Right-Angle AC Plug: The Panamax MD2 Surge Protector features an integrated right-angle 3-prong AC plug which plugs directly into an AC wall outlet.

Noise Filtration Circuit: The Panamax MD2 Surge Protector utilizes a Noise Filtration Circuit (EMI/RFI) to remove noise and provide clean power.

Two Diagnostic Lights: Two Panamax MD2 is equipped with two Diagnostic Lights (LED) - Power On/Protection OK and Line Fault.

I use it for our Sony TV and associated gear, and have had no problems.

Should work just fine with it. I am using this same unit to protect the SVS subwoofer in my theater room.

Q
Is there any type of recessed in-wall outlet box that this would fit in? I purchased this surge protector a couple weeks ago and have been struggling to make it work behind my TV that is an inch off from the wall.

The MD2 is designed to plug into an outlet which is flush to the wall. If you were able to mount the MD2 into a recessed box, you would have difficulty plugging devices into the MD2 as the outlets are on the edge and not the front face. You may have to move your tv out from the wall a little bit. You could almost place the tv against the front of the MD2 as the outlets are on the side. Another possibility is to move your tv a couple of inches left or right if that would provide clearance to play your tv closer to the wall. If you plug your tv into the outlet directly behind the tv, the plug itself will require you space tv away from the wall an inch or more. The thickness of the MD2 might not require you to move the tv that much further out since the outlets on the MD2 are on the side. If you have a duplex outlet on the wall, use the outlet where the MD2 doesn't cover up the other one, so you can still use both wall outlets.

No. But you can buy an ground fault interrupter. It serves the same purpose. It replaces the existing outlet.

Q
Is this really THAT much better than the Belkin SurgeMaster 6 Outlet Wall-Mount Surge Protector rated at 1045 joules, 43dB for noise or the APC P6W 6 Outlets 120V Surge Arrest Power Distribution Unit rated 1080 joules and 40dB?

I use this specifically for my Epson pro 6020 projector. It has been in place for two years and 2 power outages. Can I see an improved picture, hard to say over my monster cable that was previously installed. I use this in all my theater installs.

I have been very happy with it. I have my iMac plugged into it. I have a bunch of the Panamax big distribution boxes on each on my tv/receivers which I am also very happy with. The audio company that installed our surround sound said that Panamax is one of the best on the market.

Q
Will this be good for a home theater subwoofer? To eliminate the hum and interference from microwave and other electronics.

I have had mine feed my receiver and it has been happily noise free. I have to assume it would work as well in a home theater application. Brian

Not sure if it will help with interference. I use mine behind my wall mounted television.

Q
will this protect the "electronics" in modern refrigerators?
jaroslav  Nov 13, 2014

A
I don't see why it wouldn't, as long as your fridge pulls 15A or less. You should probably ask Panamax your question directly, because they're the only ones that will be able to speak definitively about what this is rated for. Also, I'd read the both the manual for your refrigerator and the one for the surge protector carefully before relying on it. Your fridge's manual may say something about being plugged directly into a receptacle, and I don't think this would count (if the event you were challenged during a warranty claim). If you're that worried about surge protection for your fridge, you should probably install a receptacle or a surge breaker for the circuit your fridge is connected to.

It will act as a surge protector for any electronic device. However this item is more or less intended to be used in sensitive electronics such as a/v equipment where interference can diminish your experience.
