LCD Screen
Technology: Liquid Crystal Television works by trapping a liquid
crystal solution between two sheets of polarized glass. When an electric current
is passed through the liquid crystals, each crystal either blocks or allows
light to pass through it based on the broadcast information. For clear, crisp
color that rivals traditional CRT displays, a thin film transistor, known as a
TFT is employed. This LCD TV features Sharp's own Advanced Super View (ASV)
panel with anti-glare Black TFT LCD technology. Even in harsh light conditions,
such as fluorescent light or direct sunlight, this low reflection coating
ensures an optimal contrast ratio for a crisp, vivid picture. The LCD panel is
backlit by Sharp's advanced Directly-Light system to increase contrast and image
clarity. This design also allows the TV to be much lighter and much more shallow
than conventional CRT TVs. Unlike a standard CRT tube, the
LCD does not use an electron beam, so the LCD display is not susceptible to
distortion from a nearby magnet (ex: speaker).
Flat Screen/Viewing Angles:
The flat screen delivers images that are virtually distortion free and helps
eliminate screen glare. Its extra-wide viewing angles (170 degrees horizontal
and vertical) allow you to see a clear picture from most anywhere in the room.
Picture Resolution: The screen
measures 13-1/16" diagonally, and has a resolution of 640 x 480.
This TV is compatible with 480p (from Progressive Scan DVD players and DTV boxes
through the component video input) as well as 480i images.
3-Line Y/C Comb Filter:
The 3-Line Y/C Comb Filter gives you superior picture detail and resolution.
Lamp Life: The expected life of
the backlight lamp is 60,000 hours, which equates to ten hours use a day for
more than sixteen years.
Multi-format
Compatibility: This TV is compatible with the following Video formats:
NTSC (N358), N443, PAL, PAL-M, PAL-N, PAL-60, and SECAM. It is also compatible
with the following TV Tuner formats: NTSC, PAL-M and PAL-N.
181-Channel PLL Tuner:
This TV has a built-in, 181-channel Electronic PLL tuner, capable of
receiving both over-the-air and cable TV channels.
Picture Flip: To accommodate
the wide variety of mounting angles and positions, you can change the
orientation of the picture for proper viewing. The Picture Flip feature offers a
Normal image, Mirror image, Rotated image or an Upside Down image.
Brightness: The intensity of
the LCD's backlighting can be manually adjusted, or set to Auto. The manual settings are Bright (100%), Normal
(60%, suitable for viewing in a well-lit room--saves energy), or Dark (10%, suitable for
viewing in a dimly lit room). When set to "Auto", the screen
brightness adjusts according to the ambient light in the room to conserve power
consumption. The OPC (Optical Picture Control) sensor is located on the front
panel, and the OPC indicator lights green when Brightness is set to
"Auto".
Video Adjustments: In the Video
Adjust menu, you can adjust the Picture (contrast), Tint, Color Intensity, Black
level, Sharpness Red-Blue and Green with variable settings, or reset all of the
settings to the factory values. You can also choose the Color System (NTSC, PAL,
SECAM, etc) you are using.
Audio Only Mode: When you only
want to listen to the audio portion of a program, such as a music program, you
can turn off the LCD display by using the Audio Only mode.
V-Chip Parental
Control: This feature allows you to limit the shows that can be viewed
based on the TV Parental Guidelines and a movie's MPAA rating. After setting
Parental Control "On", you must enter the 4-digit password to view
blocked programs.
Sleep Timer: This TV can be set
to turn itself off in 30, 60, 90, 120 or 150 minutes.
Auto Power Off: This feature,
when activated, turns off the TV power when no signal is received for 5 minutes.
MTS: The broadcast sound
reception can be set to Stereo, Mono, or SAP (Second Audio Program).
Removable Stand:
The Sharp LC-13S1U comes with an adjustable easel-type table stand with an
integrated carrying handle. The bottom of the TV rests directly on the table or
shelf and the stand holds the unit upright at a 12° angle (The TV cannot be set
up straight). The TV can be adjusted for the best viewing angle between 12° and
35°. For wall mounting, the stand can be removed by loosening 4 screws.
VESA Mounting Bracket
Standard: The stand's mounting holes can be used for attaching an optional
wall-mount or ceiling-mount bracket. The spacing of the mounting holes is VESA
100 (millimeters) compatible, in accordance with the industry standards set by the Video
Electronics Standards Association.
Built-in Speakers: The
TV features front-mounted built-in stereo speakers, located below the
screen. Each speaker features a single, full-range, 2-15/16" x 1-3/16" (7-1/2 cm
x 3 cm) driver.
Remote Control (GA174WJSA): The
supplied remote controls the TV's basic functions, and allows you to navigate
through the TV's setup and settings menus.
Inputs
and Outputs Notes
Cable Management: The input and
output jacks on the back of the TV are located at right angles and recessed to
reduce the overall depth of the unit. The component video, AV-In1, RF and power
inputs are located behind a removable panel cover. The AV-In2/Out jacks are also
recessed and located near the edge of the side panel for easy access. A cable
clamp is supplied for bundling the cables to the back of the stand.
Headphone Jack: There is a
stereo 1/8" mini-jack on the front panel of the TV. When headphones are plugged into this
jack, the speakers in the TV are muted.
Component Video Input: The
component video input can accept either progressive-scan (480p) or
interlaced-scan (480i) video signals.
AV In2/Out Jacks: The AV
In2/Out connections (stereo RCA jacks/composite and S-video) are mounted on the
side panel, and are easily accessible, even when the TV is wall mounted.
Note: These jacks are included in the total of 3 Audio/Video inputs.
Optional Line Output: The AV
In2/Out jacks can be used as an input
(factory setting) or they can be switched in the menu to make them an output
(except for S-Video).
When used as an output, the audio output can be set to fixed (the TV's
speakers are active) or variable (the TV's speakers are muted).
Note:
When a video signal is input through the S-Video input of AV-In1 or the
Component Video input, no video signal is output to the AV output terminal. An
audio signal is output to allow you to connect to an external audio system.
