Customer Q&A

9 questions already asked

Q
Can this be used to protect my refrigerator?
joseph  May 18, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Joseph, and thank you for your question. This can be used for any electrical device with a current draw of 15 amps or less. Check that home circuit that your refrigerator is on. If its a 15 amp circuit, your good to go.

Q
Can I install this upstream from other outlets to protect all the outlets (like a GFCI), or do I have to install this as the last outlet on the circuit?
cbadz  Jan 19, 2023
1 answer
A
This will not protect any devices not plugged directly into it. It will not protection any other outlets. It does not need to be the last outlet in the circuit.

Q
Is this a ' one n' done ' item ? (most in wall outlet surge units are )
harry  Jun 11, 2021

A
yes it is and it works great as i had to swap my reg outlet to this one to protect my new garage door opener
ward  Jun 11, 2021
A
Yes if it takes a hit and saves your equipment, it needs to be replaced.
adam  Jun 11, 2021
A
Yup. Just install it and you're good to go. One word of caution - the grip strength of the outlet is average, so don't plan to use any heavier audiophile-type cables with it.
marc  Jun 11, 2021
Q
Does this Panamax MIW-SURGE-1G have a minimum distance it has to be installed AWAY from the circuit breaker and panel? So other brands require 30 foot distance aware from CB?
jay  Mar 19, 2021
1 answer
A
We have not received any answers from other customers on your question. I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They should be able to help answer your question.

Q
Any constraints precluding installing two of these in a two gang box?
mark  Dec 10, 2020
1 answer
A
Hi Mark, it would likely be a tight fit since there is more to these than a typical single gang outlet as you can see in the image. I've seen "plus" size 2 gang boxes in the local electrical supply to allow for more room so that may be the best fit.

Q
Can this be installed and used on an outdoor electric socket? Is it good for outdoor use?
michael  Aug 21, 2017

A
I believe you can use this outside as long as there is no direct water contact Plus he's a protective cover
parker  Aug 22, 2017
A
Hi Michael, I'm unaware of any temperature limits such as extremely hot or cold climates. My only advice on outdoor use would be to enclose the surge protector in an outdoor junction box for protection from the elements. Examples of enclosures would be 1) Taymac MM510C Weatherproof Single Outlet Cover Outdoor Receptacle Protector, used when the appliance is plugged in; and 2) Hubble-Bell MX1050S outlet cover which is closed when the appliance is not in use and unplugged. Also make sure the ground wire functions correctly. Polarity and ground testers are inexpensive and found at hardware stores. Hope this helps. Tom
thomas e.  Aug 21, 2017
A
In no way, shape, or form should this be used outdoors or around any water whatsoever. This is a surge protector, NOT a ground fault device.
jim  Aug 21, 2017
A
No I would not use this outdoors. I'd get a ground fault interruptor outlet made for outdoor use.
michael  Aug 21, 2017
A
Outdoor sockets need to be GFCI. This is not a GFCI receptacle. If you wish to use it outdoors, you will need to also change the breaker on that circuit to a GFCI breaker.
adam  Aug 21, 2017
Q
Does this unit need replacing if a power surge occurs?
william  May 28, 2017
1 answer
A
Good question. My guess is that would depend on the size of the surge.
