-white images, if they look tinted.
  • RGB: Use the RGB settings to fine-tune the color of the image. You can adjust the offset and gain for each signal color (red, green, and blue). Use Offset to adjust darker shades and Gain for the lightest shades
  • RGBCMY: Use the RGBCMY settings to adjust the hue, saturation, and brightness of the six color components (red, green, blue, cyan, magenta, yellow).
  • Gama: You can select from five gamma settings (2.0 to 2.4) or customize your own setting from your image or a displayed graph. Lower values will increase the contrast of dark areas, but tend to blur the bright areas. Higher values will darken the light areas.

Auto Iris: The Auto Iris system constantly controls the light output based on the gamma and black/white levels of the projected content to give you perfectly adjusted images and deepest blacks. Using the remote, you can select either Normal or High Speed to indicate how quickly you would like the projector to respond to changes in the brightness of the image.

Split Screen Mode: The Home Cinema 5030UB's Split Screen mode allows you to simultaneously project two images from different image sources next to each other. The side-by-side images can be equal size or one larger than the other. You can also choose which audio source you want to hear between the displayed images. The Split Screen mode is not available in 3D mode.

Adjustable Image Size + Lens Projection Distance: The PowerLite Home Cinema 5030UB projector can produce an image that is adjustable between 30" and 300" (measured diagonally). The projector's adjustable lens provides a wide range of placement possibilities for a given screen size. The projection distance (distance from lens to screen) range is 2.85' to 47.57'. The distance for several screen sizes at 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratios are given below:

Screen Size
(diagonal)
Projection Distance (in feet)
16:9 4:3
40" 3.8 to 8.3 4.7 to 10.1
60" 5.8 to 12.5 7.1 to 15.3
80" 7.8 to 16.7 9.6 to 20.4
100" 9.8 to 20.9 12 to 25.5
120" 11.8 to 25.1 14.4 to 30.7
150" 14.7 to 31.4 18 to 38.4
180" 17.7 to 37.7 ---
200" --- 24.2 to 51.3

Mounting Options: The PowerLite Home Cinema 5030UB can be placed on a tabletop or inverted and mounted on the ceiling. It can be used for front or rear projection. For tabletop use, you can adjust the image position by raising or lowering the front feet. For ceiling mounting, you will need an optional projector ceiling mount. Four 4mm threaded screw holes are provided on the bottom for a ceiling mount. A commercially-available Kensington security lock can be attached to the unit to prevent theft when installed in a public location.

Remote Control: In addition to the control panel, the projector can be controlled by the supplied wireless remote control, which has a range of approximately 32 feet. The projector has infrared receivers on the front and rear to give you control from most anywhere in the room. An RS-232C port is included for connecting the projector to a 3rd party A/V controller or automation system.

HDMI Link: When you connect HDMI CEC-compatible devices, such as a receiver or DVD player, to the projector via HDMI cables, you can control them using the HDMI-Link control buttons on the projector's remote control. You can register the devices you want to operate in the HDMI Link section of the projector's menu.

Trigger Output: The projector has a 3.5mm Trigger Output port which delivers a 12-volt signal (max 200 mA) to lower your motorized projector screen while the projector is powered on.

Sleep Mode: The projector turns off automatically when no video signal is received for a preset amount of time. You can set the sleep mode to 5, 10, or 30 minutes.

Warranty and Extra Care Home Service: The projector is covered by a 2-year parts and labor warranty, while the lamp is covered for 90 days. Included with the warranty, Epson offers Extra Care Home Service. A replacement unit (in most cases, a refurbished unit) will be shipped to you immediately. (A credit card is required for security deposit.) If it's important that you receive your original projector back, you should use the basic carry-in service instead of Home Service.

I managed to set it up 25 feet away in the basement on a small table and almost getting 180" on my grey colored wall (floor to ceiling 13'x8'picture). Absolutely fantastic color and contrast and picture. Dynamic mode is really bright and also helps during 3D viewing. Watching movies (whether 16:9 or 1.85:1 and 2.39:1 format) or Playstation/XBOX games or sport events like cricket, Superbowl, Soccer etc. on such a big screen is just an awesome experience! You feel you are right there. Like the super resolution feature as well. 3D settings are best and give movie theater effect esp. Avatar, Journey2, Frozen, Gravity, IMAX stuff. Best 1080p 3D HDMI projector (5030UB) out there for around $2300 with free mail-in-rebate for a spare projection lamp and 2 year warranty! Nice deal from Epson. Go get it. [ PRASHANT  Nov 20, 2015 ]

I Use 3d glasses to watch movies.. I would think it would also work with ps3 [ Eric  May 10, 2015 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The throw distance needed for 120" screen is a minimum of 11.8 feet while the minimum for a 150" screen is 14.7 feet. As long as your projector can go in this range or farther back, I think the viewing distance will be perfectly fine. As long as your focus and zoom are properly calibrated to your screen I wouldn't worry about the autoiris. As an av integrator I've installed many of these and I always leave it off. The reason your hearing the iris move constantly while fast forwarding is because the projector is trying to correct any varying differences in optics during playback. Fast forwarding with auto iris on would be like you trying to hold your beer without spilling any while running really fast! You probably wouldn't spill any if you were casually walking normally (normal playback speed)......unless you were already drunk! Hope that analogy helps.Andrew [ ANDREW  Aug 14, 2014 ]
Hello there! The Epson 5030UB projector came "picture perfect" out of the box. I have not experimented with Auto Iris mode for that very reason. Sorry I could not be of more help. Regards, Lou [ LOU E  Aug 13, 2014 ]
I have no idea. I only use one of the inputs. All of my components plug into my receiver, so only one HDMI cord goes to my projector. It does not seem to be necessary, but I don't mind there being 2 inputs [ EDWARD  Jan 20, 2014 ]
You can connect two input sources . One from DVD/BD player and other from cable box. In my case I am using Onkyo receiver that has multiple inputs. My all sources are connected to receiver and one o/p is going to projector. [ ALOK  Jan 20, 2014 ]
Two HDMI allows you to hook-up to different components, for example, cable box and game/DVD at the same time and switch back and fourth from the remote control. [ JAMES  Jan 20, 2014 ]
One for receiver/dvd player and other for laptop I guess. It's an extra facility provided to you because this is a high end projector [ nitin  Jan 20, 2014 ]
