Panamax

Our take on the Panamax M8-HT-PRO

The Panamax M8-HT-PRO shields your audio/video system from harmful spikes and surges. It evens out fluctuations in your AC power line that can damage your gear, and filters out radio frequency and electromagnetic noise that can degrade your audio/video system's performance.

The power protector's eight outlets are separated into two isolated filter banks to reduce the possibility of interference between components. One bank of four outlets is for equipment with higher current demands, such as a home theater receiver and powered subwoofer. The other bank lets you safely power the rest of your gear. You also get three sets of protected coaxial input/output jacks for your cable TV and antenna feeds, plus a telephone line input/output. Optional add-on modules like the Panamax MOD-SPKP and MOD-DBSTV let you protect even more components, such as outdoor speakers, control lines, and additional satellite receivers.

The M8-HT-PRO reacts in less than a nanosecond when a power spike comes through the line, breaking the connection to protect your equipment. The power conditioner automatically reconnects when it detects a return to safe power levels.

Features

8 Outlets: The Panamax M8-HT-PRO Power Conditioner features four balanced double "L" filtration circuit AC outlets and four high current AC outlets.

Premium Filtration: The Panamax M8-HT-PRO's Power Cleaning and Linear Filtration eliminates common symptoms of contaminated power (including loss of detail, pops, hisses, hums and visual artifacts) and allow your A/V equipment to perform up to its full capability.

Automatic Voltage Monitoring (AVM): The M8-HT-PRO senses sustained voltages that are high enough to cause damage to your components, and shuts the power down before damage can occur to your equipment.

Cross Contamination Reduction The M8-HT-PRO is designed to provide noise isolation between the two isolated outlet banks so that any noise created by an A/V component in one bank cannot contaminate the power to the equipment that is plugged into the other outlet bank.

12 Volt Trigger: The unit's 12 Volt Trigger port allows source equipment to activate or deactivate outlets 5-8 on the M8-HT-PRO.

Coax Protection: The M8-HT-PRO features three sets of threaded coaxial inputs and outputs to protect equipment from electrical surges that travel over Cable, Satellite, and Antenna lines.

Hi Definition Ready:  The Panamax M8-HT-PRO has been designed to work with your High Definition system. the M8-HT-PRO's coaxial protection circuits achieve optimum signal quality that have the less than 0.5dB of attenuation from 5MHz to 2GHz. The upgraded coaxial protection has been specifically designed to virtually eliminate signal loss. The clamping level 75 V will meet the demands of both cable and satellite voltage while minimizing exposure to damaging spikes and surges.

Telephone/LAN Line Protection: The M8-HT-PRO is equipped with a RJ-45 telephone/LAN jack input and output which protects equipment from electrical surges that travel over Telephone and network lines.

Surge Protection: The M8-HT-PRO features exclusive protect and disconnect circuitry to prevent damage to your equipment in the event of a catastrophic surge such as lightning by completely disconnecting AC power to connected equipment.

Lifetime $5,000,000 Connected Equipment Warranty: Panamax will replace or repair equipment that is damaged by an AC or signal line surge while connected to a properly installed Panamax surge protector (up to $5,000,000).

Mounting: The M8-HT-PRO can be placed on a flat surface or mounted to your wall using the unit's integrated keyhole slot and attached wall bracket.

Very Good Design

Written By John, Mount Clemens, MI on Monday, January 25, 2010

As others have said it is impossible to rate something for which you only have for insurance. With that said the design is very well thought out. All the plugs and in's and out's are placed so you can actually use them. And the surge protector is very compact and that's why I gave it 5 stars.

Panamax M8-HT-PRO

Written By robert, Michigan on Thursday, May 14, 2009

I no longer sweat out summer electrical storms after installing this device. I'd have given it 5 stars, but I did think it was a bit pricey.

Product seems to be well made with that "heavy duty" feeling. It was easy to setup, but the back of my entertainment center does not look as neat with the extra wiring. That isn't the fault of the unit. I'll have to try again in making the extra wiring a bit more organized.

Happy with the purchase.

12 Volt Trigger - Turns on AMPS

Written By brunnquell, Lincoln, CA on Friday, March 13, 2009

Solid, hefty unit. Least expensive way I could find to have my AMPS turn on (and off) automatically when the AV system was powered up or down. Got the 12V trigger to work by using a mini-jack audio stereo interconnect cable - but had to pull the mini-jack out about 1/16 to 1/8 inch where it plugged into the receiver (Integra DTC-9.8) to get the 12V trigger to work. Probably had to do this because the interconnect cable had a stereo and not a mono jack.

Pricey. Great design. But meh.

Written By meskin, Washington, DC on Saturday, November 15, 2008

Seems like a lot of money for a surge protector. I found these on other sites for much much less, but of course, those sites aren't authorized dealers, so the Panamax warranty isn't good with them and your equipment wont be covered.

Design-wise, staggering 4 plugs on one side and 4 on the other is a really great idea. Very much helps with plugging in all those "wall hogs" (you know, like cell phone chargers, dc adapters, and what not). As far as the cable/satellite filtering banks... I really can't tell if they work or not. I'm sure if I had some kind of electronic noise-measuring device I'd see some improvement in the quality of the signal coming through, but to my nekkid eye, I really can't see a difference.

That said, it's really hard to review something like this because it's main job is to protect from surges and/or brownouts. Well, how often do those happen? So I can only rate this product on a few variables: price, design, and noise-filtering. Design is great, but price is high, and noise-filtering doesn't seem to really do anything. So in my book, that's 3 stars. Barely.

If lightning strikes my building 5 times and my equipment survives, I'll come back and give this 5 stars.

Excellent insurance

Written By , Perrysburg, OH on Tuesday, September 23, 2008

I would highly recommend this product to anyone with a satellite receiver, computer or high end audio equipment. It is an excellent piece of insurance for your electronics. I own 2 of them and at one time it was suspected that the one connected to my Dish receiver was defective by a Dish technician. I called Panamax and they said return it and we will send you a brand new one no problem. After receiving the new one we found out that nothing was wrong with the first one after all. Great customer service.

Power line surges and lightning strikes can damage or destroy your precious audio/video gear. The question isn't whether or not to use power protection, but rather which type is best for you.
