Our take on the Olympus CLA-T01

by David Brown
The CLA-T01 adapter lets you use optional converter lenses with the tough-style Olympus TG-1 iHS and TG-2 iHS compact digital cameras. The CLA-T01 is compatible with the FCON-T01 fisheye converter lens for improved wide-angle shots and the TCON-T01 Teleconverter lens for expanded zoom range. See more info on this item

Bad accessory design for an otherwise great camera.

Written By Steve B, Merrimack NH on Friday, February 15, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
This feature should be an integral part of the camera. Without it you cannot guard the lens with a lens cap or add on accessory lenses. I've already lost one because the accessory zoom lens is threaded and twists off counter-clockwise. Unfortunately, so does this adapter leaving it loose & easy to lose if you are not VERY careful. A pitiful situation for a camera built for outdoor use & touted by the manufacturer as being extremely durable & quick to use.

Here is their response to my concern-

Dear Steve,

Thank you for your inquiry and giving us an opportunity to assist you. We were sorry to learn of the situation.

I will go ahead and forward your feedback and comments to the appropriate department for review and consideration. In the meantime, we suggest not leaning this accessory attached to the camera while its being carried to prevent from this getting loose and falling off.

If you require additional assistance please reply to this email leaving the complete history intact.

Best Regards,

Miguel Olympus Technical Support

I think he meant "leaving" not "leaning"... so great- I see a deer in the forest, assemble the lens & the deer is a mile away by the time I get the lens on! Very poor engineering. It's just an excuse to make you pay more money for an "accessory" that should have been made onto the camera in the first place.
You can add a protective lens cap & accessory lenses once you purchase this adapter.
You can't add a protective lens cap or accessory lenses unless you purchase this adapter. Because it's a screw-on adapter without a positive locking devise it is easy to lose when you unscrew the accessory lens.
