Built-in Wi-Fi and NFC touch pairing make it a snap to wirelessly transfer images from the camera to your mobile device, even when you're on location. Post those photos of the Acropolis directly from Greece. Canon's free app for Apple® and Android™ even lets you use your smartphone as a remote, so you can set up the camera on a tripod and use the phone as a monitor and shutter release device. Pretty cool, especially when you consider the image quality and dependable low-light performance this camera offers over smartphone cameras.

    Recording Features

3" LCD Monitor: The Canon PowerShot ELPH 350 HS has a 3" TFT LCD monitor, featuring 461,000 dots with approximately 100% picture coverage and a 5-level brightness adjustment. The Night View feature automatically brightens the LCD monitor to suit the brightness of the subject, making it easier to frame the subject in dark conditions.

Image Sensor/Processor: The camera is equipped with a 1/2.3" CMOS image sensor with 21.1-million total pixels, and 20.2-million effective pixels. It uses the DIGIC 4+ Image Processor to give you high quality images and movies.

Optics: The ELPH 350 HS has a 12x optical zoom lens with a 4.5-54.0mm focal length (35mm equivalent is 25-300mm).

Zoom: In addition to the 12x optical zoom, the camera features a 4x digital zoom. When used in combination, the total zoom is approximately 48x. The focal length when using the optical zoom and digital zoom together is approximately 25-1200mm.

Digital Tele-Converter: You can increase the focal length of the lens by approximately 1.6x or 2.0x through the use of the Digital Tele-Converter. With the 1.6x tele-converter, the overall focal length is 40-480mm. The 2.0x tele-converter provides a focal length of 50-600mm.

Recording Media: The camera records still images or moving images with stereo audio on SD, SDHC, and SDXC Memory Cards. The camera does not have internal memory, nor does it include an SD card, so you will be required to obtain a memory card before recording.

Still Image Resolution: The ELPH 350 HS can record still images in JPEG format in four different aspect ratios. You can choose between the following sizes and aspect ratios:

Aspect Ratios Large Medium 1 Medium 2 Small
    16:9 4608 x 2592 3264 x 1832 1920 x 1080 640 x 360
    3:2 4608 x 3072 3264 x 2176 2048 x 1368 640 x 424
    4:3 4608 x 3456 3264 x 2448 2048 x 1536 640 x 480
    1:1 3456 x 3456 2448 x 2448 1536 x 1536 480 x 480

Movies: Movies can be recorded in MOV format (Image data: MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, Audio data: AAC monaural) in Full HD at 1920 x 1080 (30 fps), HD at 1280 x 720 (30 fps), or in Standard Definition (VGA) at 640 x 480 pixels (30 fps). You can also record with a Miniature Effect at HD 1080 x 720 at 6, 3, or 1.5 fps or 640 x 480 at 6, 3, or 1.5 fps.

Image Stabilization: The ELPH 350 HS is equipped with Intelligent image stabilization (Intelligent IS). To correct the effects of camera shake, the camera automatically chooses one of the following IS modes for the shooting condition:

    • Normal: applied for still images
    • Panning: for still images when panning
    • Hybrid IS: for Macro shots
    • Dynamic IS: for movies, reducing strong camera shake as when shooting when walking
    • Powered IS: for movies, for subtle camera shake, such as when shooting movies at telephoto
    • Tripod IS: no image stabilization applied

Focus Lock: If it becomes difficult to focus on the subject due to low contrast to the surroundings, close up and far away subjects in the same shot, or quickly moving subjects, you can choose to lock the focus or auto focus on an object at a similar distance, then shoot the picture after recomposing the shot.

Shooting Range: The camera features the following shooting ranges (measured from the end of the lens):

    • Auto: 0.4" to infinity (W), 3.3' to infinity (T)
    • Normal: 2" to infinity (W), 3.3' to infinity (T)
    • Macro: 0.4" to 1.6' (wide)
    • Infinity: 9.8' to infinity (W/T)

Shooting Modes: You can choose between several shooting modes. In the Smart Auto mode, the camera will automatically select the best settings for the scene, detect and focus on faces, and set the color and brightness to optimal levels. Detected scenes are analyzed using 32 predefined shooting situations. Other shooting modes include: Program, Creative Shot, Portrait, Smart Shutter, High-Speed Burst, Handheld Night Scene, Low Light, Fisheye Effect, Miniature Effect, Toy Camera Effect, Monochrome, Super Vivid, Poster Effect, Snow, Fireworks, Long Shutter, and Movie.

Hybrid Auto: In addition to the above listed shooting modes, the Hybrid Auto mode records a short 2-4 second clip of the scene before you take the still image. The clips are combined to make a digest movie. When you display the still image, you can also play the digest movie created on the same day.

Continuous Shooting: In the Program mode, the camera will continuously take pictures at approximately 2.5 frames per second, as long as you hold down the shutter button. The image size is not limited, and the focus and exposure are determined when you press the shutter button halfway. In High Speed Burst mode, the camera will continuously take pictures at approximately 7.2 shots per second with the recording pixel setting at 2592 x 1944.

Metering Modes: You can select from the following metering modes:

    • Evaluative: used for standard conditions. The area within the frame is divided into several zones and light is measured based on subject position, brightness, direct light and backlighting.
    • Center-Weighted Averaging: averages the exposure from the entire image, but places more weight on the subject at the center
    • Spot: meters the area within the spot AE point at the center of the LCD monitor or viewfinder

Exposure Compensation: If you are shooting against a bright background or strong backlight, you may need to correct the exposure so that the subject doesn't come out too dark. You can set the adjustments from -2 to +2 in 1/3-step increments.

White Balance: You can choose from the following white balance settings: Auto, Daylight, Cloudy, Tungsten, Fluorescent, Fluorescent H, and Custom.

Flash Modes: The PowerShot ELPH 350 HS has a built-in flash with a range of 1.6' to 13' in Wide Angle and 3.3' to 6.6' in Telephoto. You can select Auto (flash fires in low light), On (flash always fires), Slow Synchro (illuminates subject in foreground while the slow shutter speed brightens the background not reached by the flash), or Off (flash doesn't fire). In the menu, you can turn on the Red-Eye Reduction lamp for the flash, and apply Red-Eye Correction to the images that have been taken.

ISO Speed: The ISO speed can be set Automatically (ISO Auto), or manually to ISO 80, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, and 3200. Lowering the ISO speed results in sharper images but there's a greater chance of subject or image blurring in certain shooting conditions. Raising the ISO speed results in a faster shutter speed, reducing blurred images. The images, however, will appear more coarse.

Self-Timer: The ELPH 350 HS utilizes a 10-second, 2-second, and a custom self-timer to allow the photographer to be included in the shot, or to avoid camera shake when using a tripod. The custom self-timer allows you to set the time delay to 1-15, 20, 25, or 30 seconds for up to 10 shots.

Blink Detector: The camera can detect when the subject may have closed their eyes when the photo was taken. When Blink Detection is on, a frame is displayed around the person(s) whose eyes are closed. This feature does not work in continuous shooting mode.

    Built-in Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi: Built-in Wi-Fi in the ELPH 350 HS allows you to wirelessly send and receive images and control the camera remotely. There are numerous devices with which you can wirelessly connect:

    • Smartphones and Tablets: Using the Camera Connect app, you can send images to smartphones and tablets with Wi-Fi capability. You can also shoot remotely, and geotag your images using the GPS information from the smartphone or tablet.

After you have registered your device on the camera, a simple press of the button connects the two together and launches the Camera Connect app on the mobile device.

Near-Field Communications (NFC): When using an NFC-compatible Android smartphone (OS version 4.0 or later), you can install Camera Connect software, connect to the camera, and choose and send images to the smartphone from the camera, simply by touching the two devices together. Touching the NFC "N-mark", located on the left edge of the camera, to the phone's N-mark will instantly launch the app, and allow you to choose images to send.

Compatibility: The ELPH 350 HS is compatible with iPhone/iPad using iOS versions 6.0, 6.1, 7.0, 7.1, 8.0 or 8.1 (or higher). Customer Q&A

    3 questions already asked

    Q
Can you adjust the shutter speed? And if not, is there a long drag/delay between pressing the shutter button and having the shutter go off?
    thomas  May 17, 2015
    1 answer
    A
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: We haven't had a chance to research this camera yet. There are likely some adjustments you can make that will impact shutter speed, but at this point we can't say for certain. However, I can tell you that with newer cameras there is almost no lag time between pressing the button and the shutter going off. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
