Fans of telephoto shooting will appreciate the high-quality optics and zoom power of this Canon lens. Pair it with your compatible Canon digital SLR camera for crisp, vibrant photos of all your favorite subjects. Its UD (Ultra-Low Dispersion) glass element ensures accurate, razor-sharp images.
Image Stabilization technology lets you shoot in-focus photographs in all sorts of lighting conditions. We've all taken a picture and had it turn out blurry because our hands moved a little while we were capturing the shot. Image Stabilization works around this problem. Built-in motion sensors steer a special set of optical elements inside the lens, neatly compensating for camera movement and stabilizing the image. You get much sharper pictures — even in low-light environments where hand motion can easily cause blurred images with a regular lens.

Pros: sharp pictures
Cons: noisy lens motor
One of my first lenses I've purchased. Pretty good for what you pay for.
I'm new to digital SLR photography, and purchased this lens so I could get better faraway shots. It works great! The IS keeps the shots relatively blur-free. I love that I can zoom in on people (my kids) from a distance and get candid shots without disrupting them or asking them to pose.
Pros: Clear pictures, good zoom length, Image Stabilization
Cons: Pretty bulky if you're new to DSLR photography - takes some getting used to
wonderful far away shots
It is a nice addition to the kit lens. You get a lot of lens for the price. Being a EF-S lens it is optimized for smaller sensors. Having purchased it for my T3i, it is perfect for what I need it for.
Cons: EF-S not EF. Would not be able to use with a Full Frame camera if you ever get one. Not a deal breaker.
Pros: only own The Lens For three Weeks , The flash worked OK.
Excellent lense for my Canon Rebel XS. Easy to use in all modes and produces great shots. I could not be more pleased, and thanks to Crutchfield for checking to make sure it would fit my camera.
Having always used Canon Lenses, it came as no surprise to me the quality and speed of this lens! Very fast focusing and the crispest of photos is what you can expect from this quality lens... And of course, Crutchfield was a great company to get it from. So glad they are now carrying photography equipment! Thanks, Bill

Compatibility: The Canon EFS 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS telephoto zoom lens is compatible with select Canon EOS DSLR cameras, including the following - EOS 40D, EOS 30D, EOS 20D, EOS Digital Rebel, EOS Digital Rebel XT, and EOS Digital Rebel XTi.
Telephoto Zoom Lens With Optical Image Stabilizer: This telephoto zoom lens is designed with Canon's Optical Image Stabilizer technology while retaining compactness and lightness. This high zoom ratio lens is equivalent to a focal length of 88-400mm in the 35mm format (when used on Canon EOS cameras compatible with EF-S lenses), and the image stabilizer effect equivalent to a shutter speed about 4 stops faster than the same size lens without Image Stabilizer. In other words, if the slowest shutter speed you could formerly hold a 250mm lens steadily was 1/250th of a second, with Canon's 4-stop stabilization correction, you could hand-hold at shutter speeds as slow as 1/15th of a second. It also uses a UD-glass lens element to correct chromatic aberration for excellent image quality throughout the zoom range.
Auto/Manual Focus Modes: To shoot in autofocus mode, you must set the focus mode switch on the lens to "AF." To manually focus the camera, you must set the switch to "MF," and focus by turning the focusing ring.
Optional Accessories (available from Canon): You can attach optional filters (58 mm) to the filter mounting thread on the front of the lens. You can also use the following optional extension tube: EF 12 II or EF25 II. In addition, by attaching the optional 250D or 500D (58mm) close-up lens enables close-up photography. Magnification will be 0.23x-1.42x for the 250D close-up lens and 0.11x-0.86x for the 500D close-up lens.
