Olympus DSLR Outfit: This Olympus dual-lens outfit includes the E-620 Digital SLR with two lenses: the Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 lens and the Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm f4.0-5.6 lens. The lenses have the following specifications:

Image Pickup Device: The E-620 uses a 4/3" Live MOS sensor with approximately 13,060,000 pixels and 12,300,000 effective pixels.

Dust Reduction System: The E-620's built-in Dust Reduction System helps to eliminate unwanted spots on your images. When you turn on the camera, the patented Supersonic Wave Filter silently vibrates, shaking off and collecting dust particles that may accumulate on the sensor.

2.7" HyperCrystal Swivel LCD: You can use the camera's 2.7" HyperCrystal LCD monitor for framing your shots and viewing your digital pictures and videos. The LCD has approximately 230,000 dots and 100% playback field of view. You can adjust the brightness from -7 to +7. The LCD monitor swivels outward, and can rotate 270° so you can compose your shots at any angle, including overhead and down low. The wide viewing angle of 176° lets you clearly see your images from way off axis.

Optical Viewfinder: The E-620 has a built-in, eye-level single-lens reflex viewfinder with approximately 95% field of view. The viewfinder's diopter lets you adjust the viewfinder to your own eyesight.

Live View: Using the Live MOS imaging sensor and the LCD monitor, you can view the subject you are taking a picture of, and the effect that exposure or white balance adjustments have on the composition. The image shown on the LCD is the same image received by the Live MOS sensor. Live View also allows you to enlarge part of the subject for focusing or checking the composition using the display ruled lines.

Image Recording Formats: The E-620 records digital still images in JPEG format, as well as RAW uncompressed images. It cannot record audio or movies.

Still Image File Sizes: The E-620 allows you to shoot still images in 7 sizes with your choice of 4 compression modes. The available picture sizes in the 4:3 aspect ratio include 4032 x 3024, 3200 x 2400, 2560 x 1920, 1600 x 1200, 1280 x 960, 1024 x 768, and 640 x 480. The 4:3 image sizes can each be trimmed to produce images in 16:9, 3:2, or 6:6 aspect ratios. Compression modes available for each picture resolution are Super Fine (1/2.7 compression), Fine (1/4), Normal (1/8), and Basic (1/12). RAW images can be recorded only in 4032 x 3024 resolution with loss-less compression (approximately 1/1.5 compression). The camera can be set to record a RAW and JPEG image simultaneously in several picture sizes.

Recording Media: Still images are recorded on Compact Flash (Type I or II), MicroDrive (compatible with FAT 16/32), and xD-Picture cards. If desired, you can copy images from one type of media to the other if both cards are inserted.

Image Stabilization: The E-620 utilizes mechanical (Sensor Shift) image stabilization to automatically compensate for camera shake in low-light situations or when using a telephoto lens. You can choose from the following stabilization modes:

• I.S. 1: Image stabilizer on
• I.S. 2: Vertical image stabilizer is on and horizontal image stabilizer is off. This is used for panning with the camera in the horizontal direction to achieve a blurred background.
• I.S. 3: Horizontal image stabilizer is on and vertical image stabilizer is off. This is used for panning with the camera in the vertical direction to achieve a blurred background (tilting).
• Off: Image stabilizer is off.

Shooting Modes: Using the top-mounted Mode Dial, you can choose from 7 Easy Shooting Modes and 4 Advanced Shooting Modes:

• Easy Shooting Modes:
  • Auto: You can shoot using an optimum aperture and shutter speed set by the camera. The built-in flash pops up automatically in low-light conditions.
  • Portrait: Suitable for shooting a portrait-style image of a person.
  • Landscape: Suitable for shooting landscapes and other outdoor scenes.
  • Macro: Suitable for taking close-up pictures.
  • Sport: Suitable for capturing fast-moving action without blurring.
  • Night + Portrait: Suitable for shooting both the main subject and background at night.
  • Art Filter/Scene: You can select from the following Art Filters: Pop Art, Soft Focus, Pale & Light Color, Light Tone, Grainy Film, Pin Hole; or from the following Scene Modes: Children, High Key, Low Key, DIS mode, Nature Macro, Candle, Sunset, Documents, Panorama, Fireworks, Beach & Snow, Underwater Wide, and Underwater Macro
• Advanced Shooting Modes:
  • Program Shooting: Shoot using an aperture and shutter speed that the camera sets.
  • Aperture Priority: Set the aperture manually, and the camera sets the shutter speed automatically.
  • Shutter Priority: Set the shutter speed manually between 1/4000 to 60 seconds, and the camera sets the aperture automatically.
  • Manual Priority: Set the shutter speed and aperture manually.

Panorama Shooting: When an Olympus xD-Picture card is inserted in the camera, you can create panoramic scenes with multiple images. Using the supplied Olympus Master 2 software, you can join together up to 10 images to create a unique panorama composite image. Images can be joined together horizontally or vertically.

Focus Modes: The E-620 uses automatic focusing and manual focusing. You can select Single-AF (when shutter pressed halfway), Continuous-AF (always focusing), or Manual (turning the focus ring). You can also fine-adjust the focus manually by turning the focus ring after AF is performed in the S-AF or C-AF mode.

Auto-Focus Target: The camera has 7 Auto-Focus targets for focusing on the subject. In the All-Target AF mode, the camera focuses on the subject in front of the camera from among the 7 AF targets. In the Single-Target AF mode, you can select one AF target for accurately focusing on the subject after composing the shot.

ISO Settings: The sensitivity can be set automatically or manually. You can set the default and upper limits for Auto ISO. The manual ISO sensitivity ranges from ISO 100 to 3200, with selectable ISO steps of 1 EV or 1/3 EV.

White Balance: Color reproduction depends upon light conditions. You can choose from 4 options for setting the white balance:

• Auto: For General Use, used for most light conditions
• Preset: You can choose from the following presets:
  • 5300K: for shooting outdoors on a clear day, for sunset/sunrise, or fireworks
  • 7500K: for shooting outdoors in the shadows on a clear day
  • 6000K: for shooting outdoors on a cloudy day
  • 3000K: for shooting under a tungsten light
  • 4000K: for shooting under white fluorescent lighting
  • 4500K: for shooting under a neutral white fluorescent lamp
  • 6600K: for shooting under a daylight fluorescent lamp
  • 5500K: for flash shooting
• Custom: Color temperature set in the custom white balance menu (between 2000K and 14000K)
• One-Touch: Color temperature set by the one-touch WB method

Sequential Shooting: In addition to shooting single frames, the E-620 can also shoot multiple images for as long as the shutter button is pressed. When set to Sequential Shooting "H", the camera records at approximately 4 frames per second. When set to Sequential Shooting "L", you can set the speed to 1 frame per second or 3 frames per second. The camera must be set to Single-AF or Manual-AF. Focus, exposure, and white balance are set with the first frame.

Self-Timer: The Self-Timer lets you take pictures after a preset amount of time. You can choose from 2 seconds or 12 seconds. When shooting without looking through the viewfinder, you should attach the supplied eyepiece cover to the viewfinder to prevent light from entering the viewfinder and changing the exposure.

Remote Control Shooting: Using the optional RM-1 remote control, you can take a picture with yourself in it, or a night scene without touching the camera. You can set the camera to release the shutter right away or 2 seconds after the shutter button on the remote is pressed. Bulb shooting is also possible using the remote control.

Bulb Shooting: The E-620 can take extra long exposures with bulb shooting. When the camera is set to Bulb, the shutter remains open as long as the shutter button stays pressed. Use of a tripod is highly recommended for bulb shooting.

Pop-up Flash: The E-620 is equipped with an auto pop-up flash. There are several flash modes: Auto, Flash synchronization speed/slow limit, Red-eye reduction flash, Slow synchronization (1st curtain), Slow synchronization (2nd curtain), Slow sync (1st curtain) with Red-eye reduction, Fill in flash, and Flash off. Manual flash settings are also available. In addition, you can adjust the flash intensity from -3 to +3, and shoot 3 images with flash bracketing.

Optional Flash Units: The camera has a hot accessory shoe on the top for use with an external flash unit. Optional flash units that can be used with the E-620 include FL-50R, FL-50, FL-36R, FL-36, FL-20, RF-11, and TF-22. The camera is also compatible with the Olympus wireless RC flash system with the FL-50R and FL-36R flash units.

Bracketing: To increase your chances of getting the perfect exposure in difficult shooting conditions, you can set the camera to take a number of photos at different exposure values for each frame. Frames are shot at optimum exposure, plus pictures adjusted in the opposite directions of exposure. You can perform bracketing in the following ways:

• AE Bracket: Three frames are shot using automatic exposure. You can set the compensation value to 0.3 EV, 0.7 EV, or 1.0 EV.
• WB Bracket: Three frames are shot using different white balances; one at specified WB, one adjusted toward amber-blue color, and the other toward green-magenta. You can set the bracketing adjustments in 2, 4, or 6 steps.
• FL Bracket: Three frames are shot with different flash intensity. Compensation values can be set at 0.3 EV, 0.7 EV, or 1.0 EV.
• ISO Bracket: Three images are taken, each with different ISO sensitivity, with shutter speed and aperture fixed. Compensation values can be set at 0.3 EV, 0.7 EV, or 1.0 EV.

Metering Modes: There are 5 ways to measure the subject brightness:

• Digital ESP: Camera measures light levels and calculates the differences in 49 separate areas of the image.
• Center-Weighted Average: Camera provides the average metering between the subject and background lighting, placing more weight on the subject in the center.
• Spot: Camera meters a very small area around the center of the subject.
• Spot with Highlight Control: If overall background is bright, the camera shifts toward over-exposure so white areas don't turn gray.
• Spot with Shadow Control: If overall background is dark, the camera shifts toward under-exposure so black areas don't turn gray.

Face Detection: The camera will detect people's faces in the frame (up to 8) and adjust the focus and metering automatically.

Multiple Exposures: The E-620 can overlay multiple frames and save the result as a single image. You can overlay an image while taking a picture, or overlay a recorded image in playback mode.

Photo Playback: You can play back images one at a time, or in an index display of 4, 9, 16, 25, 49, or 100. You can also display images recorded on the memory card by date. While in single image playback, the image can be magnified up to 10x for a closer look.

Playback On TV: The E-620 allows you to play back your still images on a TV. The camera offers a composite video output (using the supplied A/V cable).

Editing Images: After images are recorded, you can edit them in the following ways:

• Shadow Adjustment: Shadow Adjustment Technology brings out more details in shadows, capturing the scene exactly as you see it.
• Red-Eye Fix: Reduces the red-eye phenomenon caused during flash shooting.
• Trimming: Sets the trimming size with the control dial and the trimming position with the arrow pad.
• Black & White: Creates black and white images
• Sepia: Creates sepia-toned images.
• Saturation: Sets the color depth while checking the picture on the LCD screen.
• Size Conversion: Converts the image file size to 1280 x 960, 640 x 480, or 320 x 240. Images with an aspect ratio other than 4:3 (standard) are converted to the closest image file size.
• Aspect: Changes the aspect ratio of images from 4:3 to 3:2, 16:9 or 6:6.

PictBridge Printing Capability: Using the supplied USB cable, you can connect this camera directly to a PictBridge compliant printer, regardless of brand.

Power Options: The E-620 is powered by the supplied PS-BLS1 Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery (7.2 volts/1150mAh). The battery charges in approximately 3 hours 30 minutes in the supplied BCS-1 battery charger. The BLS-1 battery is good for approximately 500 shots on a single charge with the LCD off.

Supplied Software

Olympus Master 2 Software: The E-620 includes Olympus Master 2 software on CD-ROM. The software lets you do the following:

• Transfer images from the camera or removable media to your computer
• View images
• Group and organize images into albums and folders
• Correct images using filter and correction functions
• Edit images (rotate, trim, change image size)
• Print images using a variety of formats
• Update the camera firmware
• Develop RAW images
