About the Canon DW100 DVD Burner
Copy your standard-def and high-definition home movies with the Canon DW100. Connect a compatible Canon camcorder using the cam's USB cable and transfer your footage straight to DVD without using a computer. And you can transfer photos to DVD, too.
Archive your high-def videos
Use the DW100 to burn copies of your HD videos to standard DVDs, if you have a high-def Canon camcorder that uses the AVCHD recording format. You can watch these discs by connecting the DW100 to your camcorder, then hooking up the camcorder's audio/video cable to your TV. You can also play the discs in an AVCHD-compatible Blu-ray Disc player.

Product Research
Features
Overview: The Canon DW-100 DVD Burner can be connected directly to your compatible Canon hard-disk-drive or flash-memory camcorder. The DW-100 DVD Burner was designed to provide data backup for Canon hard-disk-drive and flash-memory camcorders, allowing you to download video and burn AVCHD or Standard Definition DVDs. When finalizing AVCHD or Standard Definition video from your camcorder, the DW-100 can also create a menu screen. Still images captured in your compatible Canon camcorder can also be sent to the DW-100 so you can create a "Photo Movie". The DW-100 will also play back the AVCHD discs created in the burner on an HDTV monitor through your compatible Canon HDD or flash-memory camcorder.
Note: AVCHD discs containing scenes recorded in MXP mode cannot be created with the DW-100 DVD Burner. Movies recorded in MXP mode can be copied to Blu-ray discs or a PC's hard disk drive using the ImageMixer 3 SE software bundled with the camcorder.
Camcorder Compatibility: The Canon DW-100 is compatible with the following Canon HDD and flash-memory camcorders (as of Sept 2010):

Recording Speed: The time required to create discs on this burner depends on the number of scenes and the original recording mode used when recording them with your camcorder. The time below are estimates for recording 60 minutes worth of movie on 12-cm discs (4.7 GB per side of DVD-R discs):
AVCHD Discs | |
---|---|

Recording Mode | Required Time (approximately) |
XP | 25 min |
SP | 20 min |
LP | 10 min |
Note: When recording AVCHD, two discs are required in FXP, HXP and XP+ modes. With DVD-R DL discs, about 55 minutes are required, regardless of original recording mode when recording Standard-definition video.
Controls And Connections: The DW-100 is easy to use and only consists of the following three control buttons - Power, Record and Eject. These three buttons are all you need to backup your video along with a simple USB connection to your camcorder using an optional USB 2.0 Hi-Speed cable (sold separately or supplied with your camcorder). The DW-100 features a USB type-A port (USB cable not supplied).
Backup Options: You can choose from three data backup methods with the DW-100. The entire media file may be transferred from the camcorder; or just those portions which are new or have changed; or your Playlist registration. All of these are available for both High Definition or Standard Definition footage. It's also possible to transfer photos taken on your Canon camcorder. The DW-100s Photomovie creation function will convert all JPEG files into a photomovie for storage or for viewing on your television.
AVCHD Playback: You may use your AVCHD camcorder along with the DW-100 to play back AVCHD discs which have been created in the DW-100 on your HDTV monitor. Just connect the burner to your Canon VIXIA high definitioncamcorder via USB and use the HDMI or Component terminal on the camcorder to connect with your HDTV to view the content of the disc.
Note: If not using the DW-100 for playback, an AVCHD-compatible Blu-ray Disc player is required to playback high-definition recordings (high-definition AVCHD recordings cannot be played back on a standard DVD player).
