If you've taken your first foray into the world of full-frame sensors — like the spectacular one found on the Canon 6D — we've got the perfect go-to lens for you.  This L-Series 24-70mm f/4 "standard" zoom will take you from getting the whole room in the shot to intimate portraits while gathering all the light you need in subdued settings. And even with an APS-C sensor digital camera, you'll have a very useful equivalent range of 38-112mm — perfect for everyday challenges.

With a maximum aperture of f/4, you'll be able to isolate focus on your subjects in both cases, while keeping the background pleasingly out-of-focus. The nine blades of that aperture make an opening that's nearly circular, so those backgrounds will be creamy-smooth.

Lightweight, rugged, and high-performance. Sounds perfect for travel, doesn't it? Book the trip — you've got the ideal companion.

Overview: The Canon EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM lens is a standard zoom lens for Canon EOS cameras. The inner focus system and ring-type USM (ultrasonic motor) gives you faster, more precise auto focusing. The lens mount has a rubber ring for enhanced dust and water resistance. The 9-blade circular aperture diaphragm provides beautiful soft backgrounds, while the fluorine coating on the front and rear lens elements reduces smears and fingerprints.

Macro Shooting: The lens has a macro mode at the telephoto end for taking close-up photos. To set the lens for macro shooting you must hold the Macro/Lock switch while rotating the lens past 70mm to the macro setting. In macro mode, the minimum shooting distance becomes 7.87".

Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS): The Canon Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS) system delivers the equivalent effect of 3 stops and can detect normal shooting or panning. It automatically switches to the optimal IS mode when camera shake is detected. You can turn the OIS on or off using the 2-way switch on the lens barrel.

Focusing Ring: Regardless of whether you're in manual or auto focus mode, the full-time focusing ring always works. This means you can auto focus on a subject, but manually change the focus by turning the focusing ring.

Focus Mode Switch: You can switch between Auto Focus and Manual Focus using the two-way AF/MF switch on the barrel of the lens.

Zoom Ring Lock: To keep the lens from inadvertently extending, you can lock the zoom ring to keep the lens at the shortest point.
