CANON AUTHORIZED DEALER

Take Canon's popular line of Digital Rebel SLRs, with their classic combination of value and high-performance features. Then add even more megapixels, a superb LCD viewscreen, and HD movie mode, and you've got the exceptional Canon Digital Rebel T1i.

Capture crisp 15-megapixel images
Serious photographers and occasional shooters alike will appreciate the T1i's 15-megapixel photos — it's easy to crop out the portion you want to keep and then enlarge it for detail-rich prints. The 3" LCD has 920,000 dots for a clear, accurate view. That precision is helpful when reviewing photos you've already taken or using Live View mode to compose your shot.

Record movies in HD
The Canon T1i is the first Digital Rebel to offer an HD movie mode; no more carrying a second camera or camcorder around just in case you need to capture a few minutes of video. It's easy to start shooting — just switch from photo mode to movie mode and use the shutter button to start and stop recording. And you can shoot in three different resolutions: the first two are HD, and the third is approximately DVD quality. In addition, the T1i's mini HDMI output lets you connect the camera to your HDTV with an optional cable to check out your latest photos and high-def videos.

Advanced processing and self-cleaning CMOS image sensor
The T1i boasts Canon's Digic 4 processor, for even better processing and more responsive handling of photos. It also employs high-sensitivity, low-noise CMOS sensor technology to deliver pristine images with minimal grain. And this sensor is self-cleaning — it uses ultrasonic vibrations to remove dust particles that can cause spots on your photos.

Capture beautiful, blur-free images
An upgraded 9-point wide-area autofocus system ensures fast, accurate focusing for crisp shots, even in dim lighting. Clever features like Auto Lighting Optimizer and Highlight Tone Priority help you shoot well-exposed shots even when deep shadows threaten to darken a subject's face, or bright light is washing out little details. And the included Canon 18-55mm image-stabilizing zoom lens gives you outstanding, blur-free photos under all kinds of shooting conditions. Capture your images on optional SD™ memory cards — no memory included.

Features

Overview: This Canon SLR kit includes the EOS Rebel T1i camera body and the EFS 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 IS zoom lens. In addition to still photos, the T1i also records motion video in high definition, up to 1920 x 1080. The T1i records images on an SD or SDHC memory card (No memory card is supplied with the camera).

Movie Mode: In addition to still photos, the Rebel T1i records video in HD (High Definition) or SD (Standard Definition). Select Movie mode on the mode dial and the camera's 3.0-inch LCD lights up and is ready to go. Video is recorded at a frame rate of 30 fps when shooting in 640 x 480 (SD) and 1280 x 720 (HD) pixels, and at 20 fps in 1920 x 1080 (HD) pixels. Sound is recorded through the camera's built-in microphone. Playback modes are simple to access, and all Live View AF features can be used when shooting video. HD video is output through the mini-HDMI jack.

Viewfinder: The Canon EOS Rebel T1i uses an eye-level pentamirror viewfinder with 0.87x magnification and approximately 95% vertical and horizontal coverage. It has a diopter adjustment so you can focus the viewfinder to suit your eyesight (with or without eyeglasses). If your eye doesn't cover the viewfinder when a picture is taken (using Live View or the timer), stray light can enter the eyepiece and affect the exposure when the image is captured. To prevent this, use the supplied eyepiece cover (attached to the neck strap) to cover the eyepiece.

Clear View LCD Monitor: The 3" Clear View TFT color LCD monitor has approximately 920,000 dots. On the LCD you can view menu screens, stored files, and frame new images in real-time. The LCD monitor offers 100% viewing coverage and 7 brightness levels to choose from.

Live View: The Live View Function enables viewing your subjects directly on the camera's 3" LCD monitor. The camera allows you to magnify any part of the scene 5x or 10x for precise manual focusing. You can access a number of Auto Focusing modes including Quick Mode, Live Mode, and Face Detection AF. Exposure simulation displays and simulates how the brightness of the actual image will look. You can choose one of two grid overlay options for the LCD screen to help you line up vertical and horizontal lines. In a Studio, the camera can be controlled remotely via a computer through a USB connection while the frame is displayed in the computer screen.

Note: Live View shooting does not work when the camera is in one of the Basic Zone modes.

15.1 Megapixel CMOS Sensor: Canon's large-area CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) sensor captures images with exceptional clarity and tonal range. It has approximately 15.5 million total pixels and 15.1 million effective pixels. This APS-C sized sensor (22.3mm x 14.9mm) has the same 3:2 ratio as film cameras, enabling an effective angle of view that is 1.6x the normal EF Lens focal length.

DIGIC 4 Image Processor: The next generation DIGIC 4 Image Processor uses advanced signal processing technologies to provide faster operations and write times to the memory card. The chip also enables Face Detection Live mode to detect and focus on multiple faces, while the Auto Lighting Optimizer corrects brightness and contrast automatically.

14-Bit A/D Conversion: 14-bit A/D (analog-to-digital) conversion means extremely fine tonal gradations from light to dark tones, and a significant drop in digital and shadow noise.

Image Recording Format: The camera records 3:2 still images in JPEG and RAW (14-bit) formats. Motion video is captured in 16:9 (HD) or 4:3 (640 x 480) aspect ratios.

JPEG Image Resolution/Compression: You can choose from three JPEG resolutions: Large (4752 x 3168 pixels), Medium (3456 x 2304 pixels), and Small (2352 x 1568 pixels). For each resolution, you can set the compression to Fine or Normal.

RAW File Format: The RAW file format records the image data as captured by the camera's CMOS sensor without further processing and converts it to digital data and records it onto the card as is. RAW images can be adjusted, then developed and produced into JPEG or TIFF images using the provided software. The RAW resolution is 4752 x 3168 and a Large/Fine JPEG image can be stored along with a RAW image simultaneously.

EOS Integrated Cleaning System: Dust that settles on the camera's sensor surface is removed using ultrasonic vibration. This Self Cleaning Sensor Unit routine is automatically activated whenever the camera is powered on or off; it can also be manually activated. If visible dust still remains, you can delete the effect of the dust particles from the image via the supplied software.

Shooting Modes: The EOS Rebel T1i offers 13 different still photo shooting modes arranged in the following zones:

  • Basic Zone:
    • Full Auto: the camera automatically selects all settings
    • Creative Auto: in this auto mode you can adjust the picture's brightness, flash mode, depth of field, color tone, etc
    • Portrait: blurs the background to make the human subject stand out
    • Landscape: this mode is for wide scenic views, night scenes, etc; near and far subjects are in focus
    • Close-up: use this mode to take close-up shots of flowers, insects, etc
    • Sports: for moving subjects when you want to freeze the action
    • Night Portrait: this mode is for images of people at twilight or at night, while maintaining a natural looking background exposure
    • Flash Off: disables the flash
  • Advanced Zone:
    • Program AE (P): this is a general-purpose shooting mode, the camera automatically sets the shutter speed and aperture value to suit the scene's brightness
    • Shutter-priority AE (Tv): in this mode, you set the shutter speed and the camera automatically sets the aperture value to suit the brightness of the subject
    • Aperture-priority AE (Av): in this mode, you set the desired aperture value and the camera sets the shutter speed automatically to suit the subject brightness
    • Manual Exposure (M): in this mode, you set both the shutter speed and aperture value as desired
    • Automatic Depth-of-field AE (A-DEP): this mode is for obtaining a wide depth of field automatically between a near subject and far subject

9-point Autofocus System: The Rebel T1i has a precision 9-point AF system for speedy and accurate focusing in any situation. In the basic shooting modes all 9 AF points are active. In the advanced shooting modes you can easily choose your own point of focus.

AF Modes: The camera employs one of 3 AF systems to let you seize every photo opportunity with fast, accurate focus:

  • One-Shot AF: suited for still subjects, the camera focuses only once
  • AI Servo AF: for moving subjects when the focusing distance keeps changing; the subject will be focused continuously while the shutter button is pressed halfway.
  • AI Focus AF: switches from One-Shot AF to AI Servo AF automatically if the subject starts moving

ISO Speed: When shooting in Basic Zone modes, ISO speed is automatically set between 100 and 1600 to suit the shooting conditions. In Creative Zone modes, ISO speed may be set from 100 to 3200 in 1/3 stop increments. When ISO Expansion is turned on, you can also select an ISO speed of 6400 or 12800.

White Balance: You can choose from the following white balance settings:

  • Auto: the camera sets the white balance automatically according to shooting conditions
  • Daylight: for recording outdoors on a bright day; color temperature approximately 5200 K
  • Shade: counters strong blue tones in open shade on sunny days; color temperature approximately 7000 K
  • Cloudy: for cloudy days, dusk and dawn; color temperature approximately 6000 K
  • Tungsten Light: for incandescent illumination; color temperature approximately 3200 K
  • White Fluorescent Light: eliminates typical green color casts; color temperature approximately 4000 K
  • Flash Use: a starting point for studio strobes and Canon Speedlites
  • Custom: enables you to manually set the white balance for a specific light source for better accuracy; by selecting an image, you import the white balance data for the setting
  • White Balance Correction: you can correct the standard color temperature for the white balance setting; this has the same effect as using a color temperature conversion filter or a color compensating filter; each color can be corrected to one of nine levels
  • White Balance Auto Bracketing: with just one shot, three images having different color tones can be recorded simultaneously; based on the current white balance mode's standard color temperature, the white balance setting can be changed from 0 to +/-3 stops in whole-stop increments

Color Space: The color space refers to the range of reproducible colors. With this camera, you can set the color space for captured images to sRGB or Adobe RGB. For normal images, sRGB is recommended. In the Basic Zone modes sRGB is set automatically.

Picture Style: By selecting a picture style you can achieve various effects matching your photographic expression or the subject. Picture Style setting is not available in Basic Zone modes. Picture Style selections include:

  • Standard: image looks vivid, sharp, and crisp
  • Portrait: for nice skin tones, the image looks softer, color tone can be adjusted to change skin tone
  • Landscape: vivid blues and greens, very sharp and crisp image
  • Neutral: natural colors and subdued images, no sharpness applied; recommended for users who prefer to process images on their PC
  • Faithful: when the subject is photographed under a color temperature of 5200 K, the color is adjusted colorimetrically to match the subject's color, the image is dull and subdued; recommended for users who prefer to process images on their PC
  • Monochrome: for black and white images
  • User Defined 1-3: you can register your own style with desired adjustments

Exposure Compensation: Exposure compensation is used to alter the camera's standard exposure setting. You can make the image look lighter (increased exposure) or darker (decreased exposure). The exposure compensation amount can be set up to +/-2 stops in 1/3-stop increments.

Auto Exposure Bracketing: With auto exposure bracketing (AEB), the camera automatically varies the exposure level and records three photos; one with the set exposure, one lighter, and one darker.

AE Lock: AE lock enables you to lock the exposure at a different place from the point of focus. After locking the exposure, you can recompose the shot while maintaining the desired exposure level. This feature is useful for backlit and spotlighted subjects.

Bulb Exposures: When bulb is set, the shutter is open during the time you keep pressing the shutter button fully. Bulb is useful when a long exposure is necessary for capturing night scenes, fireworks, the night sky, etc. Using a tripod is recommended.

FE Lock: FE (flash exposure) lock obtains and locks the correct flash exposure reading for any part of a subject.

Red-Eye Reduction: Using the camera's Red-Eye reduction lamp before taking a flash picture will reduce the common phenomenon of red-eye effect.

Metering Modes: You can select from the following metering modes:

  • Evaluative Metering: the camera's standard metering mode suited for most subjects even under backlit conditions, after detecting the main subject's position, brightness, background, front and back lighting conditions, etc, the camera sets the proper exposure
  • Partial Metering: effective when the background is much brighter than the subject due to backlighting, etc; uses a small area in the center of the frame to set the exposure
  • Spot Metering: for metering a specific part of the subject
  • Center-weighted Average Metering: metering is weighted at the center and then averaged for the entire scene

Continuous Shooting Mode: During continuous shooting mode, the camera stores approximately 3.4 images per second. The maximum burst during continuous recording depends on the image quality:

Self-Timer: The timer allows you to take a picture 2 or 10 seconds after pressing the shutter button. Another setting records from 2 to 10 images continuously after a 10 second delay.

Mirror Lockup: The Mirror Lockup feature helps prevent camera vibration when using a super telephoto lens or shooting close-ups.

Auto Rotation: Vertical shots can be rotated automatically so that they are displayed upright during playback.

Image Review: The image can be displayed on the LCD monitor immediately after it's taken. The review time can be set to off (not displayed), 2 seconds, 4 seconds, 8 seconds, or Hold, which keeps the image displayed on the LCD monitor until the camera is focused again or the auto power off function eges.

Slide Show: You can view all images on the memory card one after another with the Auto Playback function (slide show). The time each image is displayed on the LCD monitor can be set to 1 second, 2 seconds, 3 seconds or 5 seconds. PictBridge is a new standard that allows you to connect a PictBridge compliant camera directly to a PictBridge compliant printer and make prints, regardless of brand.

Exif Print (Exif 2.21): The Canon EOS Rebel T1i conforms to Exif Print, a worldwide standard. Vital camera settings (such as exposure mode, white balance, exposure time) and scene data are recorded to the image file when it is captured. Printers compatible with Exif Print are able to use this information to produce high quality photographs, exactly the way they were intended at the time of capture. This intelligent communication process also allows the printer to correct for poor lighting or mistakes, resulting in photos that can be even better than the originals.
