Olympus M. Zuiko 60mm f/2.8 Digital ED

Overview

Our take on the Olympus M. Zuiko 60mm f/2.8 Digital ED

A flower petal, suffused with the morning light streaming past the forest canopy. An adventurous beetle, navigating the rivulets on the rainforest floor after the daily deluge. Two wedding rings, stacked in front of the bride's dress. And a exquisite, soulful portrait of the bride in the room's subdued natural light. These are the kinds of images you'll be able to get with this lens on the front of your Olympus PEN or another mirrorless camera.

These are the kinds of images you'll be able to get with this lens on the front of your Olympus PEN or another mirrorless camera.

This lens is capable of great macro shots at focusing distances as close as 7-1/2 inches, and with its wide f/2.8 circular, seven-bladed aperture, your out-of-focus backgrounds will melt like butter. But that's not all. With its equivalent focal length of 120mm, it makes an excellent medium telephoto lens or portrait lens.

It's dust- and splash-proof as well, so don't worry about taking it out and about where the good shots live.

So far so good, bought this for a macro lens but it is getting the same amount of use as a portrait lens.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

So far so good, bought this for a macro lens but it is getting the same amount of use as a portrait lens.

Pros: Small, light weight and really sharp.

Cons: Flipping the focus limiter switch can be tough.

Macro World without heavy lenses

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Macro lenses are an entre to the microscopic world around us, even in the garden, and to the tiny world of small creatures. This lens offers that entre and does so without the bulk and weight of typical SLR macro lenses. Its 60mm focal length means a 120 mm equivalent compared to a 35mm full frame camera and the f/2.8 maximum aperture means lots of light for shady areas. It is very sharp and its small size makes it easy to maneuver in tight close ups. It lacks lens stabilization, a con for Panasonic cameras but not for Olympus due to their internal stabilization. I owned the Leica macro lens previously that is stabilized but it was not quite as sharp and you really need a tripod mount for macro work so the stabilization is not necessary. Having this lens in your kit is a constant opportunity to capture the unseen microscopic detail of this world.

Pros: very sharp, good working distance for 1:1, light weight, good for portraits

Cons: no lens stabilization (use a small tripod)

Solid Sharp lens

Written by: Wisertime from Philadelphia, PA on September 6, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very sharp lens for M43rds. Works excellent as a portrait, short tele or Macro lens. I think it rivals the 75mm F1.8 in sharpness, but I don't own to to be certain. Sad that the lens hood is not included. It's kinda long w/ lens hood attached on the OMD, but it's a solidly build and nice looking lens.

Pros: Sharp, solidly built, looks nice, IQ rivals the 50mm F2.0 macro

Cons: No hood included, a tad long, but still a small lens
