Old school meets new school

Nakamichi's NA250BTR CD receiver combines conventional good looks with today's technology, including Bluetooth® for hands-free calling and wireless audio streaming, a USB port and SD card slot for digital music, and a variable color display that'll add a little flash. You'll also get CD playback and AM/FM radio, if you're into more traditional fare.

Bluetooth means wireless

Bluetooth provides you hands-free calling convenience, plus a wireless connection to the songs stored on your compatible smartphone. A sensitive Bluetooth microphone, built into the receiver's faceplate, picks up your end of the conversation.

Many ways to play your music

On the front panel, you'll find a USB port for plugging in a thumb drive full of music and a mini-jack plug for portable audio players. An SD card slot is tucked behind the detachable faceplate for even more digital music. The included CD player also includes electronic shock protection (ESP) for playing tunes on bumpier roads, while the AM/FM tuner includes the Radio Data System (RDS) enabling you to see station information on the receiver's display.

Round out the experience

Nakamichi includes a variable color display on the NA250BTR so you can customize the look of the radio in your dash. They also provide five hot 5-volt preamp outputs for adding outboard amps for your speakers and subwoofer. The NA250BTR lets you refine your music with a 3-band parametric equalizer that lets you pick the centerpoint for your bass, midrange, and treble controls.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology: The Nakamichi NA250BTR CD receiver is equipped with built-in Bluetooth (2.0+EDR) allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP (Hands Free Profile)
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile)
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Nakamichi NA250BTR.

Hands-Free Communication (w/ Integrated Mic): The Nakamichi NA250BTR allows for wireless communication between the head unit and your Bluetooth-enabled iPhone, Android smartphone, or other Bluetooth compatible mobile phone. You'll be able to answer incoming calls, as well as redial outgoing calls.

    • Answer/End Incoming Call: When there is an incoming call, the current audio source is muted and a ring tone is played via the loudspeakers of the car sound system. The head unit's display will indicate the phone number or display "Phone In" if there is no phone number. You can answer the incoming call from the head unit's front-panel controls. You'll be able to speak into the head unit's integrated mic on the front-panel during your phone conversation, while the other party is heard through your vehicle's speakers.
    • Dialing Outgoing Call: You can easily redial the last number called from the head unit's front-panel controls. All other dialing functions (like phone number, phone book, voice, etc) will have to be done from your Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone first and then transferred to the head unit.
Note: you can transfer the voice from your vehicle speakers to your mobile phone during a call for more privacy.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The Nakamichi NA250BTR allows you to wirelessly play back stored music and music apps from your Bluetooth-enabled Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/tablet, or other Bluetooth-enabled devices using a Bluetooth A2DP/AVRCP connection. You can control basic playback functions of your music on your Bluetooth-enabled device from the NA250BTR's front-panel. Playback functions include Play/Pause and Previous/Next Track.

Note: This unit does not display song/artist information from Bluetooth audio devices, instead it will display "BT Audio".
    Multimedia Playback

Disc Player w/ ESP: The Nakamichi NA250BTR CD receiver features a single disc player that will playback CD-Audio and finalized CD-R/CD-RW audio discs. The CD receiver offers ESP (electronic shock protection) to prevent your discs from skipping.

SD Card Slot: The NA250BTR CD receiver features an SD-card slot located behind its detachable front-panel. The SD-card slot supports SD and SDHC memory cards with MP3/WMA music files. The unit's face-plate must be detached to insert or eject an SD/SDHC memory card.

Front-Panel USB Port: The Nakamichi NA250BTR features a front panel USB (type-A) port that is hidden behind a flip-up cover. The USB port enables connection and control of a portable USB mass-storage class (MSC) device; such as select Android smartphones (Froyo/Gingerbread only), portable digital audio players, or USB thumbdrives. The unit supports playback & control of MP3/WMA music files loaded onto a compatible USB MSC device. USB portable devices that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the CD receiver's USB port (max. 0.5A), and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On.

Note: The head unit's USB port does not support the Apple iPod, iPhone, or iPad.

MP3/WMA Playback: The Nakamichi CD receiver supports the following types of MP3 and WMA music files recorded onto CD-R/RW disc or loaded onto a USB mass storage class device.

Playback & Search Functions: You are able to search the music tracks of music folders stored on a disc, SD-card, or USB device. You can also fast forward or rewind through a track, and skip to the next or previous track. In addition, you can activate repeat (file/folder/all) and random (folder/all) playback functions.

Off Insert/Eject + Auto Reload: A disc can be inserted or ejected with the power off. When a disc is inserted with the power off, the unit will automatically power up and begin playback. If the ejected disc is not removed within 10 seconds, the disc is automatically inserted again into the loading slot to protect it from dust.

    Q
The overview document says this has RDS but if you look in the details section, it says it does not. If it doesn't have RDS it should not be advertised as an RDS capable receiver, correct?

It is RDS capable. Google the manual and look at page 8.

As the FM channel name and information about what's playing are displayed, I guess that the radio does support RDS after all.

It does have RDS. Unfortunately there's only one local FM station which I listen to that offers the info, but it does display in a scrolling pattern.

It does NOT! I bought one and ended up returning it for two reasons, the RDS did not work here in the US and the audio quality of the Bluetooth while making calls was terrible. The internal microphone doesn't work well at all. I exchanged it for a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X599. It works great, much better than the Nak. Call quality is amazing and the rest of the features work AS Advertized. Oh, and you'll save yourself 30 bucks.
