Old school meets new school

Nakamichi's NA350iBTR CD receiver combines traditional good looks with today's technology, including Bluetooth® for hands-free calling and wireless audio streaming, a USB port for a thumb drive, iPod®, iPhone®, or select Android™ phones, and an SD card slot for digital music. You'll also get CD playback and AM/FM radio, along with a variable color display that'll add a little flash. The NA350iBTR's simple front-panel controls and wireless remote give you control over all your music.

Bluetooth means wireless

Bluetooth provides you hands-free calling convenience, plus a wireless connection to the songs stored on your compatible smartphone. A sensitive Bluetooth microphone, built into the receiver's faceplate, picks up your end of the conversation.

Many ways to play your music

On the front panel, you'll find a USB port for plugging in a thumb drive or iPod, along with a mini-jack plug for portable audio players. An SD card slot is tucked behind the detachable faceplate for even more digital music. The included CD player also includes electronic shock protection (ESP) for playing tunes on bumpier roads, while the AM/FM tuner includes the Radio Data System (RDS) enabling you to see station information on the receiver's display.

Round out the experience

Nakamichi includes a variable color display on the NA350iBTR so you can customize the look of the radio in your dash. They also provide five hot 5-volt preamp outputs for adding outboard amps for your speakers and subwoofer. The NA350iBTR lets you refine your music with a 3-band parametric equalizer that lets you pick the centerpoint for your bass, midrange, and treble controls.

You'll be able to speak into the head unit's integrated mic on the front-panel during your phone conversation, while the other party is heard through your vehicle's speakers.
    • Dialing Outgoing Call: You can easily redial the last number called from the head unit's front-panel controls. All other dialing functions (like phone number, phone book, voice, etc) will have to be done from your Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone first and then transferred to the head unit.

I believe you can connect 2 phones to the bluetooth, but if your vehicle is noisy (like a Jeep Wrangler), then the hands-free operation is not going to work for you. Using bluetooth for music will still work fine, but not hands-free.

The specs only indicate 4 power wires yellow, blue, red, black. The pictures of this unit show 5 power wires the 5th appears to be blue/white. Is this for remote switching of a power amp?

Yes Blue wire is remote turn on.
    delvin  Mar 04, 2015

There are 2 blue/white wires, one is for a power antenna, the other is for a remote amp turn-on. I used one to turn on a 4 channel amp, and the other for the subwoofer amp. The wires are connected prior to the connector of the radio. The yellow is for the memory and the red is for switched power, as normal.
    lindel  Mar 02, 2015
    A
Yes. If you're not running an amp+ sub as well you just leave it capped off
    alejandro  Mar 02, 2015
    A
Yes. I put mine in a Mercedes with a Bose system. I just taped off that wire and didn't use it. If you add an amp it will switch it.
    john c  Mar 02, 2015

I installed this some time ago but I remember a wire for some sort of remote switching and a wire for power antenna switching. I cannot say it is for a power amp but there is an additional wire there beyond the antenna. BTW, I love the unit. Sounds great, easy to use, and you get away from the usual AlpinePioneerKennwoodSony crowd.

It has a single RCA connector for the subwoofer audio out, on a 6 inch (about) pigtail out the back of the unit. Very nicely capped off for those that won't use it. The radio menu has a setting for subwoofer on or off.
    carl  Jan 21, 2015

According to the manual, there's a subwoofer output on the back. I don't know, I had it installed with the OEM speakers. Manual can be downloaded from the Crutchfield listing.

Christian, I am not sure about the old skool nakamichi, but I think it will be compatible with my Ford Explorer 2003 system. I have not had a chance to work on it yet. Soon I will install it into my Ford Exp. Sorry, I hope that help some. How was your installation? Nick.

I don't run a subwoofer with it so idk. I bought it to replace a oem radio in a mercedes with a Bose system. I needed the high output voltage this unit pushes. 5 volts. I have a problem with signal noise with engine running, esp at lower volume.. I asked crutch field about installing a filter. They told me to not use the factory ground and ground directly to good body ground. I did and still have that problem. I have not had a chance to remove again to return for exchange. At higher volume it sounds excellent. I will return and exchange for same unit.

Hi guys! I just got my Nakamichi NA350iBTR and sound quality is amazing. Especially from bluetooth. I bought Nakamichi to replace week old- brand new-top of the line Alpine CDE-HD149BT which seemed so low quality in every single way - no bass at all. So, I am happy with this radio. However, do any of you have problem with switching sources to iPad/USB? Because mine keeps turning off for some reason when I switch to that USB. Sometimes it works fine, but sometimes it just turns off. Thank you!

Update on my initial USB problem: So, my Nakamichi was resetting (turning off) every time I would plugin my iPhone. I contacted Nakamichi customer support after Crutchfield guys did everything they could by sending new units back and forth. It turns out that iPhone 64GB or 128 GB were NOT SUPPORTED and radio was simply crashing. Nakamichi sent me new firmware and it FIXED IT. I've been using USB past few days and it works perfect. Funny thing is that Bluetooth sounds so good that I almost don't need USB haha. However USB connection gives you ability to browse library and displays ID tags of Artist, Album and Songs. I thought you should guys know about new firmware if anyone else needs it. I absolutely love this head unit! I am a very happy customer! Thank you!

How is the quality and performance of the built-in microphone for using the BT phone connection? How would it compare to an external mic?

I called my husband who was sitting in the vehicle and I was inside the house. There seemed to be a lot of interference from the microphone in the vehicle. At one point I asked, "WHAT is that??" and he said it was the air conditioner. It was loud. If you plan to talk a lot on the phone while driving, it may not be the best unit. If you just think you will talk occasionally, it will be just fine.

The Bluetooth works flawlessly, the mic quality seems as good as an external, I have asked friends while on the phone and they do not notice a large difference. I would guess the car interior would have the biggest effect.

Sorry I haven't used that feature. The unit is in my son's car and he is banned from using the phone while driving. On another subject the radio reception is not very good.

For me the internal mic is fair, but then again my car is not the quietest of cars on the inside due to other modifications and that the car itself is not particularly well sound isolated from the factory. Compared to the other three cars we have-- BMW, Jeep, and Toyota that all have factory Bluetooth.... this is not even close. For me it is for the convenience. I have had people say that it sounds like I am talking into a hollow can... such a shame. But to be able to talk for a minute or two and carry on.... it is fine. Otherwise I always have my Plantronics Voyager Legend headset with me and it works perfectly. Honestly I have yet to find an aftermarket headunit that has great Bluetooth hands free sound. I have had this unit as well as a JVC with the external mic and a friend has had a JVC, Kenwood, and now a Pioneer---- so far the Pioneer is better, but marginally as he also fights background noise problems. I understand manufacturers make it as part of the deal for a selling point, but with the requirement of hands free devices in many states..... it should be better engineered and have a real sound isolating/ noise cancelling mic. To give you an idea I use my iPad mini for recording track sessions.... it sounds perfect and that is with windows the down. I also have used my Windows phone to record.... perfect. I use a dedicated track camera with a special mic that I paid a lot for--- sounds poor. So it comes down to the mic design. So would I recommend this headunit? Yes. If you are going to heavily use it for talking... no. For me it is that I can see the display in the sunlight fairly easily and pretty good with sunglasses on. Sound is great and having the SD card is also great for me as it is simple, but not having rear USB for an iPod is not the best as I hate having wires sticking out from the front.

Do not buy! I bought it for the Bluetooth. Called Nakamichi and Crutchfield and found out there is no option for an external mic. Ended up buying another unit with an external mic and it works perfectly. Still waiting on Crutchfield to send me a RMA and shipping label.

Actually, the built in microphone is not good in my opinion. I need to get an external mic for this unit.

The mic works flawlessly. Sound from blue tooth is exceptional. Every part of this head unit is superb. I have ran Nakamichi products in the past, NEVER disappointed. The price on this piece is phenomenal. I would highly recommend this unit to anyone looking for fabulous sound, user friendly features, and a price that makes this unit a steal.
