Canon BG-E5 Battery Grip A Great Purchase
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
I installed the Canon BG-E5 battery grip on my Rebel XSi camera on 03/09/2009. I already loved the camera and the grip makes it even better. I now have a firmer grasp for all my photos, especially when turning the camera vertically, or for shots requiring a telephoto. Plus, the attached grip has secondary control buttons (with an enable/disable switch) that are useful for exactly such shots. Two batteries provide a lot of power, but the grip will work with only one battery installed in the tray. Since the BG-E5 inserts into the original battery cavity, the old cavity cover must be removed but conveniently slides into a storage slot on the new grip. I wondered about that before making my purchase and I was afraid I would have to keep the old battery cavity cover stored separately where it might become lost. But Canon neatly solved that potential problem. Inserting and closing the battery tray requires some coordination to push it closed and turn the lock-latch, but it becomes simple with a little experience. I leave my BG-E5 permanently attached to the camera body, so I had to purchase a larger camera bag to accommodate the now larger frame. I suggest taking your camera with the BG-E5 attached to a local camera store and try the various bags for proper sizing before buying a new bag. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase and highly recommend the BG-E5 accessory for the Canon Rebel XSi camera. Buy one. You will be glad you did.
