CANON AUTHORIZED DEALER

Canon engineered its professional-grade EOS 1D Mark IV from the ground up to give photographers the power to capture stunning, high-resolution still and video images under the most challenging conditions. Whether it's recording sports events, photo journalism, wildlife photography, or even high-pressure studio work, this rugged camera delivers all the speed and reliability that pros demand. And its ability to accept a vast range of high-quality Canon lenses and accessories provides superior picture-taking versatility.

Crisp, accurate images at lightning-fast speeds
The Mark IV teams up a 16.1-megapixel CMOS sensor with two image processors for rapid-fire continuous shooting. You'll capture fantastic action sequences with spot-on exposures at up to an astonishing 10 frames per second. And your pictures will be sharply focused, too, thanks to Canon's new auto focus system. This advanced system includes 39 highly sensitive cross-type sensors — the most we've seen on any camera yet — for ultra-precise focusing no matter where your subjects appear in the frame.

Exceptional low-light performance
This beefy SLR features the widest sensitivity range ever offered in a Canon camera to ensure you never miss a shot due to poor lighting conditions. Its extended high ISO settings make it ideal for night shots or indoor settings, where the lack of light or restrictions on flash use would normally make shooting impossible. The Mark IV is also the first professional EOS camera to offer Canon's Auto Lighting Optimizer, which automatically corrects the contrast and brightness of your images as they're recorded. You'll save valuable time with accurate, print-ready shots that don't need retouching.

Review your pictures and movies with brilliant clarity
The Mark IV's high-resolution 3" LCD screen provides a crystal-clear window for evaluating shots and sharing images. It also boasts live view modes that let you compose photos and videos on-screen in real time. A protective tempered glass cover and anti-reflective coating help keep the LCD scratch-free and highly visible, even in strongly back lit viewing situations.

Built tough — inside and out
Canon wraps all this versatile technology in a rugged magnesium alloy body, for a solid, substantial feel and protection from the rigors of heavy use. Rubber seals around the camera's control surfaces and seams help block out the elements. Pair the Mark IV with Canon's weather-sealed EF lenses and Speedlite EX flashes, and you can keep on shooting right through a rainstorm or a windy day on the beach. And to further ensure a long life, Canon gave this SLR a highly durable shutter designed to fire up to 300,000 times.

Recording Features

Lens Compatibility: The Canon EOS-1D Mark IV is compatible with all Canon lenses in the EF lineup (with the exception of EF-S lenses).

Rugged Exterior Body: The EOS-1D Mark IV's magnesium alloy chassis is designed to endure almost any condition. All of the camera's controls, buttons, and external covers are dust- and water-resistant. The durable shutter mechanism is designed to shoot 300,000 cycles.

Viewfinder: The EOS-1D Mark IV features an eye-level pentaprism viewfinder that offers 100 percent coverage vertically and horizontally. The built-in diopter lets you adjust the focus of the viewfinder to your own eyesight. The viewfinder has a built-in eyepiece shutter, which blocks stray light from entering the camera while taking a picture without looking at the viewfinder.

Clear View LCD Monitor: The EOS-1D Mark IV features a 3" Clear View II TFT color LCD monitor with approximately 920,000 dots and a 160° angle of view. It features a tempered glass protective cover with an anti-reflective film and a new resin filling between the actual LCD and glass cover that helps minimize internal reflections and further improves visibility in bright viewing situations.

Live View: The Live View Function enables you to compose and shoot directly from the camera's 3" LCD monitor. You can zoom in and navigate the composition at 5x or 10x normal size for critical focusing and attention to detail. Live View Function can be used remotely via computer through the USB connection, if desired.

16.1 MP CMOS Sensor: The EOS-1D Mark IV features a high-resolution, APS-H sized (27.9 x 18.6 mm) CMOS sensor with approximately 17-million total pixels and 16.1-million effective pixels. The camera's self-cleaning sensor unit shakes off dust automatically whenever you turn the power switch on or off.

Dual DIGIC 4 Image Processors: The camera is equipped with dual DIGIC 4 Image Processors, which can process images at full resolution up to 10 frames-per-second. The combination of the CMOS sensor and Dual DIGIC 4 processors help to give you high quality images that are recorded with speed and accuracy.

Recording Media: The EOS-1D Mark IV has dual memory card slots to accommodate both Compact Flash and SD Memory cards. The camera can record images on Type I or Type II CompactFlash Cards, including Ultra-DMA (UDMA) CF cards. The camera is also compatible with SD/SDHC Memory Cards. When both types of cards are loaded into the camera, you can choose to record either on a CF card or an SD card, or to both simultaneously.

Note: No recording media is supplied with the camera.

Image Recording Format: The camera records 3:2 still images in JPEG and RAW (14-bit) formats. Simultaneous RAW+JPEG recording is also possible. In addition, the camera can record video with monaural audio in the MOV format (Video: MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, Audio: Linear PCM). You can select from the following image sizes and formats:

  • JPEG Image Resolution/Compression: You can choose from the following JPEG resolutions: Large (16MP: 4896 x 3264), Medium 1 (12.4MP: 4320 x 2880 pixels), Medium 2 (8.4MP: 3552 x 2368) and Small (4MP: 2448 x 1632 pixels). For each resolution, you can set the compression between 1 and 10 (1-5 Normal; 6-10 Fine).
  • RAW Format: The RAW file format records the image data as captured by the camera CMOS sensor without further processing and converts it to digital data and records it onto the card as is. RAW images can be adjusted, then developed and produced into JPEG or TIFF images using the provided software. You can choose from the following RAW resolutions: RAW (16MP: 4896 x 3264), M-RAW (9MP: 3672 x 2448), or S-RAW (4MP: 2448 x 1632). You can also record any size JPEG image (L, M1, M2, S) simultaneously with any sized RAW image (RAW, M-RAW, S-RAW).
  • MOV Format (Video: H.264, Audio: Linear PCM): The EOS-1D Mark IV supports 1920 x 1080 (30/25/24 fps) and 1280 x 720 (60/50 fps) in HD (high definition) mode and 640 x 480 (60/50 fps) in SD (standard definition) mode. The camera can record continuously until the file size reaches 4 GB or the movie time reaches 29 min 59 sec.

Note: Video recording is only available in Live View Mode using the camera's LCD monitor.

Drive Modes: The Canon EOS-1D Mark IV offers the following Drive (Shutter) modes.

  • Single Shooting: When you press the shutter button completely, one shot will be taken.
  • Continuous Shooting: While you press the shutter button completely, shots will be taken continuously:
    • High-Speed: maximum 10 shots per second
    • Low-Speed: maximum 3 shots per second
  • Self-Timer: The camera will record an image 2 or 10 seconds after pressing the shutter button.
  • Silent Single Shooting: The shooting sound for single shooting is quieter than normal. The internal mechanical operation is not executed until you return the shutter button to its halfway position.

Vertical Grip: The camera bottom has vertical-grip buttons and a dial that allows you to operate the camera more comfortably while taking vertical photographs. You can switch the vertical-grip controls on or off as needed.

AF System: The EOS-1D Mark IV has a newly developed, high-precision Area AF sensor with 45 manually selectable points, including 39 cross-type, high-precision AF points for exacting and fast focusing no matter the subject. New AI Servo II focus tracking features improved algorithms that help improve stability, reliability, and focus, no matter the situation.

Shooting Modes: The EOS-1D Mark IV offers the following shooting modes:

  • Program AE: This is a general-purpose shooting mode, the camera automatically sets the shutter speed and aperture value to suit the scene's brightness
  • Shutter-priority AE: In this mode, you set the shutter speed and the camera automatically sets the aperture value to suit the brightness of the subject
  • Aperture-priority AE: In this mode, you set the desired aperture value and the camera sets the shutter speed automatically to suit the subject brightness
  • Manual Exposure: In this mode, you set both the shutter speed and aperture value as desired
  • Bulb Exposures: When bulb is set, the shutter is open during the time you keep pressing the shutter button fully. Bulb is useful when a long exposure is necessary for capturing night scenes, fireworks, the night sky, etc.

Exposure Compensation: In Program AE, Shutter-priority AE, or Aperture-priority AE modes, exposure compensation is used to alter the camera's standard exposure setting. You can make the image look lighter (increased exposure) or darker (decreased exposure). The exposure compensation amount can be set up to +/-3 stops in 1/3-stop or 1/2-stop increments.

Auto Exposure Bracketing: With auto exposure bracketing (AEB), the camera automatically changes the exposure level up to +/-3 stops in 1/3-stop increments for three successive shots.

AE Lock: AE lock enables you to lock the exposure at a different place from the point of focus. After locking the exposure, you can recompose the shot while maintaining the desired exposure level. This feature is useful for backlit and spotlighted subjects.

63-Zone Dual-Layer Metering Sensor: The EOS-1D Mark IV features a 63 zone dual-layer sensor designed to complement the 45-point AF system. You can select from the following metering modes:

  • Evaluative Metering: The camera's standard metering mode suited for most subjects even under backlit conditions, after detecting the main subject's position, brightness, background, front and back lighting conditions, etc, the camera sets the proper exposure
  • Partial Metering: Effective when the background is much brighter than the subject due to backlighting, etc, uses approximately 13.5% of the viewfinder area, weighted at the center.
  • Spot Metering: For metering a specific part of the subject, uses approximately 3.8% of the viewfinder area at the center.
  • Center-weighted Average Metering: Metering is weighted at the center and then averaged for the entire scene

ISO Speed: The camera's ISO speed can be set between 100 and 12800 in 1/3-stop or 1-stop increments to suit your shooting conditions. In addition the camera features an Auto ISO setting which allows the camera to automatically set the ISO speed. The ISO Speed is fixed to 400 with flash, and during "bulb" shooting. The Custom Function feature allows you to expand the ISO Range to ISO 50 (L) for the lowest speed, and ISO 25600 (H1), ISO 51200 (H2) or ISO102400 (H3) for the highest speed.

External Flash: The camera is compatible with Canon's external EX-series Speedlites (sold separately) mounted to the hot shoe, with functions settable with the camera. It has no built-in flash. Non-Canon flash units can synchronize with the camera at 1/300 or 1/250 sec. or slower. The camera's PC terminal can be used with flash units having a sync cord.

Picture Style: By selecting a picture style you can achieve various effects matching your photographic expression or the subject. You can also adjust the Sharpness, Contrast, Saturation and Color tone of each Picture Style. Picture Style selections include:
