I've always bought HP printers and that was my intention when I decided to look at multi-function units. I looked at the HP's first but then looked them up in electronic magazines and overall they rated the Canon PIXMA ahead of the HP's. Also, looked at reviews on line and got the same feedback. I was also looking for a scanner that was capable of scanning slides and didn't find that many that had that option. I have ~3,000 slides in Kodak Carousel Trays. I wanted to convert a lot of these to digital pictures. I've only tried one thus far, it was a picture of my wife that was taken ~ 40 years ago and the results looked like it was taken yesterday. One of the first things I did was try the copy function. The results were excellent, it was hard to tell the original vs. the copy. The PIXMA was very easy to set up and easy to use. The selection button on top lets you select various options, i.e. copy, scan, memory card, etc. Its very user friendly and you can go through these functions w/o even ready the manual. I would have rated it 5 stars but I've read several places that it uses ink up pretty fast and it has 6 individual in cartridges and they're not very large. That was one of the things I liked with HP was that they had large cartridges and you could do a lot of printing before they ran out. Time will tell! Crutchfield had the best price on line taken into account the rebate offer, free shipping and a fast delivery.

I used to be a die hard HP printer fan, but the drive unit for picking up photo paper was less than to be desired. So, with reservation I was convinced by a Canon Rep. to try the CANON PIXMA MP980, this is the best printer I have ever had. The quality is outstanding and easy of use is fantastic, and by the way, NO MORE feeding problems.
I am vary happy with the PM980 and recommend it to anyone in need of a great printer to contact Crutchfield, their service and delivery of my item went without a hitch.

Printer is what I expected based on reviews and specifications that I researched prior to purchasing. The printer produces high quality photo prints (4X6 and 5X7 so far). I do not use the printer for B&W general printing as I have a laserjet printer for that. The printer was very easy to setup and attach to my home network. I am using it wired (Ethernet) connection, not the wireless connection. The printer is accessible by any of the 5 PC's that I have on my network. Wirelessly through an Access Point.
I am very pleased with the printer, it was a gift for my wife who uses it to print digital images she takes with her Canon G9 camera.
I went through the Yellow, Cyan, and Gray cartridges (ones that came with the printer) after printing 120 4X6 prints. I need to do the math to see what this would cost/print, difficult because the remainder of the cartridges still have ink.
All in all a great printer.
