Panamax

Our take on the Panamax M4300-PM

Protect your gear and improve its performance

A home theater system requires clean, safe power to operate at its best. The M4300-PM from Panamax protects up to nine components from harmful power spikes and surges, as well as the minor voltage fluctuations that can affect your system's performance. It also features a protected USB charger for your MP3 player, cell phone or other portable electronic device.

improve picture and sound

Eight AC outlets on the back panel are divided into two isolated banks to help prevent cross-interference between your components. One bank handles high-current components, such as your amplifier and subwoofer. Two sets of coaxial inputs and outputs protect your satellite, cable or TV antenna connections. Two pairs of protected phone jacks prevent spikes from coming in through your phone line and Ethernet connection.

convenience light

A digital voltmeter with adjustable brightness lets you monitor the power coming into your system. The M4300-PM also features two hooded convenience lights that shine downward to illuminate the front panels of your stacked components. You can change the intensity of these lights, or turn them off as you prefer.

Features

9 AC Outlets: The Panamax M4300-PM features 1 front-panel "Always On" AC outlet, 4 rear-panel "Switched Linear Filtered" AC outlets, and 4 rear-panel "Switched High Current" AC outlets.

  • High Current Outlets: The unit's High Current Outlets provide power from a low impedance noise filtration circuit that does not limit the current to your equipment. Its output is noise isolated from all of the other outlets.
  • Linear Noise Filtration Outlets: The Linear Noise Filtration Outlets provide a two stage tapped Pi filter circuit for each outlet in bank 2.
  • Gaming Outlet: The M4300-PM features a convenient AC outlet located on the front-panel for connecting your gaming system temporarily.

Level 2 Power Cleaning and Linear Filtration: The unit's Level 2 Power Cleaning and Linear Filtration eliminates common symptoms of contaminated power (including loss of detail, pops, hisses, hums and visual artifacts) and allows your A/V equipment to perform up to its full capability. Linear Filtering Technology (LiFT) evenly eliminates noise across the entire bandwidth, ensuring peak audio and video performance by reducing harmonic distortion and improving the signal-to-noise ratio.

Automatic/Visual Voltage Monitoring Circuitry: Panamax's patent pending AVM circuitry continuously monitors the incoming power as displayed on the unit's digital voltmeter. In case of an undervoltage or an overvoltage, a flashing red lightning bolt will be displayed in the voltmeter, and power to the connected equipment is automatically turned off if either of these conditions is detected. When voltage returns to a safe level, power to the equipment is automatically reconnected.

Cross-Contamination Reduction: The M4300-PM is designed to provide noise isolation between 2 isolated outlet banks including 4 high current outlets so that any noise created by an A/V component can not contaminate the power going to equipment plugged into another outlet bank.

HD Ready Coax Jacks: The unit's coaxial protection circuits achieve optimum signal quality from newly designed connectors that have less than 0.5 dB of attenuation from 0Hz to 2.2GHz. The unit's clamping level of 75V will meet the demands of both cable and satellite voltage while minimizing exposure to damaging spikes and surges.

LAN/Phone Jacks: Protection circuits for 10/100 baseT Ethernet and standard telephone or pay-per-view lines. Phone circuit is auto-resetting. In-coming LAN or phone cords must be plugged into the "Line" jack. Patch cords to the equipment (satellite receiver, digital video recorder, telephone, computer, etc) must be plugged into the "Equip" jacks ( 2 Line in jack, 2 Equip jacks).

USB Charger: The M4300-PM features a front-panel USB type-A port for charging your MP3 player, cell phone, or other small electronic.

Digital Voltmeter: The M4300-PM features a front-panel Digital Voltmeter which monitors the voltage supplying your home theater equipment. If line voltage drops below 90VAC, or if the line voltage exceeds 142VAC, the display will turn off and the "unsafe voltage" indicator will flash indicating and unsafe voltage condition.

Outlet Bank Power LEDs: Each bank of outlets feature a corresponding Blue LED indicator. These LEDs indicate the status of the corresponding rear panel outlets. The LED will be lit when the outlets are turned On. They will flash during the startup and shutdown process.

Front Panel Lights: The M4300-PM is equipped with two switchable convenience lights to view your media and home theater system in the dark.

Circuit Breaker: A circuit breaker is located on the back panel of the M4300-PM. The circuit breaker will trip only if the total current draw exceeds the maximum current rating (15A). This means that collectively, all outlets must draw more than 15 amps before the circuit breaker will trip.

$5,000,000 Lifetime Connected Equipment Warranty: Panamax will replace, pay to replace at fair market value, or pay to repair, up to $5,000,000 of equipment that is damaged by an AC surge while connected to a properly installed Panamax surge protector, if the surge protector shows signs of surge damage or is operating outside of design specifications. For coverage conditions and information on how to make a claim, please see the warranty sheet.

Controls And Indicators

Clean Power-Hard to Say but nice to have organized

Written By Herb, Jackson, MI on Friday, February 03, 2012

I have absolutely no way to verify the real power management benefits of the M4300 unless something bad happens to my power which I hope doesn't. The unit looks to be well made with a quality feel to the controls. I only have audio components hooked in so can't vouch for the video benefits to say a TV picture. Although the little spot lights look cool they serve no use at all unless you are able to position the 4300 right where they can shine on something. But for some users it might be a feature that really appeals if they can use only the soft light they provide to illuminate their system. Maybe if the light dial swiveled! So you could focus the light where you wanted.
Pros:
Allows you to organize your components into one power source with all the plug ins available. And power everything off with one switch. I did see that running a small room heater really dropped the voltage down and now use a separate circuit to run the heater that doesn't affect the music system.
Cons:
If you have plugs with black box integrated you'll find it hard to position them in the rear plugs and won't have as many plugs open as you thought

It's a must own

Written By Justin, Denville, NJ on Wednesday, September 14, 2011

Ratings for surge protectors are difficult, because you never know how they are doing until they fail. I am assuming that the protection is top notch if for no other reason then their warranty. What I can tell you for sure is that it will improve the performance of your gear by giving it clean power. You will notice it most in your picture quality, with the sound from my receiver being a close second. It is well worth the price. Break away from the strip models on the floor; you won't be sorry.

Exceptional!!!

Written By Dave D, Madison, AL on Saturday, June 18, 2011

I ordered this product and it arrived in 2 days with free shipping! It was DOA and I called customer service which was the easiest experieince I have ever encountered with an RMA. They shipped a new product and I received it 2 days later. Thank you Crutchfield for Exceptional Service. This product is by far the easiest piece to add to your Home Theater that ensures your equipment will last a lifetime. I live in an area that experiences allot of lightening storms followed by brownouts and this has already paid for itself. I would definately recommend this to anyone that needs top-of-the-line protection for a budget minded price.

It's Awesome!

Written By Woodroce, Finger Lakes, NY on Wednesday, March 16, 2011

This unit is awesome. How could anyone not like it?

Just the piece of mind it gives makes it well worth the investment, not to
mention the cool lights!

Great Product! I'm a happy customer!

Crutchfield rocks!!! Thank you!

Great Product

Written By Raymond, Metairie LA on Thursday, July 22, 2010

Great product. Works as advertised. Yes, the lights should face UP, not down. But this is a small design flaw on a terrific product. I do not believe advertising or comments that it will not make your system sound or look better, unless you are an ultra-purest in a acoustically perfect room. But this conditioner/surge protector will help to save your system from getting fried in a storm or cooked in a brownout. When spending $$$$ on quality components it behooves you to spend a few hundred on great protection.

Works as Advertised - And That is Saying A Lot

Written By Tim, Texas on Thursday, July 30, 2009

I would put power conditioning in the same category as speakers... the wrong place to compromise when investing in a great home entertainment system. This model lives up to its promises with clean, very stable power output. You can see the difference. Only two minor annoyances (1) as a previous reviewer mentioned it would have been better with a 90 degree plug and (2) the built in lights shine down; in most installations the power conditioner is going to be below most of the equipment and the lights would actual be more useful if they faced upward. All in all a great product.

OUSTANDING!!

Written By Ryan, Virginia Beach, VA on Friday, July 10, 2009

Two days after explaining to my wonderful bride why we need to spend money on this (Panamax 4300), we experienced an outage that fried our remote (charging base station) and cable box. We ended up purchasing this piece of equipment along with a new Harmony One remote. Both are fantastic! The amber lights on the front are very sexy!! It makes our system look awesome (not that you want to spend this much on lights, but it's a nice touch). I spoke with several local salesmen and they recommend this product over the Monster Surge protectors. Apparently the conditioning process and fusing protection in Panamax products beats out Monster. I got the feeling your buying a name with Monster vice a good product. I feel like we are more prepared now for both football season and electrical storms!!!
