Overview:
The Olympus E-410 outfit includes the
Olympus E-410 digital SLR camera body and the Olympus Zuiko digital 14-42mm,
f3.5-5.6 ED lens. The SLR camera outfit also includes a rechargeable Lithium Ion
battery pack with an AC quick charger adapter and a USB cable to connect the
camera to your PC
Ergonomic Design:
The body of the E-410 is ergonomically designed for
superior comfort and fits naturally in your hand. It's lightweight and stylish
so it's great to carry and use for hours at a time.
Live View LCD:
The 2.5" HyperCrystal LCD (230,000 pixels) provides
many times the contrast of conventional LCD monitors, and enables images to be
beautifully displayed in vivid color, even from 176-degree viewing angles or in
bright sunlight. You can use the camera's LCD screen to preview and review your
shots. Unlike most SLR camera's which only let you review shots on the LCD
screen that have already been taken, the E-410 allows you to use its Live View
LCD monitor to capture still pictures. The Live View LCD monitor offers a 100%
field of view with 15 levels of brightness control.
View Finder: The Olympus E-410 SLR digital
camera also features an eye-level, single-lens reflex viewfinder with an
approximate 95% field of view for recorded images. By adjusting the viewfinder's
diopter to suit your eyesight (with or without eyeglasses), the viewfinder image
will look clearer. During self-timer or remote control operation when your eye
does not cover the viewfinder eyepiece, stray light may enter the eyepiece and
affect the exposure when the image is captured. To prevent this, you can use the
supplied eyepiece cap to cover the eyepiece.
Image Sensor:
The E-410 SLR digital camera features a powerful
10-megapixel, 4/3" Live-MOS sensor which allows you to see more detail in your
pictures and gives you the added flexibility to crop and still produce large,
detailed prints.
TruePic III Processor:
The camera's internal TruePic III processor gives
you brilliantly clear, bright photos with accurate skin tones.
Optics:
The SLR camera features a Zuiko Digital ED lens that
offer a focal range of 14-42mm (equivalent
to a 28-84mm lens in 35mm format). This 3x
standard zoom lens is small and light weight and features a close focusing
distance of only 25cm. The ED (Extra-low Dispersion) and two aspherical lens
elements correct aberrations without increasing lens dimensions. The circular
aperture diaphragm enables beautiful defocusing, one of the big advantages of
this lens. The provided Olympus' digital-specific Zuiko lens provides
edge-to-edge pixel-perfect clarity. Unlike film lenses, these advanced,
precision-engineered 100-percent digital lenses are designed to work perfectly
with all the camera's digital technology. As a result, your photos will have
exceptional color and clarity. The camera is compatible with all of Olympus'
Zuiko Digital interchangeable lenses and other 4/3 standard mount lenses.
Dust Reduction System:
Every time you turn on the E-410, Olympus'
Supersonic Wave Filter (located between the shutter and the image sensor)
silently vibrates at an amazing 35,000 times per second. Dust is flung away and
collected so it can't come back. You can take full advantage of all the benefits
of Olympus SLR cameras and change lenses anywhere without worrying about dust.
Recording Media: The SLR camera offers
several memory options to save what you've shot. The camera features dual memory
card slots. The large memory card slot supports Compact Flash Type 1 and Type II
cards as well as Microdrive memory cards. The small memory card slot is
compatible with xD Picture cards.
Note: Non-Olympus cards or cards
formatted on a computer must be formatted within the camera before they can
be used. All data stored on the card, including protected images, is erased
when the card is formatted.
Record Modes: Record Mode allows you to
select a combination of pixel count and compression rate for the images you
record. You can choose from the following record modes that best suits your
purpose (printing, editing on a PC, website editing, email, etc.).

Shooting Control Modes: The SLR digital
camera features the following Shooting Control Modes.
- Single-Frame Shooting: During
Single-Frame Shooting mode, one frame at a time is shot while the shutter
button is pressed.
- Sequential Shooting: During
Sequential Shooting mode, 7 frames or more at a rate of 3 frames per second
are shot as long as the shutter button is pressed.
- Self-Timer: This function lets you
take pictures using the camera's integrated self-timer feature. You can set
the camera to release the shutter after either 12 or 2 seconds. Fix the
camera securely on a tripod for self-timer shooting.
- Optional Remote Control: By using the
optional remote control (RM-1), you can take a picture with your self in it
or a night scene without touching the camera. The camera can be set to
release the shutter either right away or 2 seconds after the shutter button
on the optional RM-1 remote control (sold separately) is pressed.
Focus Modes: The following three focus
modes are available with the camera.
- Single AF (S-AF): Single
Automatic Focusing is performed once the shutter button is pressed halfway.
This mode is suitable for taking pictures of still subjects or subject with
limited movement.
- Continuous AF (C-AF): The camera
repeats auto focusing while the shutter button remains pressed halfway. When
the subject is in motion, the camera focuses on the subject in anticipation
of its movement (Predictive AF). Even if the subject moves or you change the
composition of the picture, the camera continues trying to focus.
- MF (Manual Focus): This function
allows you to manually focus on any subject while looking through the
viewfinder using the supplied lens' focusing ring.
- S-AF Mode with MF Mode: This function
allows you to fine-adjust the focus manually by turning the focus ring after
auto focus is performed in the S-AF mode.
- C-AF Mode With MF Mode: This function
allows you to fine-adjust the focus manually by turning the focus ring after
auto focus is performed in the C-AF mode.
Auto Focus: Normally, the camera measures
the distance to the subject using the 3 AF frames in the viewfinder and
automatically select the most appropriate point. You can also select the camera
to auto focus using only the left AF frame, right AF frame or center AF frame.
Focus Lock: The camera's auto focus may
not be able to focus on the subject in situations as when the subject is not in
the center of the frame. If this happens, the Focus Lock feature can be used so
you can be sure you are focused correctly on your subject.
LCD
Zoom: It is possible to enlarge the subject 7 or 10 times for display on the
camera's LCD monitor. Enlarging the image during Manual Focus makes focus
confirmation and adjustment easier.
Metering Mode: There are 5 ways to measure
the subject brightness when using this camera.
- Digital ESP Metering: The camera
measure the light level and calculates the light level differences in 49
separate areas of the image. This mode is recommended for general use.
- Center Weighted Averaging Metering:
This metering mode provides the average metering between the subject and the
background lighting, placing more weight on the subject at the center. Use
this mode when you do no want the light level of the background to affect
the exposure value.
- Spot Metering: The camera meter a
very small area around the center of the subject, defined by the spot
metering area mark in the viewfinder. Use this mode when their is very
strong backlight.
- HI Spot Metering (Highlight Control):
When the overall background is bright, white areas of the image will come
out gray if you use the camera' automatic exposure. Using this mode enable
the camera to shit to over-exposure, allow accurate white reproduction.
- SH Spot Metering (Shadow Control):
When the overall background is dark, black areas of the image will come out
gray if you use the camera's automatic exposure. Using this mode
enables the camera to shift to under-exposure, allowing accurate black
reproduction.
Manual Exposure Compensation: In some
situations, you may get better result if you manually compensate (adjust) the
exposure value which is normally set automatically by the camera. By adjusting
the exposure, subjects can keep their natural color. You can adjust the manual
exposure from -2.0EV to +2.0EV in 1/3EV increments.
AE Lock: The Metered exposure value can be
locked with the AE Lock feature. Use this function when you want a different
exposure setting from the one that you would apply under the currently shooting
conditions.
Preview Function: The viewfinder shows the
focused area (depth of field) with the selected aperture value.
AE Bracketing: During AE Bracketing, the
camera automatically shoots a number of pictures at different exposure values
for each frame. Even in conditions where correct exposure is difficult to obtain
(such as a backlit subject or a scene at dusk) you can pick the picture you
prefer from a selected number of frames with a variety of different exposure
settings (exposure and compensations values). The pictures are taken in the
following order - Picture with optimum exposure, Picture with lesser exposure
and Picture with greater exposure.
Easy Shooting Modes: The E-410's Easy
Shooting Modes sets the appropriate shooting conditions automatically. You can
choose from the following.
- Auto: Allows you to shoot using an
optimum aperture and shutter speed that the camera automatically sets. The
built-in flash pops up automatically in low-light conditions.
- Portrait: Suitable for shooting a
portrait-style image of a person.
- Landscape: Suitable for shooting
landscapes and other outdoor scenes.
- Macro: Suitable for taking close-up
pictures.
- Sport: Suitable for capturing
fast-moving action without blurring.
- Night+Portrait: Suitable for shooting
both the main subject and background at night.
- Scene Modes: 20 different scene modes
are available to suit a wide range of shooting situations. You can choose
from the following - Portrait, Landscape, Landscape+Portrait, Night Scene,
Night+Portrait, Children, Sport, High Key, Low Key, DIS Mode, Macro, Nature
Macro, Candle, Sunset, Fireworks, Documents, Panorama, Beach&Snow, Under
Water Wide, Under Water Macro.
Note: The Under Water modes
require and optional underwater protector for underwater shooting.
Advanced Shooting Modes: The E-410 also
features Advanced Shooting Mode for more advanced shooting and grater creative
control. In these modes, you can set the aperture value and shutter speed.
- Program Shooting: Allows you to shoot
using an aperture and shutter speed that the camera sets.
- Aperture Priority Shooting: Allows
you to set the aperture manually and the camera sets the shutter speed
automatically. When you open the aperture (decrease the aperture value), the
camera will focus with a shorter range (shallow depth of field) and produce
a picture with a blurred background. When you close the aperture (increase
the aperture value), the camera will focus within a longer range. Use this
mode when you wish to add changes to the background representation.
- Shutter Priority Shooting: Allows you
to set the shutter speed manually and the camera sets the aperture
automatically. Set the shutter speed depending on the type of effect you
want. A higher speed shutter allows you to capture a as-moving subject
without blur and a slower shutter speed blurs a moving subject, creating a
feeling of speed or motion.
- Manual Shooting: Allows you to set
the aperture and shutter speed manually. This mode give you more creative
control, allowing you to make whatever settings you like, regardless of the
correct exposure.
Noise Reduction: This function reduce the
noise that is generated during long exposures. When shooting night scenes,
shutter speeds are slower and noise tends to appear in images. When the shutter
speed is slow, noise reduction is activated and the camera automatically reduces
noise to produces clearer images. However, shooting time is approximately twice
as long as normal. You can set the noise processing level from Low, Standard,
High or Off.
Anti-Shock: This feature diminishes camera
shake caused by vibrations when the mirror moves. You can select the interval
from the time the mirror is raised until the shutter is released. This feature
can be useful in astrophotography and microscope photography or other
photographic situations where a very slow shutter speed is used, and camera
vibration needs to be kept to a minimum.
White Balance: The SLR camera features a
White Balance function which helps the camera reproduce more natural white
colors using an internal digital processor. There are 4 White Balance modes to
choose from.
- Auto White Balance: This function
enable the camera to automatically detect white images and adjust the color
balance accordingly.
- Preset White Balance: Seven different
color temperatures are programmed on this camera covering a variety of
indoor and outdoor light conditions including Fireworks, Shadows, Cloudy,
Tungsten, Fluorescent Lighting, Neutral White Lighting, and Daylight.
- Custom White Balance: With this
function, you can change the color temperature of one of the Preset WB
settings to your preference. You can adjust Reds versus Blues and Greens
versus Magenta.
- One-Touch White Balance: In this
mode, you can set the optimum white balance for the shooting conditions by
pointing the camera at a white object like a sheet of white paper. The white
balance achieved with this setting is saved as one of the preset WB
settings. This function is useful when you need a more precise white balance
than one of the already preset WB settings. This setting is useful when
shooting a subject under natural light, as well as under various light
sources with different color temperatures.
Gradation: In addition to the Normal
gradation setting, you can select from two other gradation settings.
- High Key: extended bright gradations
(suitable for a subject that is mostly highlighted)
- Low Key: extended dark gradations
(suitable for a subject that is mostly shadowed)
- Normal: normal gradations (general
use)
Picture Mode: You can select an image tone
to create unique image effects. You can also fine-adjust image parameters such
as contrast and sharpness for each mode. In Picture Mode, you can select from
Preset Picture Modes, adjust individual picture parameters and set individual
picture tones.
- Picture Presets: You can choose from
Vivid (produces vivid colors), Natural (produces natural colors), Muted
(produces flat tones) or Monotone (produces black and white tone).
- Picture Parameters: You can adjust
the following individual picture parameters.
- Contrast: distinction between
light and dark
- Sharpness: sharpness of the image
- Saturation: vividness of the
color
- B&W Filter: The filter color is
brightened and the complementary color is darkened. You can choose from
the following filter effects.
- Neutral: creates a normal
black and white image
- Yellow: reproduces clearly
defined white clouds with natural blue sky
- Orange: slightly emphasizes
colors in blue skies and sunsets
- Red: strongly emphasizes
colors in blue skies and brightness of crimson foliage
- Green: Strongly emphasizes
colors in red lips and green leaves
- Picture Tones: This feature allows
you to color a black and white image. You can choose from Neutral, Sepia,
Blue, Purple or Green.
Flash Mode: The SLR digital camera sets
the flash mode according to various factors such as firing pattern and flash
timing. Available flash modes depend on the exposure mode. Flash modes are also
available to optional external flashes. You can choose from the following flash
modes.
- Auto Flash: The flash automatically
fires in low light or backlight conditions.
- Red-Eye Reduction Flash: In the
red-eye reduction flash mode, a series of pre-flashes are emitted just
before the regular flash fires. This helps accustom the subject's eyes to
the bright light and minimizes the red-eye phenomenon.
- Slow Synchronization: The slow
synchronization flash is designed for slow shutter speeds. Slow
synchronization allows you to capture both the background and the subject in
night scenes. Since the shutter speed is slow, be sure to stabilize the
camera by using the a tripod to prevent picture blur. The camera features
two Slow Synchronization modes.
- Slow Synchro 1: the flash fires
right after the shutter fully opens
- Slow Synchro 2: flash fire just
before the shutter closes
- Slow Synchronization With Red-Eye
Reduction Flash: When shooting a subject against a night scene, this
combination function allows you to reduce the red-eye phenomenon. You can
only use Red-Eye reduction with the Slow Synchro 1 mode.
- Fill-In Flash: This flash fires
regardless of the light conditions. This mode is useful for eliminating
shadows on the subject's face, in a backlight situation, or for correcting
the color shift produced by artificial lighting.
- Manual Flash: This mode allows the
built-in flash to output a fixed amount of light. You will need to set the f
value of the lens based on the distance to the subject.
- Flash Off: The flash does not fire.
Flash Intensity Control: This controls the
amount of light emitted by the camera's built-in flash. In some situations, you
may get better results by adjusting light emissions when shooting small subjects
or distant backgrounds. Its is also useful when you intend to increase the
contrast (distinction between light and dark) of images to make the images more
vivid. You can adjust the Flash Intensity Control from -2 to +2.
Optional External Flashes: In addition to
the camera's built-in flash capabilities, you can use any of the Olympus
external flash units specified for use with this camera - FL-50, FL-36, FL-20,
RF-11, TF-22.
ISO Sensitivity: You can set the camera's
ISO sensitivity from Auto, 100, 200, 400, 800, or 1600 to help with poor
lighting or to minimize blurring from inadvertent camera movement.
AF Illuminator: The built-in flash can
function as an AF illuminator. This helps with focusing in low-light conditions
in the camera's AF mode.
Panorama Shooting: You can enjoy panorama
shooting easily using an inserted, optional Olympus xD-Picture Card. Using the
supplied Olympus Master CD-ROM t join a few images shot where the subject's
edges overlap, you can create a single panorama composite image. Panorama
shooting is possible up to a maximum of 10 images.
