This tripod adapter is a must have for any Canon XF300 or 305 owner. As a videographer that shoots a lot of weddings, it easily and quickly allows you to get tripod mounted. Very useful.

Pros: Very easy to install and use

Cons: A bit pricey but worth it

Overview: The Canon TA-100 Tripod Adapter allows you to quickly mount or un-mount a Canon professional camcorder to and from a tripod.

Compatibility: The TA-100 is compatible with the following camcorders:

  • EOS C300, EOS C300 PL
  • XF100, XF105, XF300, XF305
  • XH A1, XH A1S
  • XH G1, XH G1S
  • XL H1, XL H1A, XL H1S
  • XL2

Mounting: The TA-100's base plate attaches to the camcorder with the included 4mm screws. The tripod adapter has three 3/8" mounting screw holes and four 1/4" standard mounting screw holes. The camcorder with the base plate mounted slides along the guide rails until it clicks and locks into place. The camcorder should be mounted to the tripod so that its weight is balanced. The tripod adapter has a release lever and a red unlock lever for quickly removing the camcorder from the tripod.

Solid construction

I knew this adapter was machined metal, but it wasn't until I took it out of the box that I realized just how rugged the TA-100 is. And that's good. Even the quick-release trigger is metal, so it will hold up to harsh treatment (I tend not to be gentle with these things). Only one problem; the TA-100 is actually better built than my tripod. Maybe it's time for an upgrade...
